Ramkeli Dham-Sree Chaitanya Temple/Sree Chaitanya Charan Mandir/Gour Malda/Malda Tourist Places
Lord Chaitanya Temple is situated in a small village of Ramkeli about 14 Km south from Malda on the way to Gour. Ramkeli is famous for being the temporary home of Lord Sri Chaitanya, the great religious reformer of Bengal, where he had stayed for a few days on his way to Brindaban. The place still features two Kadamba and two Tamal trees, which is believed to be the meditation site of Sri Chaitanya. A temple has been constructed beneath these trees, housing the footprints of Sri Chaitanya on stone. Celebrations are held at the site on every Jaishthya Sankranti( in the month of May-June) to commemorate the arrival of Sri Chaitanya. A week-long fair also starts on this day when devotees from far off places arrive to participate in the various programmes.
The site is located near Ramkeli village. Local bus is available from Malda. Anyone traveling from Malda should avail the bus for Mahadipur and have to leave the bus at Piasbari. Anyone can take easybike/tuktuk from Piasbari or can walk. It will take only 10-15 minutes to reach on foot.

Mango, jute and silk are the most notable products of this district. District headquarters is English Bazar, also known as Malda, which was once the capital of Bengal. The district maintains the traditions of the past in culture and education. Old Malda, the town which lies just east of the confluence of the Mahananda and Kalindi rivers, is part of the English Bazar urban agglomeration. The town rose to prominence as the river port of the old capital of Pandua. During the 18th century it was the seat of prosperous cotton and silk industries. It remains an important distributing centre for rice, jute, and wheat. The area between the historical monument of Jame Masjid (1566) and the landmark of Nimasarai tower across the river Mahananda, constituted a municipality in 1867. Rice, jute, legumes, and oilseed are the chief crops in the surrounding area. Malda is the largest producer of excellent quality of jute in India. Mulberry plantations and mango orchards occupy large areas; mango trade and silk manufacture are the main economic activities. The Independence Day of Malda is 17 August 1947.

Although this single domed structure is known as a mosque, in all probabilities, it is a mausoleum. Built in the year 1450 by Sultan Hussain Shah, it may also have served as a prison. The structure contains some carved stones from Hindu temple and enamelled stone its cornices. As thr structure was infested by bats before its clearance, it is known as Chika Masjid.
The site is located near Gumti Gate. Local bus is available from Malda to Mahadipur. Anyone can take easybike/tuktuk from Mahadipur or can leave the bus at Piasbari. From Piasbari can reach the site via Ramkeli village.

Baisgazi Wall in Malda is located about 25km from the main town. It is one of the key attractions that encircles the kingdom of Gaur. The height of this massive wall is estimated to be 22 Bengali yards thus it is named as Baisgazi wall. This historical wall is believed to have defended the ancient palace region of Gaur from 3 sides. The massive wall is built with exquisite cornices and crevices, which were possibly built in the era Sultan Nasiruddin Mahmud Shah whose reign was traced to be from 1442-1459 AD.
The wall is located near Ramkeli village. Local bus is available from Malda to Mahadipur. Anyone can take easybike/tuktuk from Mahadipur or can leave the bus at Piasbari. From Piasbari can reach the wall via Ramkeli village.

Notes by: Aditi Nath Sarkar
The week-long Fair (Mela) of Ramkeli takes place around the last day of the Bengali lunar month of Jyaistha (usually the height of Summer ) in a small village right outside the still impressive ruined gates and walls of the ancient Bengal capital of Gaur .This is located adjacent to the now bustling town of Malda in northern West Bengal. It is said that the great saint of Gaudiya Vaishnavism, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu , (1486-1534) ,met and converted two of his principle disciples, the brothers Rup and Sanatan Goswami ,who were important courtiers of the Muslim Sultan of Gaur , in Ramkeli. The Fair marks that occasion.
This Fair is a great gathering place for singers of the Bengali Kirtan style of Vaishnavite devotional music.
Malda is the heart of an important mango growing region and June is when the fruit starts being harvested. The Fair has considerable local agricultural and economic importance.
