India - Orchha - Raja Mahal
Tour Magnificent Orchha, India: Jahangiri (Jahangir) and Raja Mahal Palaces
The small village of Orchha (which means Hidden Place) is entered by a gate crowned with a red Ganesh, Elephant God. Once one of the largest and most powerful kingdoms in Central India, Orchha is filled with remaining palaces and temples.
Forty Thousand people was lived inside the wall area of Jahangiri Mahal, a large sandstone palace surrounded by a algae filled moat, and a wall around the palace; over 3 kilometers/1.6 miles long. Very impressive but it is the Raj Mahal filled with frescoes that is incredible. Ceiling and other chambers were delicately painted; some with scenes from Ramayana, others showing daily life and court activities.
Orchha Palace Complex & Raj Mahal - Frank & Jen Travel India 15
Frank's magical afternoon walk continues outside Jahangir Mahal amongst deserted ruins. The camel stables rooftop offered a spectacular 360 degree view of the countryside, and the eerie royal garden was made all the more surreal by a live prayer from a mystery source. We wrap up the day at Raj Mahal, where monkeys roam (and engage in crazy animal sex, crazily short that is) outside, and beautiful wall paintings are rumored to be inside.
Taking crystal clear pictures under the light of a full moon, having walked in the steps of history for hours on end, with no crowds and only serenity, I realize that I just had one of the best afternoons of my life.

Orchha Jahangir Mahal Palace - Frank & Jen Travel India 14
Built in the 17th century by Orchha ruler Vir Singh Deo in honour of Mughal emperor Jahangir, the Jahangir Mahal is a massive castle of architectural beauty. Unfortunately Jen was down with the Delhi Belly, so Frank checked out the palace complex himself.
From high up in Jahangir Mahal, one could see many of Orchha's ancient landmarks. The camera was put into overdrive taking stupendous HDR panoramas of the countryside, and there were few tourists to obstruct the view. If there was one tourist destination in India that could be considered serene, Orchha must be it. Stay tuned for more palaces and temples of Orchha!

Orchha Madhya Pradesh state, India:
Orchha (or Urchha) is a town in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh state, India. The town was established by Rudra Pratap Singh some time after 1501, as the seat of an eponymous former princely state of central India, in the Bundelkhand region. Orchha lies on the Betwa River, 80 km from Tikamgarh & 15 km from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh.
On a seasonal island on the bank of the Betwa River, which has been surrounded by a battlement wall, stands a huge palace-fort. The fort consists of several connected buildings erected at different times, the most noteworthy of which is the Raja Mahal.
The Ram Raja Temple is built on a square base and has an almost entirely plain exterior, relieved by projecting windows and a line of delicate domes along the summit. The Jahangir Mahal is built on a rectangular base and is relieved by a circular tower at each corner surmounted by a dome, while two lines of graceful balconies supported on brackets mark the central storeys. The roof is crowned by eight large fluted domes, with smaller domes between them, connected by an ornamental balustrade. The Jahangir Mahal is considered to be a singularly beautiful specimen of Mughal architecture. A point worth mentioning here is that the mother for Jahangir was also a Rajput, Jodha. It is with this in mind that the Rajput king of Orchha had built the Jahangir Mahal. Chaturbhuj Temple is an old temple from the 9th century. The Uth Khana (Camel Shelter) where the King's camels were stationed is right next to the fort and is a must-see. Tourists can also climb on the roof of the Uth Khana and get a fantastic view of Orchha town. The ruins behind the fort complex are an even greater sight. It makes a tourist travel back in time and is an integral part of a visit to Orchha. It houses the residences of various military officers, ministers (housing, roads), gunpowder factory, etc. Although most are in absolute ruins, a silent walk through the ruins can give one goosebumps.
Numerous cenotaphs or chhatris dot the vicinity of the fort and the Betwa river. Elsewhere about the town there is an unusual variety of temples and tombs, including the Chaturbhuj temple, which is built on a vast platform of stone. The more unguarded and neglected of these buildings are popular hangouts for tropical bees, wasps, and other such excitable stinging creatures.
Orchha Railway station is Jhansi-Manikpur section of the North Central Railways. 15 km from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh, Orchha also lies close to another popular tourist destination, Khajuraho.
Tourists who wish to visit Orchha from Khajuraho can catch the morning express which leaves at around 8 or 9 AM. Alternatively, they could also avail the afternoon express which leaves at around 12 or 1 PM. The train journey from Khajuraho is 5 hours and they will ideally have to get off at Jhansi and grab an autorickshaw or Tuk Tuk for Orchha (costs not more than INR 10-15). However, if the train halts at Orchha, they can also get off at the Orchha station and grab an autorickshaw to the temple complex.Wikipedia

