Magnificent Greater Melbourne Cycling Paths: East Link Trail from Ringwood to Carrum
This is the continuation of East Link Trail Documentation I did earlier in 2016 (see: ) and covers the south eastern segment of this extend trail. Starting in Ringwood & crossing the Maroondah Highway, the trail partly follows the M3 Freeway but also diverts into the the wetlands along the Dandenong Creek. There are numerous over- and underpasses, shorter climbs and descents. For the last 12km the track turns into a gravel path with Carrum Beach marking the end of the trail. It does not seem to be a popular / busy trail and although the extended stretches along the freeway can be a little dull, the diversions into the wetlands make the trail worth a visit. Note: the last stretch south of Dandenong can be a bit smelly as the trail passes the sewer fields, especially if easterly/southeasterly winds are prevailing.
Cycling Melbourne Bike Paths with the Coach (including detours!)
In this video, I will share a recovery session bike ride I did with my cycling coach, David Sturt, on Melbourne bike paths and trails.
Melbourne bike path and trail route here:
I cycled for just over 70 kms without hardly touching a road on a busy Melbourne morning. We started our ride in Bayside, went out to Dandenong, up to Wheelers Hill and then cut back around to finish our ride at Gauge Cafe in Ormond. The ride on Melbourne's bike paths and trails was side by side with David Sturt from The Hurt Box training group ( and included a little bit of bike skills training, as David discusses in this video.
Something a little bit different on this cycling YouTube channel. I hope you enjoy and let me know what you think in the comment section below.
Cycling Melbourne: Crisscrossing the Hoddle Grid | July 2018
MELBOURNE is often touted as the bicycling capital of Australia, so you may be surprised to see how little bicycle infrastructure there actually is in the City's central business district. Join me as I cycle along every main street. Witness terrifying lane-filtering, endless trams, and hook turns, hook turns, hook turns!

Ringwood to Box Hill Rail Trail
Riding the 10 Km Ringwood to Box Hill rail trail from Ringwood station to Station Street, Box Hill. Sunday July 9th, 2017.
GoPro video sped up between 4X and 9X for playing time of about 5 1/2 minutes. Actual riding time 40 minutes... over a few hills and into a head wind; much easier on the return journey.
Most of the track is complete and of high quality. At the Ringwood end, the Albert Street to Eastlink Trail section is yet to be done, which will avoid riding on the road around Albert, New and part of Molan Streets. At Box Hill, the section from Middleborough Road to the concrete section near Bank Street is currently gravel.
The new Cochrane Street overpass and Blackburn Road underpass are wonderful. Overall, a smooth, pleasant ride.
20191129 Ride Along the Lilydale to Warburton Rail Trail
The Warburton railway line was opened in 1901 to ferry farm produce from the Yarra Valley to Melbourne. Timber was also a major commodity being transported on the line after many tramways through the yarra Valley forests were linked with the line at Warburton and Yarra Junction. The line closed in 1965 and the track removed in 1969. Rails are still be visible at some of the level crossings.
Our ride started at Warburton and took us 26k to the Carriage Cafe at Seville then the same back to the Warburton Motel..
Melbourne Bike Trails in 4K: East Link Trail, Koonung Creek Trail and Yarra Boulevard
The video starts in Ringwood. A right turn from Maroondah Highway takes me to the western section of the M3-East Link trail. After a short segment along Mullum Mullum creek the trail climbs to join the M3 Highway. After a few km the trail changes it's name to Koonung Creek trail and continues to head in a westerly direction, eventually joining the Main Yarra Trail at Burke Road. After a few km's I leave the MYT to climb the westernmost part of the Yarra Boulevard. After a few climbing and downhill section the ride comes to an end at Abbotsford/Victoria Gardens.

Magnificent Melbourne Bike trails - Maribyrnong River Trail : Keilor Plains to Williamstown- 40km
The video starts west of the Maribyrnong trail, follows the river to some point past Footscray road, then turning south towards Williamstown. There is one detour due to confusion. Speed increases towards the last third of the video as I could see a storm approaching from the south west and I wanted to arrive in Williamstown before the arrival of the rather pronounced shelf cloud...
Magnificent Melbourne's Cycling Gems 2018: The Anniversary Trail
Starting on Heidelberg road my route turns South on Chandler Highway until I reach the beginning of the Anniversary Trail. The trail cuts through the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne, like Kew, Burwood and Alamein. The track then merges with Gardiner's Creek trail, which I follow until I reach the Main Yarra trail. Heading west I turn South on St. Kilda road and then East on Commercial Road to Prahran to do my most-needed shopping for the day.
