North Georgia Hikes - Raven Cliff Falls - Helen Georgia
Raven Cliff Falls is an awesome 2.5 mile out and back hike just north of Helen, in the north Georgia mountains. This north Georgia hike has minimal ups and downs and meanders along a flowing creek that can rage at points. At the end and before you make the turnaround, there is a gorgeous resting area beside the tall Raven Cliff Falls. It is truly one of the nicest waterfall hikes in Georgia.

Yonah Mountain Campground, Hiking Raven Cliffs Falls in Helen Georgia Oktoberfest
This is the first couple days of our 11 anniversary rv camping trip to Helen Georgia during Oktoberfest. We started it off hiking the Raven Cliffs Falls the first day. We stayed at Yonah Mountian Campground while there. We left after Alli got off work Thursday evening and drove to Cordele GA and stopped at a Pilot gas station. Spent our first night ever overnight at an actual truck stop We've done rest stops and Walmarts before, but never a gas station.
We got up around 7am and went in and got some breakfast and hit the road. Pulled in to Yonah Campground around 11am and set up camp.
Around 1ish we headed to the Raven Cliffs Falls trail.
We only hiked about half way in to the first major falls. Took some pics and decided to hike back as it was after 4pm at this point and we were getting hungry!
Drove back to the downtown of Helen and went to the Troll Tavern. Had some pretzels and cheese soup along with some good German beer!
Mellissa wanted to get back to the campground at Yonah as they were having S'mores at the community campfire starting at 7pm. We enjoyed a couple S'mores and the company of some really nice folks, Charlie and Cathy who's friend owned the campground. They were there volunteering they time to run the S'mores festivities!
It was an absolutely beautiful day and a great way to end it with some campfire sweets!
Here's a link to the Yonah Campground website!
It's only like 4 miles from downtown Helen in Cleveland Georgia! Highly recommend this campground!

Hiking Raven Cliff Falls Trail in Helen, GA
Hiking Raven Cliff Falls Trail in Helen, GA on March 4, 2017. Recorded with a Sony Alpha a55 and Galaxy S7 Active, edited in PowerDirector 15. This is the second version of this video I made with the biggest change being the video stabilization... Which I haven't decided whether or not I like entirely yet.
Hiking Raven Cliff Falls - Suspension Bridge
This day we hiked the beautiful Raven Cliffs Falls at Ceasars Head State Park In South Carolina. We hiked out to the overlook at about two miles then hiked further to the falls. There is an amazing suspension bridge built over the falls. The round trip hike was about 8.5 miles but well worth it! This was in mid May so flowers were blooming and the temperature was perfect. The hike can be strenuous so bring plenty of water and food. We stopped at the overlook to have lunch. Definitely a great hike!

North Georgia Vlog - Day 3 || Hiking Raven Cliff Falls!!
It's a short video today! This is the third vlog in my North Georgia series, and in today's video we hike up to Raven Cliff Falls!! The hike itself is relatively uneventful until you actually reach the falls - you can keep going up to the very top of the falls, but you're basically ascending at a 60 degree angle at that point... very dangerous in the muddy conditions we were hiking in. The views just from the base of the falls were absolutely stunning though!
We finished off the day with a tasting at Habersham Winery - where my husband had a port-like wine in a chocolate cup - and a quiet night staying in at the B&B. Don't miss the end of the video though... my husband rescues my ladybug friend from my glass of wine!! ????

Full Hike: Getting to the Top of Raven Cliff Falls (Near Helen, Georgia)
Hike Description:
Compared to other popular waterfalls in northern Georgia, the waterfall at Raven Cliffs is an oddity: fed by the ever-flowing Dodd Creek, the waterfall could drape over the imposing cliffs in one fell swoop, but instead hides its intentions and chooses to contort between layers of the cliffs. Approaching hikers will observe only a third of the ensemble from the trail, and a climb to the top is required to take in the full grandeur of the location.
Fortunately, before the waterfall most of the hike is a gentle upward slope. Armies of rhododendron guard the path as if to assist hikers in the right direction (which, is simply to keep straight), while the dense canopy provides shades for most of the 5 miles. An overall sense of delight is further enhanced by the perpetual soothing sound of flowing water—fully drowning out any other audible bits or scattered thoughts. Alas, the only main focuses here: water, solitude, and life.
Self Commentary:
I was most impressed with the numerous camping options available in the area. Campsites dotted all along the trail and around the parking area, everything for the amazing cost of FREE. There were a few places on the trail where setting foot in water (and getting wet) would most likely be required after some hard rainfalls. After climbing the right side to higher up it is possible to continue to the other side of the waterfall by crossing the creek. Speaking of which, Dodd Creek made for a great sleeping aid while I was there.

a wet day but we went anyway. when wet a trip to the top of the falls was impossible. the trail is steep but manageable i would not want to go much later in the year than i did. the leaves make it harder to follow the trail.
