NM Rail Runner Express and Santa Fe Southern Railway in Santa Fe, NM
A few trains in Santa Fe, New Mexico in July 2010. First are a couple shots of New Mexico's commuter train, the Rail Runner, arriving and departing from Santa Fe. The Rail Runner has to have one of the best, most interesting paint schemes out there today in my opinion. It runs from Santa Fe, through Albuquerque, to Belen. Following are some clips of the Santa Fe Southern Railways excursion train which runs south from town on the old spur to Lamy.
NM Rail Runner in El Paso
EL PASO - On Friday, May 8, 2009 from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., the New Mexico Rail Runner Express will host a demonstration of one of their commuter trains at 805 S. Santa Fe St. in El Paso. El Paso city, county and state representatives will host a press conference at 2:30 p.m. The office of Senator Eliot Shapleigh has worked to bring a demonstration of the car to El Paso
The New Mexico Rail Runner Express is a commuter rail line serving central New Mexico and administered by the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT). In 2003, New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson made creation of the line a priority for his administration. The rail line currently runs between Belen and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The first 50 miles of the Rail Runner were created for $2.5 million per mile ? the lowest cost per mile for a commuter rail line ? by using existing Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) track.
Since beginning operation in July of 2006, the Rail Runner has had nearly two-million riders, covering 52 million passenger miles.
Within four years, Governor Bill Richardson put 100 miles of commuter rail in New Mexico. With the movement of rail west of the Juarez Mountains, El Paso-Juarez can be a dynamic international commuter line. Thousands can then move safer and faster from Juarez to Downtown and UTEP, to better bind our bi-national community, Senator Shapleigh said.
Last month, the El Paso and Las Cruces city councils met in El Paso to discuss connecting the Rail Runner to El Paso and Las Cruces. According to the New Mexico Department of Transportation, the cost of doing so could be $735 million.
Public viewing of the Rail Runner will begin at 9:30 a.m., concluding with a 2:30 p.m. press conference from the following confirmed El Paso city, county and state representatives:
· El Paso Mayor John Cook
· The Office of Senator Eliot Shapleigh - Communications Director Daniel Collins
· El Paso City Representative, District 2 Susie Byrd
· El Paso City Representative, District 7 Steve Ortega
· El Paso County Commissioner, Precinct 1 Anna Perez
· El Paso County Commissioner, Precinct 2 Veronica Escobar
Texas Department of Transportation District Engineer Charles Berry will also attend.
What: Demonstration and press conference on the New Mexico Rail Runner Express
When: Friday, May 8, 2009; public viewing begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by a press conference at 2: 30 p.m.

Santa Fe Junction: Business is Picking Up...
Filmed: 11/11/18
Here is the last part of my afternoon over at Santa Fe Junction. This part has the Missouri River Runner from St. Louis to Kansas City (the 311) getting turned around on the wye's here at both the Junction and BN Crossing (just out of view) for it's return trip back to St. Louis as the 316.
Then a sand train appears with an NS Dash 9 leading a UP GEVO. There was also a set of BNSF Geeps idling and then a loaded Union Pacific coal train comes out of Kansas heading east.
Next week I'll start posting the trains I filmed while waiting for UP 1943 leading what became Bush's funeral train. So, it's back to the Coffeyville Sub over by the Leeds Plant next Wednesday. Sunday I'll start an HO scale ops series from a 70s era HO scale layout set o the Joint Line between Denver and Colorado Springs, CO.
Plenty more to come, so stay tuned and see you next time. Thanks for watching!

Expreso del Sur in Sevaruyo - Bolivia
At 06:45 on Tuesday 17th January 2012, the Expreso del Sur stops at Sevaruyo station halfway between Uyuni and Oruro in southern Bolivia. I was on a cycling tour at the time and stayed in the bunkhouse part of the converted station building and woke up to the sound of the train arriving. The video captures the long train pulling away for its final destination of Oruro to the north east.

Santa Fe Junction: Trains & War Planes
Filmed: 11/11/18
This is the first of a three part set from Santa Fe Junction. I'd have preferred to make it all one video, but these trains are big, and slow moving, and take over 10 minutes to pass by, so along with everything else I filmed, it's just better to split it up instead of having a video nearly 45 minutes long.
Start off with a coal train that had a CREX GE leading solo. That train was sitting there about a quarter mile away, for a while. With the single unit, I figured it was actually the DPU and it was waiting for clearance onto Argentine Yard to the west of here. But no, it was actually an eastbounder with the single unit leading.
After that, a pair of light NS units came out of UP's Armourdale Yard most likely heading back to NS property over at their Avondale Yard. Yes, Kansas City as a lot of yards that start with A. Then the unexpected happened. Military jets. A pair od A10 Warthogs flew over. Apparently, according to what Dad said, they were circling the city waiting for the right time to fly over the Chiefs stadium for the game that day.
That's where we end this one, again, a couple more videos from here in the next couple of weeks, and some Operations videos starting this Sunday. So plenty more on the way, thanks for watching and see you next time.

Santa Fe Railyard
Description
Railfanning BNSF's Belen, NM yard
I had just gotten off the New Mexico Rail Runner Express from Santa Fe and had some time to kill so I caught some late afternoon freight action at BNSF's yard. We see some switching duties and a westbound freight depart. That was my dad talking in the back round :).
