Scotland Roadtrip | The Best of Isle of Skye
After missing the open road and the adventure of camping for far too long, we decided to defy the January blues and head north from Glasgow on a road trip to the Isle of Skye. Passing through some of Scotland's most stunning, untouched scenery, such as the Rannoch Moors and the beautiful western lochs.
When we finally made it to Skye the weather decided to turn on us, forcing us to take shelter in the car for the night. This did not stop us the next day, however, when we decided to make the most of the beautiful countryside of Skye and explore the Fairy Glen and the incredible Quiraing mountain range.
To finish the day off with a bang, we decided to brave the hike up to see the beautiful Old Man of Storr. The weather was on our side long enough for us to get within sight of the Storr, however, soon enough the weather turned as expected and we were sent fleeing down the hill.
Come along and see some of Scotland's most spectacular mountain scenery with our Isle of Skye roadtrip.

Dream Come True | IDP | First International Drive | England to Scotland |
It was a beautiful morning of 18th March 2019. We started our journey from Leicester towards Glasgow. We had heard a lot about the scenic beauty of this England to Scotland connecting road. So, we were very much excited about our journey. We hoped that we could see some snowfall too during our stay in Glasgow. We took 3 breaks during the journey and had tasty snacks in the services. I drove around 250 miles. It was dream come true as it was my first International drive after getting the IDP (International Driving Permit). The road was mesmerisingly beautiful, I named it heavenly road. Glasgow is also very beautiful city. I would love to drive to Scotland again in near future.
A Guide To Island Hopping in Scotland
Island hopping is a great way to experience the offshore gems and secret spots that Scotland has to offer – whether you have a week or a weekend to spend here, the islands won’t disappoint.
Scotland is famed for its staggering mountains, beautiful lochs, and a variety of gems to explore, but, did you know that our islands are magical and otherworldly? Scotland has over 790 islands, each unique in their own way. With incredible natural beauty, dramatic seascapes and magical atmosphere, you’ll never want to leave island life behind.
Our islands are split into a few groups – Inner Hebrides, Outer Hebrides, Shetland, and Orkney.
Navigating across these bucket list-worthy islands is easier than you may think. Regular ferry connections run from the mainland to the islands on the west and north coasts of Scotland, as well as between the islands themselves. Some ferries allow you to take your car so you can continue exploring when you’re there.
You can even fly to various islands from the cities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and Inverness. Or why not fly from island-to-island to save time travelling?
Our islands have more to show than you can fit into a day – so why not stay over? There’s plenty of accommodation options on offer – from cosy cottages on the waterfront and eco-friendly self-catering lodges, to quaint campsites, caravans and B&Bs – but make sure you book ahead!
Venture to the Inner Hebrides if you want to explore places seen in blockbuster films, such as Prometheus, Snow White & The Huntsman, and Flash Gordon, or if you’re up for a scenic sailing tour. If magical lands filled with ancient history take your fancy, then head to Orkney!
The Isle of Mull is the perfect location to spot a variety of wildlife, including eagles soaring overhead, and head to Tobermory to see the colourful houses and buildings as well as trying some fresh seafood in one of the local pubs. Or, if you want to sample a dram or two of whisky then head to the Isle of Islay where you can choose from eight distilleries.
On the west coast, enjoy the untouched beauty of the Isle of Jura, let your inner adventurer out and try windsurfing on the Isle of Tiree, or uncover the turbulent history at the ancient abbey on the Isle of Iona.
If you’re a wildlife enthusiast, the waters off the Isle of Coll are a great place to spot giant basking sharks, and even if you’ve never been there, you’re probably already familiar with Skye – it’s one of the most photographed, and talked about, of the Scottish islands.
The Outer Hebrides are perfect if you’re looking for crystal clear waters and golden sandy beaches. Or hop further afield to Orkney and Shetland to tick these magical places off your bucket list. From remnants of ancient civilisations, the chance to spot the Northern Lights during the darker winter months, and the cries of thousands of seabirds, to lively folk music sessions and ferocious Viking culture – there’s an abundance of things to keep you busy!
Why not follow some of our ready-made itineraries, or plan one of your own to make the most out of your island adventure?

