Yosemite Lakes, Groveland, CA, Thousand Trails
Yosemite Lakes is a Thousand Trails park about 5 miles from the entrance of Yosemite National Park. It is quiet and peaceful. The park was damaged by flood waters recently, as were many other properties in the area. While they are still working to repair some of the damage (as of October 2017), they are also working on several improvements, such as a new tower to bring Wi-Fi throughout the park, upgrading many of the 30 amp sites to 50 amp, and introducing trail rides by horseback.

046-5/1995 Iron Door Saloon, Groveland CA
Special Presentation of Good Old Days RV Travels with Ma & Pa, featuring video travels of the 70, 80's & 90's and how it was back then in days gone by. This video was taken 5/1995 of Groveland CA. The Historic Iron Door Saloon is the oldest continuously operating saloon in California. Located near Yosemite National Park, it was built in the California Gold Country sometime before 1852. It was first called the Granite Store, perhaps because the front and back walls are made of solid granite blocks. The sidewalls are made of shist rock and mortar and the roof consists of three feet of sod, covered by tin.

Jumping off Big Ben at Rainbow Pools

Jeanette D.'s Review on The Dyrt:
▶︎ Good Place for Kids
With a pool, petting zoo, a corral where they have a fire and s'mores followed by a movie, this is a great place to camp with the kids.
The showers are free and usually clean although on Saturday evening the campground was full and the bathrooms were dirty and out of TP.
There are tent sites, RV sites and cabins so something for everyone.
There were A LOT of stray cats on the property which kind of drove our dog crazy. But at least the campground is pet friendly.
If you plan to go into Yosemite NP, it's a long drive so plan accordingly. Our family really enjoys Rainbow Pools and Yosemite Pine's proximity to Rainbow Pools is part of why we stay here. The kids can jump and swim there and that's all they really want to do anyway so being close to that is key for us. So many of the places in the park where we used to get in the water do not allow swimming anymore.

Carlon Falls Swimming Hole
Off the beaten path from the Yosemite National Park summer crowds is Carlon Falls and natural swimming pool.
Mellow Wanderer discovered this refreshing resort like setting after an hour long hike off Evergreen Rd. just outside Yosemite's Big Oak Flat entrance.
The hike is easy by Yosemite standards but not for those who lead a couch potato lifestyle. You have to be in reasonably good shape to ascend a rather steep portion of the trail near the falls.
When you arrive, you'll marvel at the scenic beauty, and the emerald green pool of mountain water just begging you to dive in. MW did. Wow! What a rush of bone chilling cold!
Not quite a brain freeze from sucking down a Slurpee, but close. You'll thrust your body skyward in delirious joy and then quickly swim back to shore and a warm towel.
An outing at Carlon Falls will take most of the day, and the best part is it's free. Technically, it's outside Yosemite and part of the Stanislaus National Forest. Personally, you'll likely remember this as the highlight of your Yosemite visit.
