Ravana's Cave in Ella - A Mysterious and Historical Cave in Sri Lanka
Ravana's Cave is located near Ravana falls. It is about 2km distance from Ella town. Getting to the cave is not a difficult task, but at inside going further the cave is a challenging task.
According to the history, this is where King Ravana hid Princess Sita. There was a path from this cave to Dowa temple. But it is closed due to extreme danger and you can see the other entrance in Dow temple. Some people say that, Ravana's dead body can be found here and also that one day he will rise from the dead.
Visiting this place can be interested for anyone who love to travel and explore. It is also one of the most popular tourist attractions in Sri Lanka with a historical value.

FIRST UNDERWATER EXPLORATION OF RAVANA's CAVES - NIL DIYA POKUNA, ELLA, SRI LANKA
Nil Diya Pokuna, a mysterious underground lake, had been explored for years. But no one knew if the lake was part of an underwater cave system. This is a first time SCUBA cave exploration of this lake situated in high altitude, but deep within a mountain, and the subsequent discovery of a massive underwater cave.

Another thrilling cave dive to this mysterious cave system in the high altitudes of Ella, Sri Lanka revealed that the cave bottomed out at about 21m but continued to go into the mountains. The vastness and the mystery of these caves are yet to be fully solved.

Ella - Ravana's Cave
Like the Sthripura Cave in Welimada, legend has it that it was used by King Rawana to hide the Princess Sita. It is also thought to be connected to the cave at the Dowa rock temple in Bandarawela (part of King Walagamba's famous 'tunnel network'). Archaeological findings include a human skull dating back to 20,000 BC.
These tunnels prove beyond doubt the architectural brilliance of King Ravana. The tunnels served as a quick means of transport through the hills and also as a secret passage. They networked all the important cities, airports and dairy farms. A close look at these tunnels indicates that they are man-made and not natural formations.
Existing tunnel mouths are also situated at Ishtripura in Welimada, Senapitiya in Halagala, Ramboda, Labookelle, Wariyapola in Matale, and Seetha Kotuwa in Hasalaka and in many more places.
If you like to explore historical places in Sri Lanka and admire the Ravana History, then this is definitely a place to visit.

An expedition to the Mysterious Dowa Rock Temple with Ancient Buddaha Statue built by Sinhalese King Walagamba in 2000 BC and a Secret Cave Used by King Ravana in Ancient times. The Secret Cave you can see at the end of the video believes to connect between Ravana Ella and Bogoda Temple in Badulla. Now the save is closed permanently due to security reasons. This Buddhist temple is located in Ella Bandarawela road in Uva province in Sri Lanka between Misty mountains and waterfalls.

Exploring Nil Diya Pokuna and Beyond
Nil Diya Pokuna is an underground reservoir in Karandagolla area in Ella, Sir lanka. Total water surface is approximately 30-40 perch and depth is belived to be around 80ft though none have been officially verified. There's a complex tunnel system connected to the open space and we were able to explore one tunnel which leads to a 'room' in which Seetha is believed to be hidden 5000 years Probably the whole tunnel system could be a dried underground river and King Rawana might have used it for travel.

Hiking to Rawana Cave in Ella Sri Lanka
A little less popular than some of the other tourist sights in Ella Rawana (also known as Ravana )Cave is located near Ella Rock. There isn't a lot in it other than nesting swallows but the view from parts of the trail is better than the one from little Adams Peak.
It is a little bit of trek to get there especially if you are coming all the way from Ella town... We were coming from even further. Silly me didn't think for a moment that a cave would be at the top of a mountain. I mean aren't caves usually lower? Anyway this is our journey.