4K ???????? Madhya Pradesh - Orchha Fort Complex - India walking tour
This tour - Orchha fort complex , Madhya Pradesh
The Orchha Fort complex, which houses a large number of ancient monuments consisting of the fort, palaces, temple, and other edifices, is located in the Orchha town in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. The fort and other structures within it were built by the Bundela Rajputs starting from the early 16th century by King Rudra Pratap Singh of the Orchha State and others who followed him.
The fort complex, which is accessed from an arched causeway, leads to a large gateway. This is followed by a large quadrangular open yard surrounded by palaces. These are Raja Mahal or Raja Mandir, Sheesh Mahal, Jahangir Mahal, a temple, gardens and pavilions. The battlements of the fort have ornamentation. Notable architectural features in the fort complex are projected balconies, open flat areas and decorated latticed windows.
The fort was built following the founding of the Orchha State in 1501 AD by Rudra Pratap Singh (r. 1501–1531), a Bundela Rajput. The palaces and temples within the fort complex were built over a period of time by successive Maharajas of the Orchha State. Of these, the Raja Mandir or Raja Mahal was built by Madhukar Shah who ruled from 1554 to 1591. Jahangir Mahal and Sawan Bhadon Mahal were built during the reign of Vir Singh Deo (r. 1605–1627). The features of pepper pots and domes seen in the fort complex are believed to have inspired Lutyens in the architecture of the structures which he built in New Delhi.
Raja Mahal Orchha (Part 2) - The Great Palace
Raja Mahal in Orchha in Madhya Pradesh is a true example of the magnificent Mughal architecture. The great ruler Raja Rudra Pratap initiated the construction of this majestic palace. However he couldn't complete the construction during his life tenure. He died in the year 1531 leaving the palace incomplete. After that, his son Bharti Chand took over the construction and he was able to complete the front and the main part of the palace. He also couldn't complete the construction. Some years after his death, an Orchha ruler Madhukar Shah gave the final touch to the palace.
The Palace has two major sections that are worth a look. They are the Durbar-e-Khas and the Diwan-i-Am.
The Durbar Hall or the Durbar-e-Khas is on the first floor of the Mahal. Battlement walls of high altitude surround it. The Durbar Hall is very well bastioned. Right over it, there are a number of musket holes from which the enemies were shot at.
The Diwan-i-Am was actually an assembly hall. In this hall, the king used to have group meetings with his council of ministers. This hall has 3 platforms. The ceiling of this hall is decorated with various paintings that belong to the Mughal as well as the Bundela School of art.

Orchha Main Street, Sheesh Mahal Hotel, Market & Restaurants - Frank & Jen Travel India 18
Jen gives a grand tour of our hotel room at the Sheesh Mahal Hotel while Frank shows a view of the main street from Shri Mahant Hostel. We walk through the crowded Ram Raja Temple market in downtown Orchha, and have a rooftop candle night dinner overlooking the main Orchha street - an atmospheric look at life in a typical Indian town. The Canon 60D DSLR with 50mm F1.8 lens gave pretty good low light performance, and allowed us to shoot with only a single candle as the main light source.
