Nearest village is Abergynolwyn (the village pub, the Railway Inn does good food)
The peak you see behind the farm is Bird rock. Cadair Idris can also be seen. There is a river running by the edge of the site with a totally unmonitored swimming spot for the brave.
Castell Y Bere (Castle Bere) is nearby and at Abergynolwyn there is Abergynolwyn railway station is a station on the Talyllyn Railway at to Tywyn (seaside town). Nearest towns are Barmouth & Tywyn.
Curiously there is also Nant Gwernol station which is the terminus for the Tywyn railway and is absolutely lost in the woods.

The Little Trains of Wales
This September Andy and I revisited Snowdonia to add to our experiences of The Little Trains of Wales. Day one saw us heading for Aberystwyth and The Vale of Rheidol Railway. The weather was foul but we were determined to enjoy our trip and indeed we did with a stop over at Devils Bridge before returning to Aberystwyth.
Day two saw us on the Welsh Highland Railway which we rode on last year but wanted to go on a better day as it is very scenic. With the weather set fair we did the return trip to Caernarfon in fine style hauled by a Garratt. I even managed to get to Tan-Y-Bylch to lineside the arrival and departure of the 16.30 from Pothmadog before heading back to our hotel at Llan Ffestiniog.
Day three and we headed off to The Tallyllyn Railway. The weather was changeable but the trip from Tywyn Wharf to Nant Gwernol was accomplished and enjoyed and we saw the Victorian train as well which was a bonus.
A week thoroughly enjoyed and we shall return! I hope you enjoy the video.

Powys Castle ~ A New Era
Most of the great Welsh castles were allowed to decay when the medieval wars ended, but Powys survives as a captivating example of a military stronghold which was preserved and renewed by continual occupation. Its fabric contains architecture of many different periods, beginning with a medieval square keep and stone hall. The most fleeting glimpse of Powys' mellow red gritstone walls tells us that this stately country house is a place rich in history.
At the start of the 19th Century the castle passed into the hands of Clive Family, Robert Clive.
