On cam: Asiatic lions being harassed by locals at Gir
Forest officials have found another scary evidence of rampant illegal lion shows and harassment of ‘Gujarat's Pride’ the Asiatic lion. Video clips found from seven persons, who were arrested from a village of Gir-Somnath district for such illegal activity last month, show how locals harass the lions by throwing bait and relish the feline's desperate attempts to grab it. A video that went viral on Wednesday shows two persons, one of them with a hen in his hand, teasing a lioness standing just a few feet away from him in a farm. These persons are partying in the farm while a village woman is cooking for them.

Lions preying on cattle in villages close to the city is increasing
The frequency of the lions preying on cattle in villages close to the city is increasing. On Saturday night, a lion killed hunting street cow near Indreswar in junagadh city
.
According to sources, the lion killed a black cow in the farm
Citizens never expected that a lion would kill their cattle. They were very scared as they had never seen lions in their surroundings before. However, the lion abandoned its prey and escaped from the spot when people gathered, sources in the village said.
On Sunday too, a lion preyed on some cattle in the area. Forest department officials rushed to the spot and have started monitoring the lion's movement.
Earlier, lions have been spotted in villages of Jasdan, Gondal and Kotda-Sangani, which are all located near by Rajkot.
A few months ago, lions had killed domestic cattle in Bildi, Vinjuvadi and Sanala villages in Gondal taluka and Bhadva village in Kotda-Sangani taluka of Rajkot district. Bhadva is about 25 km away from Rajkot city. These lions had come from Chandgadh area in Amreli.
Earlier, in October 2008 too, a lioness and three cubs were spotted near Gondal. They had killed cows in Panchiyavadar village.
The data analysis of direct and indirect evidence like sightings, prey and pugmarks show that lions' kingdoms spread over 1,100 villages in three districts of Saurashtra region. At present, lions occupy an area over 16,000 square km in Saurashtra spread over three districts - Junagadh, Amreli and Bhavnagar

Gir cow goes global via Brazil. Gujarat is estimated to have only around 3,000 pure breed Gir cows left, according to Satyajit Khachar, scion of the erstwhile princely state of Jasdan and a known breeder of the cow.
Gir is one of the best milkers among indigenous cattle. The breed is also known as “Bhodali”, “Desan”, “Gujarati”, “Kathiawari”, “Sorthi”, and “Surati”. The breeding tract of the breed includes Amreli, Bhavnagar, Junagadh and Rajkot districts of Gujarat and is named after the Gir forest, the geographical area of origin of the breed. Bullocks can drag heavy loads on all kinds of soils, be it sandy, black or rocky. This is a world-renowned breed known for its tolerance to stress conditions. Having faced scarcity for a numbers of years, it has the capacity for yielding more milk with less feeding and is resistant to various tropical diseases.

Sasan gir lions drinking water | Gir forest water points | Windmill in forest | Protection | Jungle
Solutions of Water scarcity in gir forest.
Windmill in the Gir forest...
It is common to hear complaints about water crises during the end of February. However, this time Narmada water has reached to many cities of Gujarat, yet complaints of water conservation from many areas are starting slowly.
As far as water is concerned, human can talk about their complaints by screaming or even on social networks, but what about the animals? ... beginning of March brings the shortage of water for Gir forest as well. Which makes a lot of trouble for lions and other wild animals too.
The water of all 6 rivers flowing in the jungle starts drying up, In such a situation, these animals may have to wander far away for water. For this reason, the forest department has prepared more than 5000 points of water in the Gir and Girnar jungle. The water is filled by the tanker or the bore well, and there are some points in which the water comes through windmill.
Due to water being sewed by wind mill, the possibility of ending the water here is less. Because of this, all the animals around this windmill area have plenty of facilities.
