Rainbow Mountain Loop Trail, Madison, Alabama
The Rainbow Mountain Loop Trail is about a 2 mile moderately trafficked hiking trail located on a small mountain inside the city limits of Madison, Alabama.
The fever of an Alabama summer broke on this morning and it was cool enough for a short hike. I hiked this one solo, but wasn't alone on this trail as many others in the community had the same idea. This trail features a lot of amazing limestone rock formations including two balancing rocks. Hiking it the way I did, in a clockwise loop, there is about 400 ft of altitude lost and then gained right back again, but it is a beautiful walk in the woods. There is no reliable water along this trail, so make sure to bring plenty along.

Hiking McKay Hollow Trail, Monte Sano State Park, Alabama
The McKay Hollow Trail is a 4 mile out and back trail located in Monte Sano State Park, near Huntsville, Alabama (we combined McKay Hollow with the South Plateau Loop Trail on this day to make a 4 mile loop hike instead).
We had a beautiful day with the temperatures not too hot for summer in Alabama and the humidity relatively low for this time of year. This trail features a small waterfall (only a trickle on this day due to dry weather) and a steep descent into a deep and refreshingly cool valley; or hollow as they say around here. During the summer season, the views are few and filtered, but the forest is beautiful and green. There is no reliable water along this trail, so make sure to bring plenty along.

EXPLORING LADY ANN LAKE IN MADISON ALABAMA | I SEE THREE SNAKES!!!
Lady Ann Lake, the centerpiece of our community. 120 acres on which residents can fish, boat, feed the ducks, spot some wildlife or just sit along the shore or in the gazebo and relax. Picnic tables dot the shore, a perfect place for families to gather and share a meal. A boat ramp on the southwest corner of the lake provides a convenient place to launch your paddleboat, canoe or kayak.
I go to check out the hidden secrets of space city amusement park but enjoy the beautiful lake that is Lady Ann Lake!

Rainbow Falls, North Carolina, Nantahala National Forest -- DJI Drone Footage
This was an awesome shorter hike (4.2 miles) with great views, plenty of shade, nice pit stops on the Horse Pasture River and a crazy powerful waterfall! The Falls themselves are amazing and some that I will visited again! It can be pretty slippery to get down below the falls, so exercise caution and use proper footwear.
I must also say that there is a lot of confusing information on the internet about this and Turtleback Falls. Both are very close together and I see them and pictures exchange a ton. I believe this to be Rainbow and Turtleback is one you can slide down.

An oasis in an urban environment in the northern part of Madison county is the Land Trust's Harvest Square Preserve.
