The Jaguar XF is a mid-size luxury car / sports saloon produced by British car manufacturer Jaguar Cars. T. Willgoss- Effects of Balovaptan on Health-Related Quality of Life of Adult Males with Autism

Introduction
The phase 2 VANILLA study investigated the efficacy and safety
of balovaptan, a selective V1a receptor antagonist, in adult men
with ASD and IQ greater than or equal to 70 for the treatment of
social and communication deficits. Evaluating effect of balovaptan on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) was an exploratory
objective.
Methods
VANILLA (NCT01793441) was a 12-week, parallel-group, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study evaluating daily
balovaptan 1.5, 4, or 10 mg PO. HRQoL was assessed at baseline, week 6, and week 12 using the Pediatric Quality of Life
Inventory (PedsQL)™ Generic Core Scales v4.0, which has
age-appropriate versions. The scale assesses physical, emotional, social, and school/work functioning, from which Total, Physical Health Summary, and Psychosocial Health Summary scores
are derived. The PedsQL Family Impact Module and Cognitive
Functioning Scale were also used. Changes from baseline at
week 12 were estimated using a mixed model repeated measurements analysis of covariance.
Results
The study enrolled 223 participants, with 56 included in the analysis of balovaptan 10 mg (n = 30) versus placebo (n = 26) at
week 12. Clinically relevant differences were observed for 10 mg
balovaptan versus placebo on the PedsQL total score (estimated
difference (ED), 7.15, 90% CI, 2.09–12.20, P = 0.021, effect size
(ES), 0.63) and on the Psychosocial Health Summary score (ED,
8.53, 90% CI, 2.79–14.27, P = 0.016, ES, 0.67). No significant
difference was observed on the Physical Health Summary score
(ED, 4.14, 90% CI, -0.19–10.20, P = 0.257, ES, 0.31). Trends
for improvement from baseline at week 12 were also observed
in the balovaptan 10 mg group versus placebo on the PedsQL
Cognitive Functioning Scale (ED, 9.15, 90% CI, 1.81–16.49, P
= 0.042, ES, 0.56). No differences were observed between any
dose of balovaptan and placebo at week 12 on the PedsQL Family Impact Module.
Discussion
The VANILLA trial showed positive trends of improvement in
HRQoL with balovaptan 10 mg compared with placebo in adult
men with ASD. To fully determine the effect of balovaptan on
HRQoL, ongoing and future studies will be critical to replicate
and extend these finding across the age/gender spectrum of individuals with ASD.

九巴在 2014 年接收全港首部荷蘭製專利巴士，同時為本港第 3 款兩軸雙層巴士車型。本篇介紹由 VDL Bus & Coach 研發的 DB300 型，將於未來數年與另外 2 款兩軸雙層巴士車型丹尼士 E400 型及富豪 B9TL 型，競逐本港中型雙層巴士退役潮的商機。
VDL Bus & Coach 這間專營巴士底盤生產的公司，追尋本源可以上溯至 1928 年由荷蘭籍德富 (Van Doorne) 兄弟創立的車房。德富兄弟獲得資金創業後，於 1932 年正名的德富拖車製造廠 (Van Doorne's Aanhangwagen Fabriek N.V., DAF)，早期以生產運輸及軍用車輛為主。DAF 在 1948 年易名為德富汽車製造廠 (Van Doorne's Automobiel Fabriek, DAF) 後，在 1950 年代以生產引擎及掛接拖車急速擴展。
經歷連番併購重組
在 1976 年，富豪 (Volvo) 收購 DAF 在 1958 年起發展的私家車生產部門。其後在 1979 年終止掛接拖車生產線，轉移生產中型及重型車輛，並在 1987 年組成併購公司收購利蘭 (Leyland) 貨車生產線，再將巴士生產部門與 1931 年成立的荷蘭客車生產商 VDL Bova 合組成 United Bus。
在歐洲商用車輛生產商連番併購下，最終隨 1990 年代歐洲商用車輛市場急遽萎縮，致 United Bus 及 DAF 在內多家廠商相繼陷入財困，前者獲 1953 年成立的荷蘭 VDL 集團 (VDL Groep) 收購組成 DAF Bus International。VDL 集團在 1998 年再收購荷蘭另一家巴士製造商 Berkhof Jonckheere Groep，分拆出 Berkhof 及 VDL Jonckheere 後，再與 VDL Bova 及 DAF Bus International 合組為 VDL 巴士集團 (VDL Bus Groep)。其後 VDL 巴士集團先後於 2003 年及 2008 年再易名為 VDL Bus International 及現名，現仍為 VDL 集團成員。
窺準本港來年商機
VDL Bus & Coach 的產品多年來均專注在西歐市場，尤其倚重荷蘭、英國、法國及比利時市場。是次引入的 DB300 型師承 1991 年至 2006 年投產的 DB250 型，底盤沿襲 1989 年結業的都城嘉慕 (Metro-Cammell Weymann, MCW) 車陣，由當時 DAF Bus International 及英國巴士生產商 Optare 購入設計權益，15 年間共生產近 700 部車輛，成績相較歐洲另外 2 家大型巴士生產商丹尼士及富豪絕非斐然，惟及至 DB300 型經大幅度改良底盤及引擎室設計，遂成 VDL Bus & Coach 的得意之作。
有見本港將來仍有大量中型雙層巴士退役，單是九巴至 2019 年便有近 240 部 9.9 米丹尼士巨龍 (ADS146 - 235) 、10.6 米丹尼士三叉戟 (ATS1 - 100) 及 10.6 米富豪超級奧林比安 (ASV1 - 49) 退役。在 2009 年曾承接九巴 70 部 12 米富豪 B7RLE 型（車隊編制 AVC ）車身訂單的 Manufacturing Commercial Vehicles Group (MCV)，據悉窺準商機在 2013 年主導將 DB300 型英國市場版本加載冷氣系統並推介九巴試用，及安排新車在同年中旬於英國裝嵌車身，至 2014 年 1 月付運抵港，成為本港首款配 MCV 車身的雙層巴士車款。
輕量硬件加強載客
根據 VDL Bus & Coach 公佈的規格，DB300 型採用容積僅 6.7 公升的康明斯 ISB 系引擎，引擎淨重較容積 8.9 公升的 ISL 系引擎輕約 220 公斤，連同體積較小的油缸及其他零件，依照運輸署以車重最多 18 公噸及以每名乘客重 57 公斤計算載客量，即使本車型僅較丹尼士 E400 型 70 個座位多 2 人，企位卻額外多 6 人使總載客量達 98 人，為現時本港兩軸雙層巴士車款之冠，但最大馬力卻僅 250 匹，為 9.9 米丹尼士巨龍之後，本港最大馬力最低的雙層巴士車款。
首部車輛 AMC1 (SY4050) 抵港後幾經測試，至同年 9 月底出牌，車身採用與富豪 B7RLE 型相同的 MCV 車身，並採用 Hanover 橙牌及 Vogelsitze 座椅。至截稿前，九巴尚未增購本車型，故 AMC1 仍為九巴車隊中獨樹一幟的車輛。

