Orchha on bank of River Betwa is a town in Tikamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh state, India. The town was established by Bundela Maharaja Rudra Pratap Singh (1501 AD) who was an offshoot The Chandelas who were builder of Khajuraho. The Ram Raja Temple is a temple in Orchha, Madhya Pradesh, India. In India this is the only temple where Lord Ram is worshiped as a king and that too in a palace. A Guard of Honour is held everyday, police personnel have been designated as Guards at the temple, much in the manner of a king.

Ram’s wedding is enacted each year in mid December. Orchha itself resembles a bedecked bride as the baraat – comprising gorgeously decorated chariots, caparisoned elephants, and horses – wends its way down the narrow streets. Later, the town celebrates the royal nuptials over a banquet (bhandara) hosted by the temple trust.
Ram Raja temple gets very crowded during Ram Naumi celebration, which is the busiest time of the year in Orchha. Once, few tourists literally went back from the highway because there were no rooms to even put their feet on the ground. Also during this time, you can see tribal people (Moniye) wearing and holding peacock feathers in their hands and doing traditional dance performances etc.

ORCHHA- RAM RAJA TEMPLE (अयोध्या के राजा राम का दरबार)
ओरछा का राम राजा मंदिर १७वीं शताब्दी में बना एक हिन्दू मंदिर है जिसका निर्माण तत्कालीन राजा मधुकरशाह ने करवाया था। कहा जाता है की राम राजा मंदिर का सीधा सम्बन्ध अयोध्या से है और यहाँ पर लायी गयी भगवन राम की मूर्तियां अयोध्या से ही राजा की पत्नी गणेशकुँवर द्वारा लायी थीं। ओरछा के बारे में कई कहानियां प्रचलित हैं की यहाँ पर स्थापित मूर्तियां प्रभु श्री राम के वही विग्रह हैं जो वनवास भगवान राम अपनी माता कौशल्या को देकर गए थे। यह जाता है की राजा राम की मूर्तियां मुग़ल शासकों से बचाने के लिए अयोध्या से ओरछा भिजवा दी गयीं थी। ओरछा का वर्तमान का राम राजा मंदिर वास्तविकता में रानी गणेशकुंवर की रसोईघर है जहाँ रानी ने अयोध्या से लौटने के बाद भगवान राम के विग्रह को गलती से स्थापित कर दिया था और भगवान राम के लिए बनाया गया चतुर्भुज मंदिर आज भी खाली पड़ा है।
