Raiganj Wildlife Sanctuary (Bengali: রায়গঞ্জ বন্যপ্রাণী অভয়ারণ্য Raegônj Bonnoprani Ôbhôearonno) (also popularly known as Kulik Bird Sanctuary) is situated near Raiganj in Uttar Dinajpur district in the Indian state of West Bengal. The bird sanctuary is home to 164 species of birds, and some 70,000 to 80,000 migratory birds visit the sanctuary every year.



Location
It is located 4 km (2.5 mi) north from the centre of Raiganj town, the district headquarters. National Highway 12 runs beside the sanctuary. Raiganj is 425 km (264 mi) from Kolkata and 181 km (112 mi) from Siliguri.

Climate
Temperature (degrees Celsius): summer - max. 39, min. 21; winter - max. 23, min. 6. Rainfall: 1,550 mm (July to September).

History
The development of the area began in 1970, as part of the social forestry programme of the Government of West Bengal. The department planted tree species like kadam, jarul, sisoo (Dalbergia sisoo) and eucalyptus which were classified as tropical dry deciduous forest. With the Asian openbill and other species of migratory birds flocking to the artificial forest during the hatching season, it was officially designated as the Raiganj Wildlife Sanctuary in the year 1985. It is popularly known as Kulik Bird Sanctuary because the river Kulik flows beside the sanctuary.

Chintamoni Kar Bird Sanctuary (CKBS) (Narendrapur, 24Pgs (South), West Bengal, India) situated at south Kolkata and near Narendrapur Ramkrishna Mission. This is also known as Kayal-r Bagan. This garden is famous for availability of wide variety of birds, butterflies, ferns and orchids.
This is an abhay aranya, or sanctuary, originally given the status in 1982. The government of West Bengal took the initiative to make it open to the public and acquired it from private owners in October 2005. The area was notified as Narendrapur Wildlife Sanctuary vide G O No.3019-FOR dated 8 September 2004. It was later renamed as Chintamani Kar Bird Sanctuary vide G.O No.4300-FOR/FR/O/L/6C-3/04 dated 21 October 2005. This was an honour to celebrated sculptor Chintamoni Kar, who had for many years fought relentlessly to gain the status kayaler bagan for the sanctuary.
The nearest popular place, Narendrapur, is 15 km from Sealdah on the Sealdah – Sonarpur section and is part of the Kolkata Suburban Railway system. It is connected by road to Garia and the EM Bypass. It is 20 km from howrah railway station.

Route 1: From Howrah Station Need to take Garia(S-5,S-6,AS-5,AC6) / Narendrapur Bound Buses. Those will take Garia Bound Buses,they need to take Auto For location Narendrapur Rathtala . From The stop They need to Take 300m walk, & they Will Reach The Destination.

Route 2: From Howrah Station can take the Jadavpur 8B Bound buses (E-1) , From 8B they Need ta take the Garia More bound Auto. From Garia More need to take Auto For location Narendrapur Rathtala . From The stop They need to Take 300m walk, & they Will Reach The Destination.
VISITING HOURS : 6.00 A.M to 5.00 P.M ( Generally )



FEES: As applicable & notified from time to time. *Rs. 50 per head ( According to visit @13.02.14)

রায়গঞ্জ বন্যপ্রাণী অভয়ারণ্য (কুলিক পাখিরালয় নামেও পরিচিত) উত্তর দিনাজপুর জেলার রায়গঞ্জের কাছে অবস্থিত। এখানে প্রায় ১৬৪ প্রজাতির পাখি রয়েছে। প্রতি বছর ৭০ হাজার থেকে ৮০ হাজার পরিযায়ী পাখি এখানে আসে।
এই অরণ্যের ভৌগোলিক অবস্থান রায়গঞ্জ শহর থেকে ৪ কিলোমিটার উত্তরে, ৩৪ নম্বর জাতীয় সড়কের উপর। রায়গঞ্জ কলকাতা থেকে ৪২৫ কিলোমিটার দূরে এবং শিলিগুড়ি শহর থেকে ১৮১ কিলোমিটার দূরে অবস্থিত। এখানে গ্রীষ্মের তাপমাত্রা ২১ থেকে ৩৮ ডিগ্রি সেলসিয়াস এবং শীতকালের তাপমাত্রা ৬ থেকে ২৩ ডিগ্রি সেলসিয়াসের মধ্যে থাকে।