HITCHHIKE TO SCOTLAND! Joe & James (Adventure/Parkour Vlog)
Joe & James' super spontaneous hitchhike adventure to the Land of Scots! Honestly, this whole journey was so much fun - you had to stay on your toes and be two steps ahead with contingency plans in place, in case you're flung into the back of a car boot.
We hope you enjoy what you see, as we tried to make it just as entertaining as it is inspiring! Hopefully it's the start of something big, and we can only thank everyone who helped us. From those who were kind enough to pick us up, to those who showed us around and let us crash at their homes.

Dunvegan Castle Isle Of Skye Inner Hebrides Scotland
Tour Scotland travel video Dunvegan Castle on ancestry visit to the West Coast of the Isle Of Skye, Inner Hebrides. Built on a rock in an idyllic loch side setting, Dunvegan is the oldest continuously inhabited castle in Scotland. It is the seat of the MacLeod of MacLeod, chief of the Clan MacLeod. Probably a fortified site from the earliest times, the castle was first built in the 13th century and developed piecemeal over the centuries. In the 19th century the whole castle was remodelled in a mock medieval style.. Dunvegan Castle has been the home of the chiefs of the Clan MacLeod since 1270. Sir Reginald MacLeod of MacLeod, KCB, born 1st of February 1847, died 20th of August 1935, was the 27th chief of the Scottish clan Clan MacLeod. He was the son of Norman MacLeod of MacLeod, born 1812, died 1898, 25th chief of Clan MacLeod and his wife Louisa Barbara St. John, born 1818, died 1880, only daughter of the 14th Baron St John of Bletso. He was educated at Harrow and Cambridge. On 17th of April 1877, MacLeod of MacLeod married Lady Agnes Mary Cecilia Northcote the daughter of Sir Stafford Northcote, later 1st Earl of Iddesleigh, and Cecilia Frances Farrer. They had two daughters. Sir Reginald became 27th chief of Clan MacLeod in 1929 on the death of his elder brother Norman Magnus and died six years later in 1935. His daughter Olive was noted for her journey of 3,700 miles into the heart of Africa to visit her fiancé's grave. The MacLeod waterfalls on the Moa Kabi river are named after her. The famous Fairy Flag of the MacLeod's was mounted by Sir Reginald. An expert from the Victoria and Albert Museum discussed with Sir Reginald the possible origins of the flag, avoiding reference to the supernatural. The chief listened and said, You may believe that, but I know that it was given to my ancestor by the fairies. Sir Reginald was the owner of the island of St Kilda when the last inhabitants left the island in 1930. He sold the island to Lord Dumfries, later Marquess of Bute in 1931.

A Journey To The Isle of Skye By Rail | A travel film featuring the Caledonian Sleeper & Quiraing
eyy check it out I made a video..
This video is the story of a trip from the Isle of Wight to the Isle of Skye without a car and without flying. Skye is one of the most amazingly beautiful places I've ever been to - on the way to certain places that have become famous you pass by 10 other incredible views. You want to stop and appreciate every part of the countryside.
I also made a video about how to plan your own trip to Skye without a car and on a budget:
We kept to a pretty tight budget and enjoyed the Isle of Skye in April before it is apparently overrun. Going out of season is a trade-off - it was way quieter but the rain was kind of a downer.
We got the sleeper train from London Euston, the Caledonian Sleeper and this video features a full review and cabin tour. We boooked the tickets online. We took the Calmac ferry from Malaig to Armadale after going over the Glenfinnan viaduct on the train. When staying in Broadford, we rented electric bikes from South Skye Cycles and took the road to Elgol. This was an unforgettable bike ride and I constantly wanted to stop and film, since every 100m we saw something else that seemed amazing and made me wish I hadn't stopped at the previous place. From Portree, we went on a couple of small hikes and took a minibus tour to the Quiraing, Fairy Glens, Fairy Pools, Uig, The Old Man of Storr, Kilt Rock and a few other places. It was the best trip ever.
