The red beach is arguably one of the most famous and beautiful beaches of Santorini. It is located only some steps away from the ancient site of Akrotiri. The small size of the beach creates a much crowded atmosphere and there are many days where most of the visitors choose not to make it all the way down to the beach and instead admire this unique landscape of red and black volcanic rocks from the headland. Santorini is one of the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea. It was devastated by a volcanic eruption in the 16th century BC, forever shaping its rugged landscape. The whitewashed, cubiform houses of its 2 principal towns, Fira and Oia, cling to cliffs above an underwater caldera (crater). They overlook the sea, small islands to the west and beaches made up of black, red and white lava pebbles.
Greece is a country in southeastern Europe with thousands of islands throughout the Aegean and Ionian seas. Influential in ancient times, it's often called the cradle of Western civilization. Athens, its capital, retains landmarks including the 5th-century B.C. Acropolis citadel with the Parthenon temple. Greece is also known for its beaches, from the black sands of Santorini to the party resorts of Mykonos.

Santorini Greece (Part 6) - Red beach & Perissa (HD)

Red beach in the Akrotiri area. Beautiful beach, well known for the unique colour of the sand and the hill behind it. Soaring red lava cliffs which drop right to the sandy shore and into the clear blue sea, make for a majestic setting and one to enjoy. The beach can be reached either by boat (there are several connecting Red Beach with Perissa and Akrotiri or by foot (10 minutes walk from Akrotiri, you have to reach Agios Nikolaos church in Akrotiri next to the excavations area). We suggest to include Red beach into your itenerary.

Perissa is one of Santorini best beaches. Next to Emporio village a long dark sand endless beach.
A feature that makes Perissa unique (besides the crystal water and the smooth sand) is the fact that is the best protected beach from the summer Aegean winds (called Meltemia in Greek). Perissa lies right next to Profitis Ilias mountain, totally protected from the North.

Today we drive to Akrotiri lighthouse, visit the archaeological site- Akrotiri excavations ancient Thira, visit Red Beach and wonder around an amazing traditional village called Emporio. We finish the day with a visit to Kamari open air cinema.

These daily vlogs were filmed (with a very shaky hand...oops) by me, a scatty Welsh 'lady' called Claire. My husband and I traveled to Santorini May/June 2016 for a week. We couldn't decide where to stay on the island so we decided to stay in three different towns : 2 nts in Oia - Kastro Oia Houses, 2 nts in Perissa - Meltemi Village and then 3 nts in Fira - Scirocco apartments. We also hired a car for the whole week. I hope you enjoy our adventures in Santorini .

The Red Beach of Santorini, Greece is one of the most unique beaches in the world. Viewing from the top of the hill, you'll see a combination of the lovely blue sky and sea water along with the red-coloured rocks in red backdrop! These, plus the dark pebble stones are now known to be the remains of various Santorini volcanic eruptions.

The red beach is on the southern part of Santorini and can be reached by car, the more popular ATV way or through boat tours.

It was one of the major stops of our boat tour but unfortunately, my footages weren't saved the first time. Still glad though we were able to go back adventurously the next day by renting a car and an ATV.

OUR DAY IN RED BEACH SANTORINI ! - VLOG 003

After our Mykonos ferry was cancelled we rented a TINY adorable car which I drove ( HA!) and we went to Red beach! We were so happy we got to see what the hype was all about. We stayed in Akrotiri that night and headed to Mykonos in the morning!

I'm so excited to share my adventures in Greece with you guys! My first time in Greece!
