contact us : contact@tibettravel.org
Riding a Tibet train to Lhasa has become a rather good choice of travelling to Tibet with the completion of the world's highest railway, the Qinghai-Tibet Railway which is also the only railway to Lhasa at present. Taking a train to Tibet is even the top choice for many foreign tourists to Tibet for a Tibet train tour is really so impressive both because of the breathtaking scenery along the Qinghai-Tibet Railway and the railway itself, the blue sky and white clouds, the grasslands with flocks and herds, snow-covered mountains, source of Yangtze River, Hohxil Natural Reserve, etc. Of course, enjoying the high-quality services on the best train in China is also a wonderful experience of travelling to Tibet by train.

Tibet Qinghai Express Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Tibet Qinghai Express in Tibet.
The Third Millennium marked the inauguration of a unique train, the Tibet Qinghai Express that travels from China to Tibet. A railroad through the Himalayas on the ‘roof of the world’ and the highest railway line on earth that leads through breathtaking landscapes from Peking to Lhasa. The journey lasts about forty eight hours and includes two nights on the train. The journey begins on a road that for much of the time runs close to the railway line and travels across the high mountain passes of the Kulun Mountains and at a height of nearly five thousand metres above sea level is a remote high plateau that lies within an earthquake zone and often encounters severe snow storms. The train winds its way higher and higher from one high plateau to the next up to snow covered mountains and into the “home of the gods“. Along with the Great Wall Of China and the Three Gorges Dam, the Tibet Railroad is one of China’s greatest structures. The trains travel at the highest speeds that are possible on permafrost, a hundred kilometres an hour and sometimes even up to a hundred and twenty! The Tibet Qinghai Express has already turned many dreams into reality and in future years even more passengers will experience this magnificent and unique experience.

A cultural walk through the city of Lhasa with its spectacular Potala Palace, the Jokhang Temple, which is the major religious destination for Tibetan Buddhists and a visit of Serena Monastery , the biggest and most important education place and university for Tibetan Buddhist monks. The video ends with a travel on the worlds highest train, the Tibet Train. This is a 44 hour train ride from Lhasa to Chengdu, with 1150 km above 4000m sea level, 500 km on permafrost ground, passes at 5150m above sea level and a grandious landscape outside of the train window (grass lands, snow mountains of 6 to 7000m, deserts, highest sweat water lake of the world, highly eroded limestone mountains etc.) ; the ride on the Tibet train became the highlight of that travel.

Tibet by train from Shanghai to Lhasa // China
Seven hours in tibet is a road movie recorded when I traveled Tibet by train to Lhasa from Shanghai in 48 hours. A great experience towards Tibet and the Himalayas. Since 2008 and the monk revolution, the Chinese regulation only allowed group of 5 people from the same nationality to travel in Tibet but on the first of April 2013, it suddenly all changed...
After one unsuccessfully attempt, I received my travel permit from the Chinese Authorities and was able to go and see one of the most and untouched land on earth. In less than 10 days, I managed to organize my entire trip to Tibet on my own while, usually it would have taken weeks, I was lucky!

Lhasa Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Lhasa in Tibet.
Now an autonomous region of China,.Tibet is an intriguing and mysterious land of snow high up in the Himalayas that borders Nepal, Bhutan and India. For centuries it was a dream destination for scientists, adventurers and missionaries and, once almost inaccessible, it was a blossoming yet hidden kingdom. Lhasa, the ‘holy city’ and ‘place of the gods’ is the capital of Tibet and also its largest city. The Jokhang Temple was originally built as a shrine for a special Buddha statue. In the seventh century the statue was a valuable wedding gift from the Chinese Emperor to Princess Wen Chen who had it transported to Lhasa. Around seven kilometres west of Lhasa’s city centre is the old summer residence of various former Dalai Lamas. The Norbuling Ka, Garden Of Gems, has been deserted since the end of the 1950’s because in 1959 the last Dalai Lama was forced into exile by the Chinese. A pilgrim trail leads up to Drepung Gonba that was built in 1416 by a scholar of Tsongkhapa who was the founder of the Gelug Order. The Gelug Academy is the earliest of the four main doctrines of Tibetan Buddhism and the followers of this order are also known as Yellow Caps. Lhasa is a a city of gods on the roof of the world and is undoubtedly one of the last mysterious locations on Earth.

It is poor, but not that poor altogether. It does have some gaps with the rest of China, but I feel that with the building of this railway there will be a big improvement and this will help close these gaps.

12. SOUNDBITE (Mandarin) Tashi, Tibetan graduate from university in Beijing, returning to Tibet to find work:
Yesterday was the first time for me to get on a train which is so cheap, and this has saved me money. For students, I think this will be the biggest benefit. And for Tibet as a whole, even more so, there will be lots of benefits. The new railway will certainly bring positive things.

STORYLINE
China's first train from Beijing to Tibet made the final leg of its two-day journey on the world's highest railway, arriving in Lhasa on Monday.
Many passengers spent the day coping with the altitude, breathing piped-in oxygen from tubes as the train passed its highest point, the 5,072-metre (16,640-foot) Tanggula Pass.
Three passengers were sick while others had headaches - both symptoms of altitude sickness.
Before the last leg of the trip to Lhasa, the train stopped in Golmud early on Monday to switch its standard engine for three powerful locomotives required to haul the train at high altitude.
After the train climbed above 4,000 metres (13,000 feet), ballpoint pens and bags of processed food burst due to the low air pressure.
Laptop computers and digital music recorders failed, because moving parts in their disc drives are cushioned by tiny air bags that break at high altitude.
The rail line is a decades-old dream for Chinese officials but work began in earnest only in 2001, after engineers worked out how to stabilise tracks on permafrost.
Aside from being a feat of engineering, the 4.2 (b) billion US dollar railway is part of efforts to develop China's poor west and bind it more closely to the booming east.
Chinese leaders hope greater prosperity will help to still calls by Tibetans and other ethnic groups for autonomy from the Beijing government.
But critics complain that the railway line will bring an influx of Chinese migrants to the isolated Himalayan region, threatening its ecology and diluting its unique Buddhist culture.
