WAT PA PRA DU - Last Rayong vid
Before we drove home to Bangkok from Rayong, we make a stop at Wat Pa Pra Du. I believe I was the only foreigner there. It was an interesting temple with an under the ground area. I'm not sure of the significance of it. It was a brief but good trip to Rayong.
How China Invaded Songkhla • City Pillar Shrine • สงขลา • THAILAND • ศาลเจ้าพ่อหลักเมือง
At first glance, you might think you’re in China. Walking through town, you see numerous Chinese signs in the streets, papers lanterns and even steamed bao buns. But this is Songkhla, one of the oldest cities in Thailand.
How did the Chinese get here in the first place and why didn’t the Thai King just kick them out?
200 years ago, the Chinese were starving because of war and famine. Many of them left and migrated to towns all around the world. A few came to southern Thailand and landed in Songkhla, then just a small port city on the Gulf of Siam. One of those first immigrants was the great-great grandfather of Mr. Chanin Sakarin. Today, he’s the Vice President of Songkhla’s Hokkien Society.
“Yes, they were from Fuijan provence. They made Songkhla their new home and brought their traditions with them.”
The Chinese who came to Songkhla didn’t get any kind of financial support from the Thai King. But they were hard workers and when they had saved their money – they built shrines to house their gods.
“When you migrate to another land, you’ll have many adventures and things you have to deal with. I think the gods can support you and give you spirit to fight,” says Mr. Sakarin.
As Songkhla grew, King Rama III back in Bangkok took notice of the Chinese who had crashed his kingdom. Of course he could have just sent his army kicked these immigrants out. Instead, however, the King did something very clever. He raised them up. He elevated Songkhla from a village to an official Thai city and built the residents a grand city wall.
“He wanted to make Songkhla a stronghold for the government in the southern part of China.”
To prove to the Chinese that they were now an official part of his Kingdom, Rama III sent a royal gift. It’s called a city pillar. Similar to cornerstones found in American architecture or city gates in Europe, a city pillar marks the symbolic foundation of towns in Thailand.
“In Thailand we have a tradition that when you built a new house, you put the first column in the ground.”
Throughout Thailand, city pillars were set up in Buddhist buildings, because the King and the Thais were Buddhists. In Songkhla, however, the King allowed the Chinese to put their city pillar in their shrine alongside to their Chinese gods. It was a symbolic statement. In doing this, the King was saying that although these Chinese had come to Thailand without permission and had a different religion – they were still a welcome part of his kingdom.
Since then, the city throws a big party once a year at the City Pillar Shrine, as it’s known today. Songkhla has also prospered. It’s one of the wealthiest cities in all of Thailand.
“Here is the Chinese and the next road over is Muslim, and another is Thai. We are in a very tolerant society that we can accept differences in beliefs,” says Mr. Sakarin.

Rayong Thailand Vlog/Pagoda/Banphemarket/Thailandvlog/RayongThailand/exploretheunexplored
Hey guys here is my new vlog on exploring Rayong province which is in the eastern part of Thailand.
Places I visited :
Phra Chedi Klang Nam: Pagoda located located in the middle of the mouth of the Rayong River.Tourists can travel to Phra Chedi Klang Nam everyday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Once the Chedi used to symbolise reaching Rayong for sailors. The area surrounding the Pagoda was very scenic and mind pleasing a must visit place in Rayong.
Location:
Ban Phe market which is also known as Comprehensive product market, Ban Phe Municipality (100 pillar market): This market is boat shaped with items like clothes, dried fish products, chips made of durian, banana, jackfruit, decorative items made of shells and the price here were quite reasonable. A good place to shop and sight seeing. There is also a street market outside this place selling similar items
Location:
Ban phe beach: This is a beautiful beach right near the ban phe souvenir market the beach is beautiful and if you want enjoy relax on the beach without much people around this is an perfect one.
Suan Son Beach: Another beach close by from ban phe beach the way towards the beach is covered with trees and this makes it look heavenly. The beach is nice peaceful with street food and couple restaurants around, good place to have picnic with your family and friends.

???????? PRACHINBURI - Amazing Herbal City
Art Thomya, a Thai singer/songwriter, will show you AMAZING HARBAL CITY of Prachinburi, a province in Eastern Thailand.
++++++++++
Welcome to Prachinburi, a province in Eastern Thailand known for its richness in herbal plants and Thai traditional medicines. Regarded as Thailand's Herbal City, Prachinburi is where you can learn a lot about history and local medical wisdom.
(1) Chaophraya Abhaibhubejhr Building
Chaophraya Abhaibhubejhr Building was established in 1909 by Chaophraya Abhaibhubejhr or Khun Chum Abhaiwong. It was built in European Baroque style architecture to be the reception palace for King Rama V, for his majesty should visit Prachinburi; however, the king had passed away before. The building was then used as the Royal Reception Hall for King Rama VI, along with other royal family members.
The ownership of building and surrounding lands were then inherited to Princess Suwandhana (สุวัทนา). She bestowed all the property to be a military hospital for general public use. The ownership was then transferred to Ministry of Public Health, and was founded to be Prachinburi hospital, later its name was changed to Abhaibhubejhr hospital.
In 1990, Thailand's Fine Arts Department announced registration of Abhaibhubejhr Building as a national historic landmark. It was also awarded the outstanding architecture building of Thailand. The hospital is also a Thai Herbal Medicine museum, aiming to be a research and study centre for Thai medicines and herbs.
(2) Abhaibhubejhr Day Spa
In the same area, there is Abhaibhubejhr Day Spa which provides spa services and treatments. The Day Spa was created as part of social enterprise under the supervision of Chao Phya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital. I have a chance to try a treatment today called เผายา or Abdominal Fire Therapy which is a Thai traditional treatment using different kinds of herbs and helps decrease indigestion and allergy.
(3) Baan Mor Ploy (Bhumi Bhubejhr Building)
Managed by Chao Phraya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital ,Baan Mor Ploy (บ้านหมอพลอย) is known as Bhumi Bhubejhr Herbal Wisdom Park. Mor Ploy or หมื่นชำนาญแพทยา is the last royal medical doctor of Siam. His ancestors were royal medical doctors since the early Rattanakosin era or over 200 years ago. There are several kinds of herbs planted in this area. This place is a learning centre for herbs with some exhibitions and Thai traditional medicine and herbal products for sale at affordable prices. It is also a venue for international meetings and conferences.
(4) Baan Lao Reung
We are in Thailand's Herbal City, so we must try herbal food...I mean healthy food. I would like to introduce to you Baan Lao Rueng Mueng Samoonprai, literally translated to the house that tells stories of the herbal city.
This is a beautiful white house donated to Chao Phraya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital by the Piamsomboon family. The house itself is over 70 years old. Complete with exhibition zones and herb garden, Baan Lao Rueng Mueng Samoonprai will serve you with stories of Prachinburi in addition to colorful herb-based food.
(5) Onsen at Serenity Hotel & Spa
Prachinburi has some Japanese expats who work in the area, so that's why they have onsen, a traditional Japanese hot bath. Onsen here is decorated with volcanic rough stone and wood ponds with heated water at 42 degree celsius and Jacuzzi spa jets. These will help you release stress. Soaking in hot bath like this will have biological effects on your body. It will improve your blood circulation. Sore muscle and back pains will disappear after one or two sessions of onsen. I like the unique design and relaxing environment here.
Moreover, they also so have Thai massage and spa treatments here which range from homemade body scrubs to body masks. After Onsen, it is recommended to try one of these treatments. I am sure it will be a rejuvenating experience.
