Yes, the Banaras of south. Part of the Char Dham pilgrimage.
Located at the very end of the Indian Peninsula separated from mainland India. Road As well As Rail Bridge is there to commute.
Just travelling to the temple will be a fulfilling experience and to actually visit it a much cherished one.
According to Hindu mythology Lord Rama built a built a bridge over here to rescue Sita from Ravana. Till date the shorelines are also very quiet (unlike other shorelines where huge waves takes place) as it was promised to Lord Rama by the sea god to pave the way for building the bridge.
The temple along with the town is considered a holy pilgrimage site for both Shaivites andVaishnavites. Rameswaram is the closest point to reach Sri Lanka and geological evidence suggests that the Adam's Bridge was a former land connection between India and Sri Lanka. Adam's Bridge is a chain of limestone shoals, between Rameswaram and Mannar Island, off the northwestern coast of Sri Lanka. The bridge is 18 miles (30 km) long and separates the Gulf of Mannar (South West) from the Palk Strait (North East).
The name Rama's Bridge or Rama Setu (Sanskrit; setu: bridge) refers to the bridge built by the Vanara (ape men) army of Rama in Hindu mythology, which he used to reach Lanka and rescue his wife Sita from the demon king Ravana.
Rameswaram has an average elevation of 10 metres (32 feet). The island is spread across an area of 61.8 square kilometres and is in the shape of a conch. Rameswaram is significant for many Hindus as a pilgrimage to Varanasi is considered to be incomplete without a pilgrimage to Rameswaram.
The Ramanathaswamy Temple is the most notable historic landmark of the town. Located in the centre of town, Ramanathaswamy Temple is a famous Hindu temple dedicated to the god Shiva. The temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines, where Shiva is worshipped in the form of a Jyotirlinga meaning pillar of light.
There are sixty-four Tīrthas or Theerthams (holy water bodies) in and around Rameswaram. According to the Skanda Purana, twenty-four of them are important. Of the 24, 14 are in the form of tanks and wells within the precincts of the temple.
Pamban Bridge is a cantilever bridge on the Palk Strait that connects Rameswaram to mainland India.
How to reach:
Air: The nearest airport is at Madurai, at a distance of 154-km.
Rail: Rameshwaram is well connected by trains from all the major cities of India.
Road: State transport has a regular bus service available from the railway station to the various places in and around Rameshwaram. For local transportation taxis, auto-rickshaws, cycle-rickshaws and Tongas are available. City bus service is also available in the island.

रामेश्वरम ज्योतिर्लिंग कथा
Ramanathaswamy Temple (இராமநாதஸ்வாமி கோயில் Irāmanātasvāmi Kōyil)[1] is a Hindu temple dedicated to the god Shiva located on Rameswaram island in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is also one of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples. It is one of the 274 Paadal Petra Sthalams, where the three of the most revered Nayanars (Saivite saints), Appar, Sundarar and Tirugnana Sambandar, have glorified the temple with their songs. The temple was expanded during the 12th century by Pandya Dynasty, and its principal shrines sanctum were renovated by Jeyaveera Cinkaiariyan and his successor Gunaveera Cinkaiariyan of the Jaffna kingdom. The temple has the longest corridor among all Hindu temples in India.[2] The temple is located in Rameswaram considered a holy pilgrimage site for Shaivites, Vaishnavites and Smarthas. The presiding deity, the Lingam of Ramanathaswamy (Shiva), is believed to have been established and worshiped by Rama, an avatar of the god Vishnu, to absolve the sins created during the Ramayana war at Sri Lanka.
The temple in its current shape is believed to have been built during the 17th century, while Fergusson believes the small vimana in the west corridor belongs to the 11th or 12th centuries.[7] The temple is said to have been sanctioned for construction by King Kizhavan Sethupathi or Raghunatha Kilavan. The contribution of the Jaffna kings of the Sethupathy dynasty to the temple was considerable.[6] King Jeyaveera Cinkaiariyan (1380 — 1410 CE) shipped stone blocks from Koneswaram temple, Trincomalee to renovate the temple's sanctum sanctorum. Jeyaveera Cinkaiariyan's successor Gunaveera Cinkaiariyan (Pararacacekaran V), a trustee at Rameswaram who also oversaw structural development of this temple and the promotion of Saivite beliefs donated part of his revenue to Koneswaram. Especially to be remembered are the immense sums that were spent during the tenure of Pradani Muthirulappa Pillai towards the restoration of the Pagodas which were falling into ruins and the splendid Chockattan Mantapam or the cloistered precincts of the temple at Rameswaram that he finally completed. The rulers of Sri Lanka also contributed to the temple - Parakrama Bahu (1153-1186 CE) was involved in the construction of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple
The temple priests are Mahastra Brahmins who get Diksha from Sringeri Mutt.[26] A shortage of priests has been reported in recent years as there are only five priests to manage the 13 shrines within the temple.[26] The shortage is more pronounced during the 12-day Maha Shivaratri festival when the festival deities of the temple are taken in procession.[26] The temple comes under the renovation and consecration of the 630 temples planned by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu.[27] Temple authorities had planned to renovate and widen the pathways to the 22 holy theerthams of the temple.[27] The consecration of the temple was planned during 2013.[27] The temple is among those offering free meals under the Free Meals Scheme of the government, which provides meals to devotees of the temple. A pilgrim house is planned by the government to extend the scheme to more pilgrims

Rameshwaram Darshan
Rameshwaram is the part of Char Dham Piligimage & considered to be one of the holiest places in India to Hindus. According to legend, this is the place from where Rama, the seventh avatar of the god Vishnu built a bridge, across the sea to Lanka to rescue his consort Sita from her abductor Ravana. Lord Rama along with Maa Sita and his brother Lakshmana, installed and worshiped the lingam (an iconic symbol of Shiva) here to expiate the sin of Brahmahatya incurred while killing of the Brahmin Ravana. According to another version, as quoted in Adhyarma Ramayana, Rama installed the lingam before the construction of the bridge to Lanka.

Pamban Bridge || Ramanathaswamy Temple, Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu
#PambanBridge is a railway bridge which connects the town of #Rameswaram on Pamban Island to mainland India. Opened on 24 February 1914[1], it was India's first sea bridge, and was the longest sea bridge in India until the opening of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in 2010. The rail bridge is, for the most part, a conventional bridge resting on concrete piers, but has a double-leaf bascule section midway, which can be raised to let ships and barges pass through. Until 1988, the Pamban bridge was the only surface transport that connected Tamil Nadu's island of Rameswaram to the mainland. In Dec-2018, the bascule of this bridge was damaged, which suspended the transportation on the bridge for 3 months. Rail movement was again restored on 27th Feb 2019.
