Church Stretton HF Holiday in the scenic Shropshire Hills
My wife, Naoko Motohiro, and I booked a 4-day break with HF Holidays at Longmynd House from June 24th-28th 2019 in Church Stretton, a town that is surrounded by the Shropshire hills. We were made to feel most welcome right from the start. We had booked for self-guided walks, and we also brought our electric bikes. On our arrival day we walked up Longmynd to the highest point, Pole Bank, which was a walk of 10 miles. On our second day we cycled a loop of 42 miles, around to Clun, and on to Stokesay – to see the castles. On our third day we walked almost 13 miles, taking in 3 hills including Caer Caradoc. On our final day we walked up the hill that could be seen clearly from Longmynd House – Ragleth Hill.
I had never heard about the Shropshire Hills till a few weeks, and now I would recommend any walkers to visit there.
To conclude: the food was delicious; the staff were very friendly & helpful; the guides were excellent; all of the other guests were easy to get on with.

Hill Walking - Caer Caradoc, Shropshire, England.
A walk up a hill when it's very windy.
Caer Caradoc (Welsh - Caer Caradog) is a hill in the English county of Shropshire. It overlooks the town of Church Stretton and the village of All Stretton and offers panoramic views to the north towards The Wrekin, east to Wenlock Edge, and west over the nearby Long Mynd. On a clear day it is possible to see the hills of north-east Wales to the north, the high-rise buildings of Birmingham to the east, Worcester Beacon in the Malvern Hills to the south-east, and Hay Bluff in the Black Mountains, Wales and the peaks of the Brecon Beacons, to the south. Caer Caradoc is hill G/WB-006 in Summits on the Air. This Caer Caradoc is not to be confused with that 1 km to the west of Chapel Lawn village near Bucknell, Shropshire.
Caer Caradoc rises sharply and steeply up out of the narrow valley in which the town of Church Stretton is situated, known as the Stretton Gap. It is the highest point on a high, narrow, northeast–southwest whaleback ridge, sometimes called a hogsback ridge. The Wrekin is a very similarly shaped hill and on the same alignment, some 10 miles (16 km) to the north-east. Caer Caradoc may be fairly easily climbed from Church Stretton town but the ascent/descent is steep; a more gentle climb is from the village of Cardington, which lies two miles (3 km) to the east. A good way of climbing Caer Caradoc is to do a linear walk from along the aforementioned ridge, including the nearby summits of Ragleth Hill and The Lawley to gain the best perspective on each [1]. Otherwise, the ascent of the hill and return is some 7 miles (11 km) from the town.
The hill is volcanic in origin, like the Wrekin etc., formed of narrow ridges of resistant Pre-Cambrian rock, thrust upwards by movements deep down along the Church Stretton fault. This fault runs from Staffordshire to South Wales and can be seen on OS maps as a line of springs on this hill.
Caer Caradoc cave, near the summit
The summit is crowned by an Ancient British Iron Age or late Bronze Age hill fort. It is this which the hill is named after - Caer Caradog in Welsh meaning Caradog's fort. Local legend has it that this was the site of the last stand of Caractacus against the Roman legions during the Roman conquest of Britain, and that after the battle he hid in the cave near its summit. Others say his last stand was in the locality but that this was one of his fortresses.

THE LONG MYND Gogbatch and Plush Hill
Gogbatch and Plush Hill are part of The Long Mynd, Shropshire. Whilst other parts of The Long Mynd may be busy during the height of Summer, the nearby Gogbatch and Plush Hill are likely to be very quiet
They both lie just west of All Stretton and are easily accessed by road - you don't even need to get out of the car, although that would be a little pointless. Most people never venture this far simply because they either do not know about it, or don't see anything obvious to head for as they pass by on the road down below
You would need to look out for signs heading to Jinlye (for Plush Hill), or Inwood (for Gogbatch). The road to either quite naturally leads to the other
Caer Caradoc dominates the view east out of Gogbatch. Up on Plush Hill you can also easily pick out The Wrekin; and continuing clockwise, The Lawley, Caer Caradoc, Hazler Hill and Ragleth Hill (with Church Stretton below), finally looking down into neighbouring The Batch (south-westerly)
Parking is easy, and with no charges

Long Mynd Wild Camp (Vlog 3)
A short Vlog I put together of our one night wild camp at the Long Mynd in Shropshire. A beautiful place with stunning scenery.
We usually camp in woodland, so this type of terrain was new to us. It was knackering getting up those hills! We also tried out a lot of new gear and this was certainly my most successful bug out bag so far.
We will certainly return here and I highly recommend a visit :)

Earl's Hill - Shropshire Hill Walks 76/127 Highest Shropshire Hills AONB
A popular hill, with a deceptively steep wooded end, and an equally steep grassy end. There are cliffs frequented by climbers on one side, and a woodland walk on the other. Two hills, 3 potential names, so much to offer... what are you waiting for?

Shropshire Hills - Off the BeatenTrack
This ride is from Acton Scott heading north past Ragleth Hill towards Hazler Hill (nr Church Stretton, Shropshire, England)
I recorded the vid on the very small 'Veho VCC-003 Muvi Micro DV Camcorder', which was clipped to my chest.
The bike being ridden was a Sym Symba moped. It does seem I am riding a 'bucking bronco'; however, having tried looking at stabilising the film in YouTube's edit section, I found the image would be stabilised in an excellent way, yet the chrome headlight would constantly be changing shape in a manner which would be even less acceptable
