Hiking Rampestreken viewpoint in Åndalsnes (Norway)
This hiking season 2017 we started with a spectacular hike to one of the scenic viewpoints in Fjord Norway – Rampestreken, 580 meters above sea level. Rampestreken is the part of the one of Norway’s most beautiful summit walks - Romsdalseggen that offers spectacular views of the Romsdalsfjellene mountains.
It’s classified as a moderate hike, however, some parts, especially the last part, is rather steep – but manageable. The hike starts in the centre of the small town Åndalsnes. The path is well marked with signposts and red marks painted on trees and rocks. Moreover, there are signs telling you the elevation every 100 height-meters from the goal. Most of the path goes through the forest consisting of woodland tracks and stone steps made by Nepalese Sherpas in the steepest parts.
We went there with our two kids (1 and 8 years old) on Easter holidays at the end of April. As this hike is popular with locals and tourists alike, we decided to start our climb very early in the morning to be sure, that we would enjoy these amazing views peacefully by ourselves. The weather was luckily perfect so here are some stunning pictures from our hike!

It's also possible to climb some more to the top of the mountain.

Trollstigen
Trollstigen viewing platformTrollstigen (English: The Troll Ladder) is a mountain road in Rauma, Norway, part of Norwegian national road 63 connecting Åndalsnes in Rauma and Valldal in Norddal. It is a popular tourist attraction due to its steep incline of 9 % and eleven hairpin bends up a steep mountain side. Trollstigen was opened on July 31, 1936, by King Haakon VII after a construction time of 8 years. The road up is narrow and with few possibilities where cars can meet, although it has been widened in recent years. On the top there is big parking place where you can walk for about ten minutes to get onto a viewing balcony. There you will enjoy a great view over the road with its bends and the waterfall. Stigfossen is a beautiful waterfall which falls 320 metres down the mountain side. Trollstigen is closed during the fall and winter months. A normal opening season stretches from the mid of May to October, but may sometimes be shorter or longer due to changes in the weather conditions. In the summer of 2005 the road was repaired and about 16 million NOK was spent on protection against rockfall, making the road a lot safer to drive on.Fra Wikipedia, den frie encyklopedi

Trollstigen.
Ved stor vannføring i fossen står vannspruten inn over broen. På grunn av hyppige steinras og etterfølgende ødeleggelser på kjørebanen, ble en strekning nederst i Trollstigen lagt om i 2005. Dette omfattet tredje og fjerde sving nedenfra (se bilder). Samtidig måtte det bygges to nye broer over elven.

FREE FALLING at Rampestreken, Åndalsnes
A couple of years ago I set myself a goal to hike pulpit rock in Stavanger, and so I did. After completing Pulpit Rock Rampestreken in Åndalsnes became my next goal with its majestic moutains al around the city of Åndalsnes. Today that goal was fulfilled. I am so grateful that I can experience adventures like this in my own country.
We rented a small cabin at Åndalsnes Camping ( and ate at the Italian Restaurant Piccola Mama Rosa, both recommended.

Day 1/4 Oslo to Åndalsnes via Dombås | Hiking in Rampestreken and Kayaking in Gjerdsetbygda
(Click HD for better reso)
This was the start of our four-day road trip to Western Norway. The trip started from Oslo to Åndalsnes, then Trollstigen to Geiranger and Ålesund. We took a detour at the Atlantic Ocean Road and drove to Trondheim.
It took us six hours to drive from Oslo to Åndalsnes. There were actually a lot of breaks but we did not took a lot pictures along the way since we were just enjoying the views. Magestic mountains, crystal clear rivers, streams and waterfalls, colourful cabins and houses entertained and delighted us along the way. It was so surreal seeing the gigantic Trollwall.
We drove straight to Gjerdsetbygda Turistsenter where we stayed for our first day. The mountain and lake views were splendid, I could live there. The apartment itself was cozy, spacious and relaxing. We took our lunch there, rested for a while and drove 10 minutes away to the starting point of our hike, Rampestreken.
Rampestreken is not as popular as Trolltunga or Preikestolen, but is just as wonderful as the two. It is considered a moderate hike, an average of 2-3hr back and forth, and even children and people of age can do it. It fact we met a lot of kids and oldies along the hike.
After the hike, we drove back to the Gjerdsetbygda and took advantage of the free kayaking offered by the place. Imagine after a 6hr drive, we managed to hiking and kayaking?
Feel free to comment if you have questions regarding the trip, I would gladly help as long as I can :)

Hiking the Romsdalsegg
Åndalsnes, Norway, June 2014
Trollstigen - Åndalsnes - Romsdal
Trollstigen has been a magnet to tourists since 1936. The 11 hairpin turns wind their way nearly 3000 feet up the mountain, with the peaks Bispen, Kongen and Dronninga looming overhead, Some places the road is cut into the rock face, and other places it is built on natural foundations. In 2012 RV 63 will become Trollstigen National Tourist road with new viewpoints, better safety and beatiful architecture of the highest international quality. Basejumpers often jump off these mountains. Trollstigen is closed during winter and usually opens at the end of May.

Wikipedia Info:
Trollstigen (English: Trolls' Ladder) is a serpentine mountain road in Rauma, Norway, part of Norwegian National Road 63 connecting Åndalsnes in Rauma and Valldal in Norddal. It is a popular tourist attraction due to its steep incline of 9% and eleven hairpin bends up a steep mountain side. Trollstigen was opened on July 31, 1936, by King Haakon VII after 8 years of construction. During the top tourist season about 2,500 vehicles pass daily.[1][2]
The road is narrow with many sharp bends, and although several bends have been widened during the years 2005 to 2012,[3] vehicles over 12.4 metres long are prohibited from driving the road. During the 2011 and 2012 seasons buses up to 13.1 metres were temporarily allowed as a trial.[4][5] At the 700 metres plateau there is a car park and several viewing balconies overlooking the bends and the Stigfossen waterfall. Stigfossen falls 320 metres down the mountain side. The pass has an elevation of approximately 850 metres.
A major tourist facility including a museum was completed in 2012. Several viewing platforms have been constructed and older constructions improved upon. Trollstigen (along with road 63) was officially opened as a national tourist route by the Minister of Transport and Communications on June 16, 2012.[6] Trollstigen itself (and the alpine summits to the west) lies within the Trollstigen landscape protection area,[7] while the alpine area east of Trollstigen (notably Trolltindene range) is part of Reinheimen National Park.[8]
Trollstigen is closed during autumn and winter. A normal opening season stretches from mid-May to October, but may sometimes be shorter or longer due to changes in the weather conditions.
In the summer of 2005 the road was repaired and about 16 million NOK was spent on protection against rockfall, making the road safer to drive on.

MANDATORY ONSCREEN CREDIT - Eskil Balance
A professional balance performer hiked to the edge of a cliff to perform a deadly dangerous handstand at more than 1300ft.
The adrenaline-filled footage was captured by Eskil Rønningsbakken at Rampestreken viewpoint in Åndalsnes, Norway on his fortieth birthday, June 24.
The viewpoint was 400 metres high and overlooked some incredible Norwegian scenery and required Eskil to travel 1.7km in order to reach the spot.
At the top, Eskil constructed a ladder that would be the point that he would commit to the handstand on.
