LA'AL RATTY | ESKDALE to RAVENGLASS
*** WARNING - This will likely be of no interest to you unless you are a train geek ***
A ride on Northern Rock - a fine steam engine on the Eskdale to Ravenglass Railway, affectionately known locally as La'al Ratty meaning 'little railway' (Cumbrian Dialect).
In this video, I travel from Dalegarth station all the way to Ravenglass, our engine was Northern Rock. The staff, driver and guard were all brilliant and very knowledgeable. I would fully recommend this activity for any trip to the Lake District National Park

Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway
Lakeland's oldest, friendliest and longest most scenic railway Join us as we journey from Ravenglass, the only coastal village in the Lake District National Park, across the estuary, through the hills, past seven request stops with a 1:55 gradient at times, en route to our final destination some seven miles up the line to Dalegarth for Boot Station. The journey itself was one of Wainwright's favorites, crossing seven miles of spectacular scenery to the foot of England's highest mountains, the Scafell Range (3,209ft) at their peak.

Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway Yellow Timetable Saturday 29th July 2017
Hello & Welcome to Harnetty Railways
Coming up
We make our very 1st visit to The Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway in the lake district in Cumbria.
We start at the railway's headquarters at Ravenglass were their services connect with the mainline services.
We have a look round & in between services I had special permission to look round the engine sheds.
We see Northern Rock & River Irt depart Ravenglass with their trains.
We board River Mite's train as 2017 was very special year for the loco as this was her 50th Birthday.
River Mite performed magnificently over the 40 min journey to Dalegarth passing Northern Rock & River Irt along the way.
Apologies for the shakiness of my go pro camera as River Mite was really going for it.
We soon arrived at Dalegarth the end of the line here we leave the train as we go lineside & see the services go through at speed.
We see River Mite pass by at Beckfoot as she heads back to Ravenglass.
We walk further up the main road just outside Fisherground halt as we see Northern Rock on her 2nd run to Dalegarth pass by.
We soon arrive at the halt as we see the arrival & departure of River Irt.
A surprise was installed for me by the volunteers of the railway as I was invited to ride on the footplate of Northern Rock for the trip back to Ravenglass.
I would like to say on record a special thank you to all the volunteers of The Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway for giving me this very special opportunity.
After a magnificent ride on the footplate we arrive back at Ravenglass & we end this video with Northern Rock departing for Dalegarth.
Once again like I said earlier a special thank you to all the volunteers of The Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway for making my Inaugural visit to the railway the most memorable.
Thanks for reading enjoy the film.
