Shuka Vana ~ Rehabilitation Centre for Birds
His Holiness Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji's deep concern for the preservation of our environment has manifested itself in Avadhoota Datta Peetham, Mysore as Kishkindha Moolika Bonsai Garden, Ashwashala (Horse stables), Goshala (Cow shelters) and Shuka Vana (rehabilitation centre for birds).
Parrots are not just agreeable birds with their chirping sounds and attractive, vivid colors. Parrots have a specific spiritual connection with the nine planets (Navagrahas), the twelve zodiac signs (Rasis related to birth stars), the numerals of the dates in each month, and the seven musical notes Sa, Ri, Ga, Ma, Pa, Da, Ni (Saptaswaras) in Indian classical music.
With divine intuition, Sri Swamiji has identified sets of species of parrots that represent each of the above as its vibrant, living, breathing, visible presiding deity. Seeing these divine parrots and providing them nourishment, shelter, and care enhances good fortune and heightens positive energy. The parrots are related to each of us either by representing our birthdate, zodiac sign, or the planet or musical note that stimulates us.

Hyder Ali and Kingdom of Mysore - Kings of India | History for Kids | Educational Videos by Mocomi
presents: Hyder Ali
The Wodeyar Dynasty, one of the most prominent dynasties of the south, ruled the kingdom of Mysore. Hyder Ali and his son, Tipu Sultan made their mark in this region.
Hyder Ali was born at Budikote around the year 1720. He started off his career as a soldier. He was a petty office in the army and was assistant to the Nizam, who was the Mughal deputy in South India.
When the Nizam was assassinated, a great deal of confusion followed and in the midst of all the chaos, Hyder Ali’s services attracted the attention of Nanjaraja, the minister of the Raja of Mysore.
Hyder Ali received an independent command and over the next 12 years, the minister and the king depended on him and were under his control.
Mysore was left bankrupt under Nanjarana, and it is during this time that Hyder Ali rose in ranks until he replaced the king.

Mysore Palace
The Palace of Mysore (also known as the Amba Vilas Palace) is a palace situated in the city of Mysore in southern India. It is the official residence of the Wodeyars - the erstwhile royal family of Mysore, which ruled the princely state of Mysore for over seven centuries. The palace also houses two durbar halls (ceremonial meeting hall of the royal court).
Mysore is commonly described as the City of Palaces, however, the term Mysore Palace specifically refers to one within the old fort. The Wodeyar kings first built a palace in Mysore in the 14th century, it was demolished and constructed multiple times. The current palace construction was commissioned in 1897, and it was completed in 1912 and expanded later around 1940.
Mysore palace is now one of the most famous tourist attractions in India after Taj Mahal with more than 2.7 million visitors.[1] Although tourists are allowed to visit the palace, they are not allowed to take photographs inside the palace. Price of admission for foreign tourists is 200 INR., and for Indians 40 INR. All visitors must remove their footwear to enter the palace.
The regent of Mysore, Maharani Vani Vilas Sannidhna, commissioned a British architect, Henry Irwin, to build yet another palace in its place.[2] The construction was completed in year 1912. But slowly the beautification of the fort was also taken up and the inhabitants of the fort were slowly shifted out to newer Extension built outside. The present Public Durbar Hall wing was also added much later around 1940.

Sistla Janaki (born 23 April 1938), popularly known as S. Janaki, is an Indian playback singer and occasional music-composer from Andhra Pradesh. She is one of the best-known playback singers in South India and has recorded nearly 48,000 songs [1] in films, albums, TV and Radio including solos, duets and chorus songs in 17 languages including those native to India (mainly in Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Odiya and Bengali) and also in languages such as Japanese, Latin, Arabic and German.[2] Starting in 1957 with the Tamil film Vidhiyin Vilayattu, her career has spanned over six decades.[3]
Janaki, who is fondly called The Nightingale of South India,[4] has won four National Film Awards and 33 different State Film Awards.[5] She is a recipient of an honorary doctorate[6] from the University of Mysore, the Kalaimamani award from Tamil Nadu State Government and Karnataka Rajyotsava award from Government of Karnataka. In 2013, she refused to accept Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award of the Government of India, saying that it had come too late and that South Indian artists were not given their due recognition.[7]
Widely acclaimed as one of the most versatile singers, her association with singer S. P. Balasubrahmanyam and composer Ilaiyaraaja is most talked about. In the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s her duets with P. B. Srinivas, S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, K. J. Yesudas and Rajkumar topped the charts across all the South Indian languages.[8] In October 2016, Janaki announced her retirement from singing for films and stage appearances.[9] However on intense pressure from the film fraternity, she made a comeback for the Tamil film Pannadi in 2018.
