And the Kolis of Ramagama came to know that at Kusinara the Blessed One had passed away. And they sent a message to the Mallas of Kusinara, saying: The Blessed One was of the warrior caste, and we are too. We are worthy to receive a portion of the relics of the Blessed One. We will erect a stupa over the relics of the Blessed One and hold a festival in their honor.

Ramgram Stupa, the Buddha relic stupa of Nepal
Ramgram Stupa is one of the first eight stupas with Buddha's relic. After Buddha's Mahaparinirvana, the relic was distributed among eight princes. It is believed that eight stupas were built out of them. According to Buddhist literary sources, Emperor Ashoka later opened other seven stupas as he wanted to redistribute those relics into eighty-four thousand stupas. The serpent king guarding the Ramgram stupa kept him off from unearthing the relic. Ashoka was told to make better offering than the Buddha relic Stupa of Ramgram which he couldn't. Ramgram Stupa is the only intact stupa with Buddha relic. The stupa has always been an object of great reverence. The 7 m high stupa is now buried under a heap of Earth and is waiting for further research.

Ramgram Stupa
Ramgram Stupa, Located in Nawalparasi District of Nepal, contains the mortal remains of Gautam Buddha and was constructed 2500 years ago. It is also one of the eight stupas that remained unexcavated by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd Century B.C.
Ramgram is situated just 3 km south of Parasi bazar, district headquarters of Nawalparasi district, 28.6 km east of Bhairahawa and about 40 km east from Lumbini. From Parasi Bazar, one needs to go 3 km south to Ujjaini chowk
Ramgram Stupa remains the great site for archaeological and Pilgrimage importance. There are many stories and myths regarding this place. Recognizing it, the stupa was listed on UNESCO'S Tentative World Heritage Property in 1996.
Ramgrama Stupa area is pretty much under developed. There is a narrow road to get to this stupa. There are no big hotels or any extra facilities around here. The Corruption, I believe is the reason this wonderful and highly important side is unrecognized in both the domestic and international Tourism Arenas.
