Birkenhead Priory (2018)
Birkenhead Priory is in Priory Street, Birkenhead, Merseyside, England. It is the oldest standing building on Merseyside.
The remains of the priory are recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building.
The Priory was founded about 1150 by Hamon de Masci, 3rd Baron of Dunham Massey for the Benedictine Order.
In 1318 the monks from Birkenhead Priory were granted ferry rights by Edward II. This allowed them to build a house in what is now Water Street to store their corn. The house was also used by travellers for shelter if the weather was too bad for the ferry to cross the River Mersey.
St Mary's Tower was originally part of Birkenhead's first parish church, opened in 1821 in the grounds of the priory.
The ground floor of the Frater House contains a museum detailing the history of the site.

That's a fake tan
That's a discarded chip paper

A gang of four men who cornered a former TV Gladiator and threatened to stab him in the neck over a debt have been jailed. Mike Ahearne, better known as Warrior in ITV's Gladiators, was set upon by the group while in a Hertfordshire coffee shop. The 1990s star was surrounded by three men and told: 'I will do you in if I do not get the money', Liverpool Crown Court heard.Thugs Alan Maddocks, 40, Peter Maddocks, 42, Scott Monaghan, 28 and Carl Morgan, 45, were locked up after pleading guilty to affray. Pictured: 1990s star Mike Ahearne was known as Warrior in the wildly popular Gladiators television series A waitress described Mr Ahearne as a regular and told the court how the former television celebrity entered Ruben's Coffee Shop around 5.30pm before taking a seat in the corner. Arthur Gibson, prosecuting, told the court: 'Mr Ahearne told them he had no money and anyway it wasn't his debt, but Morgan insisted that the 'clock was ticking' and that 'it needs sorting'. '(She) formed the impression that the conversation between the three men was 'heated', and on being told by the regular customer that they weren't getting their money back the two men became more aggressive.'Mr Ahearne was overheard telling the men 'You can keep your knives to yourself' and one of the defendants telling him: 'I'm going to do you in if I do not get the money'. A short time later, both Peter and Alan Maddocks arrived at the coffee shop in an 'irate' mood and joined the group. The court heard Alan Maddocks sat down and kicked Mr Ahearne forcefully to his shin, saying 'you've f****** got our money,' 'you're working with him', and 'you owe me this money'.Mr Gibson said: 'Alan Maddocks produced a blue Stanley knife from his pocket and said 'I'll stab you in the f****** neck'.. His brother, while not producing another knife, gave Mr Ahearne the impression he had one in his pocket and said 'I'll stab you in the other side of the neck'.' Mr Gibson said CCTV footage showed all four men around Mr Ahearne 'gesticulating in a threatening manner'.The cafe closed up and the men moved onto the pavement outside, surrounding Mr Ahearne and telling him to move onto a field behind Rubens, known as the Arno. But, by chance, Mr Ahearne's wife Gemma was driving past at the time and noticed the men surrounding her husband.Mr Gibson said: 'She stopped and went over to the group because she was concerned that the group was trying to get her husband to go with them, possibly in a vehicle.'The court heard the debt related to money provided to a friend of Mr Ahearne as an investment.Alan Maddocks, of Birkenhead, and Peter Maddocks, of no fixed address