Drink driver jailed after causing death of friend
A 21-year-old drink driver from North Herts was sentenced today (Friday December 9) after causing a collision that killed his good friend Jack Mudd.
Jack Kay was given an 18 month jail term by a judge at Cambridge Crown Court after pleading guilty to ‘causing death by careless driving whilst over the drink drive limit’ at an earlier hearing. He was also banned from driving for two years and will have to take extended retest before driving again.
The pair had been out drinking in Hitchin town centre in the early hours of Sunday October 4, 2015, when they got into Kay’s car to make the short journey back to Kay’s home just two miles away in Gosmore.
However Kay, who was driving, lost control of the car on a bend in a country road, hit a verge and the car overturned. It is believed the Peugeot was travelling a minimum of 40mph going into the bend on Preston Road. Neither were wearing seatbelts and as a result Kay was ejected from the vehicle. Kay suffered slight injuries. Sadly Jack Mudd died at the scene due to multiple injuries having been partially ejected from the vehicle. Following the collision Kay was taken to hospital where he provided a sample of blood which was found to contain 116mg of alcohol, above the legal limit of 80mg.
Investigating officer PC Shona Gillen, from the Beds, Cambs & Herts Forensic Collision Investigation Unit, said: “On the morning of October 4, 2015, a one vehicle road traffic collision occurred which had devastating effects on Jack Mudd’s parents, family, childhood sweetheart Jess and friends. This was a very tragic incident where sadly Jack Mudd lost his life as a result of his friend drinking and driving.
“That night Jack Kay, for reasons unknown, chose to drive the short distance from Hitchin Town Centre to Gosmore having consumed an amount of alcohol which put him over the drink drive limit and affected his judgement and his ability to drive. Jack Kay now has to live with the consequences of his decision to drink and drive.
“If you are planning on going out drinking with your friends, leave your car at home. It isn’t worth the risk of either getting caught drink driving or taking someone’s life. Preston Road was a road well known to Jack Kay which he had travelled along daily. A small amount of alcohol, whilst you may be under the drink drive limit, will affect your ability to judge distances and speeds. If your designated driver has been drinking, do not get in the car with them – get a taxi or call home. Any parent, even at 3am, would rather come and pick you up rather than be woken by a knock on the door from a police officer and be confronted by the devastating news that Ann and Dave have had to live with. Think, don’t drink and drive.”
Both friends were aged 19 at the time of the collision and had known each other since the age of eleven. Jack Mudd, or “Muddy” to his friends, was a promising young golfer from Stevenage who was studying at The Golf College in Sussex. He had won numerous competitions and had won a scholarship to study at university in Florida because of his golfing ability. His ambition was to hopefully turn professional.
His parents Dave and Ann Mudd said: “Living our lives without our son Jack has been sometimes impossible. We still take one day at a time. Jack was our life, our reason to live. Now we somehow have to find a way forward without him here. Jack had a bright and fantastic future ahead of him; he knew exactly what he wanted and worked so hard trying to get there.
“Jack’s death hasn’t just affected us, it has had a ripple effect, from his brother Mark, sister Kirsty, our wider families and his many friends made not just here where he went to school in Stevenage but throughout the country and across the world, through his interest in golf.
“Jack Kay will be sentenced but on the day of the crash we were handed our own life sentence. Nothing will bring our Jack back and we will never recover from our loss. Our perfect family life has been destroyed forever.
“Jack has lost his life for the cost of a taxi fare. We would appeal to everyone anyone who has had a drink – don’t worry about drink drive limits, just don’t get behind the wheel of a car at all.”
In Jack’s memory, Dave and Ann have been working hard to continue his passion for golf. They have been working with Knebworth Golf Club, building an academy named after Jack for under 18s. So far they have raised £25,000 for this cause and it is expected that it will be available for local schools to use. Jack’s former secondary school, John Henry Newman in Stevenage, has also named a PE classroom after him.

VHS Archive 1 - Trains in 1990's
I came across an old VHS tape in the shed. Cleaned off the cobwebs and managed to recover some of the footage. It shows a class 58 marshalling a ballast train in Welwyn Garden City sidings, HST's and Class 91's in GNR livery, before the main reason we were there, a Deltic hauled railtour. The image is too blurred to make out which of the preserved Deltic it is, so please feel free to comment below.
