Killer bus on Anzac Hwy WMW174
See all reports on faulty buses here:
On 24 June video footage and correspondence was sent to Director of Road Safety, DTEI, Mr Martin Small, stating It is only a matter of time till a cyclist is injured or killed due to this fault. A reply on 30 June stated this information was forwarded to the Departments Public Transport Division.
At the request of an administration person from the Department of Transport, I sent a second copy of the letter and CD (Video) to Dept of Transport, 71 Transport Rd, Netley, on 7 August 2009.
I have received no response in this regard, and from this video evidence (24 Jan 2010) of bus WMW174 there seems there has been no effort to remove this hazard.
I have telephoned the office on 2 February 2010 with a request to be called back.
My concern is that;
- faulty buses are not identified by the drivers, inspectors or maintenance inspection processes, and
- no action has been made to remove this hazard, nor improve processes to prevent re-occurrence.

We’re Not Just A Small Flower Shop
We’re Not Just A Small Flower Shop
In talking to people here and there – There’s a myth I’d like to quell
That Schaaf Floral is not a little flower shop – So a tour with rhyme I’m going to tell
Here is our green plant section – With many to choose from as you can see
They make a wonderful gift – Or Sympathy plant, wouldn’t you agree
We also have blooming plants – In an array of colors for you
It’s a fun and appreciated gift – That lasts longer than cut flowers do
Here’s a shot of our cooler – It’s 43 feet long and 12 feet wide
We keep a rose display in the front – With many arrangement to choose from in the side
We try to keep a fresh assortment – Of flowers from which you can choose
If we don’t have it, we can probably get it – In the end, you don’t lose
And here are our Candy Bouquets – For that person with the sweetest tooth
They’re colorful and you can eat them – Whether you’re older or just a youth
Many Dad’s get them on Fathers Day – Designed in a cute Fire Engine or Truck
There’s many other variations – Like this wonderful yellow duck
Or if you’re just after chocolate – Abdallah chocolate is Minnesota made
And we think it’s the best for the money – Now I’m not trying to persuade
But if you like chocolate – Stop in and give it a try
There are many different varieties – All of them good, and that’s no lie
And just as an added bonus – To cure your smallest doubt
We’ll give you a sample to try – Believe me, with joy you’ll shout
We’ve got Halloween displays – And Fall silk arrangements galore
If you don’t see something you like – We can always make more
And then there are greeting cards – We make easy for you to shop
Just add a card to your gift – And it’s all done with one stop
There’s also our book selection – Wonderful books to warm your heart
Jodi Hills and Warren Hanson – Two authors who from the herd, are miles apart
These books are very touching – As we’ve noticed since putting them on display
People stand and read them – They grab you in a special way
We also have decorations for the home – Our walls are living examples for you
We try to keep it interesting and versatile – And try to give you a decorating clue
As you can see we have Gourmet Food – And it’s really some delicious stuff
Honey and I usually taste it all – Some so good, we can’t get enough
You can send out a Gourmet Basket – It’s a wonderful holiday gift
Or Gourmet and fruit mixed – When you’re trying to give someone a lift
But we can’t forget the Thyme’s – Personal care products made right here in town
Everything a lady could want – To smooth away an unhappy frown
Now we come to the jewelry table – We try to keep it interesting at a reasonable price
As you can see it’s pretty diverse – Ladies can never have too much jewelry, that’s just my advice
Here’s a view of our display windows – And with it a little known fact
This doesn’t just happen by accident – Before each new season, Honey and the staff have to act
For them it’s a labor of love – With a dose of pride added to the mix
We want to draw you in to see the store – Yes, I’m giving away some of our tricks
So you can maybe get an overall sense - Here’s a short virtual tour
As you can it’s pretty diverse – At competitive prices, that’s for sure
And now for my favorite section – It’s for the babies that we all adore
We have baby mats and stuffed animals – But watch there’s even more
We have Cuddle Talk Blankets – A unique and popular gift
Push a button and it talks to baby – Giving their curiosity a lift
Then we have Taggies – Stuffed animals with little satin ribbon for baby to feel
It keeps baby busy exploring – Most babies do it with such zeal
But we also have Fair Trade Bags – From Artisans of Napal
Beautiful, hand made bags – But listen, that’s not all
We’ve also got cute stocking caps – With tie strings on the side
A wonderful gift for giving – And something you can give with pride
It helps those folks survive – And get a fair wage for their work
Remember it’s all one big universe – So let’s all do our share and not shirk
As you can see we’ve got vases – Or containers as we say in the game
Beautiful ones and ordinary – Some so pretty, they’ll cause you to exclaim
Of course this is not everything – But I wanted to plant this seed
We’re much more than just a flower shop – When special things you need
So this is the end of the story – I hope you’ve enjoyed the tour
Because at Schaaf Floral – If you’re not happy, we’re not done, that’s for sure!!
I’m Bud The Rhymer
'Sparks' on the Hurstbridge Line 26/8/12
Metro Trains Melbourne EMUs operating on the scenic section between Greensborough and Hurstbridge, in Melbourne's outer north-east. This was shot on a Sunday while there were steam shuttles running for the Hurstbridge Wattle Festival. Only one Comeng set made an appearance all day, with all other services being run by X'trapolis units. The Hurstbridge line still uses the long outdated 'Miniature Electric Staff' and 'Train Staff and Ticket' safeworking systems, and still retains several semaphore signals. The line is set to receive an automatic signalling system in the next few months, with much of the new equipment already in place. It should also be noted that the Eltham-Hurstbridge section opened in 1912, so this is the 100th year of operation. Details of shots are as follows:
00:09 - A Down X'trapolis set passes the semaphore Distant signal as it climbs away from Greensborough.
00:34 - Up X'trapolis approaching Wattle Glen.
01:08 - Down X'trapolis departing Wattle Glen.
01:42 - X'trapolis passing paddocks bwtween Wattle Glen and Hurstbridge.
01:54 - A Comeng set emerges from the cutting just after Wattle Glen, heading for Hurstbridge.
02:16 - The Comeng returning from Hurstbridge towards Wattle Glen.
02:49 - Down X'trapolis between Wattle Glen and Hurstbridge.
03:09 - Up X'trapolis between Hurstbridge and Wattle Glen.
03:41 - An X'trapolis arrives into platform 2 at Diamond Creek to cross an Up steam special with K153 and K190. The signaler walks across with the Diamond Creek-Hurstbridge 'staff,' giving it to the spark driver in return for the Eltham-Diamond Creek staff.
05:08 - A Hurstbridge-bound X'trapolis passes through thickly flowering Wattle trees near Diamond Creek.
05:25 - An X'trapolis traverses the long straight section near Allendale Road, between Diamond Creek and Eltham, startling some Cockatoos along the way.
06:30 - An X'trapolis departs Eltham and crosses the wooden trestle bridge just after dark.
06:56 - Another X'trapolis shunts to the yard at Eltham via the trestle bridge. This train normally waits in the platform for about 40 mins before running another service to the city, but on this occasion it had to shunt to the yard to make way for the steam special.
