Copenhagen Hop on Hop Off Bus Leaving Cruise Terminal
During our 2015 30 day cruise (14 day Transatlantic, 9 day Baltic, & 7 Day Norway) we were able to visit Copenhagen on 3 separate ocassions. The first day we decided on the RedBlue Bus Tours Hop-on-hop-off bus which stopped close by the Copenhagen Cruise Terminal Oceankaj. This video was what the beginning of the ride was like. The cost was about ~$30 per person. They did take credit card.
I DO NOT, however, recommend this particular Hop on Hop Off Bus because later on we found out we can (and did) take the public Copenhagen bus for much cheaper (just need to have some Kronas on hand). Plus you have to wait a long time (30+ minutes) for the Hop-on Hop-off to come by each stop.
Copenhagen, Denmark - Hop On Hop Off Boat Tour (2018)
Copenhagen is the capital and most populous city of Denmark. The city has a population of 775,033 (as of January 2018), of whom 613,288 live in the Municipality of Copenhagen and the Copenhagen urban area has a population of 1,308,893 (as of January 2018). Copenhagen is situated on the eastern coast of the island of Zealand; another small portion of the city is located on Amager, and is separated from Malmö, Sweden, by the strait of Øresund. The Øresund Bridge connects the two cities by rail and road.
Originally a Viking fishing village founded in the 10th century, Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark in the early 15th century. Beginning in the 17th century it consolidated its position as a regional centre of power with its institutions, defences and armed forces. After suffering from the effects of plague and fire in the 18th century, the city underwent a period of redevelopment. This included construction of the prestigious district of Frederiksstaden and founding of such cultural institutions as the Royal Theatre and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. After further disasters in the early 19th century when Horatio Nelson attacked the Dano-Norwegian fleet and bombarded the city, rebuilding during the Danish Golden Age brought a Neoclassical look to Copenhagen's architecture. Later, following the Second World War, the Finger Plan fostered the development of housing and businesses along the five urban railway routes stretching out from the city centre.
Since the turn of the 21st century, Copenhagen has seen strong urban and cultural development, facilitated by investment in its institutions and infrastructure. The city is the cultural, economic and governmental centre of Denmark; it is one of the major financial centres of Northern Europe with the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. Copenhagen's economy has seen rapid developments in the service sector, especially through initiatives in information technology, pharmaceuticals and clean technology. Since the completion of the Øresund Bridge, Copenhagen has become increasingly integrated with the Swedish province of Scania and its largest city, Malmö, forming the Øresund Region. With a number of bridges connecting the various districts, the cityscape is characterised by parks, promenades and waterfronts. Copenhagen's landmarks such as Tivoli Gardens, The Little Mermaid statue, the Amalienborg and Christiansborg palaces, Rosenborg Castle Gardens, Frederik's Church, and many museums, restaurants and nightclubs are significant tourist attractions. The largest lake of Denmark, Arresø, lies around 27 miles (43 kilometers) northwest of the City Hall Square.
Copenhagen is home to the University of Copenhagen, the Technical University of Denmark and Copenhagen Business School. The University of Copenhagen, founded in 1479, is the oldest university in Denmark. Copenhagen is home to the FC København and Brøndby football clubs. The annual Copenhagen Marathon was established in 1980. Copenhagen is one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the world.
The Copenhagen Metro launched in 2002 serves central Copenhagen while the Copenhagen S-train and Lokaltog (private railway) and the Coast Line network serves and connects central Copenhagen to outlying boroughs. To relieve traffic congestion, which is partly the result of increased traffic because of the Fehmarn Belt Fixed Link road and rail construction is planned because the narrow 9-9.5 mile isthmus between Roskilde Fjord and Køge Bugt (Køge Bay) forms a traffic bottleneck. The Copenhagen-Ringsted Line will relieve traffic congestion in the corridor between Roskilde and Copenhagen.
Serving roughly two million passengers a month, Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup, is the busiest airport in the Nordic countries.

Title: Copenhagen
Country: Denmark
Copenhagen is a wonderful and fun city to visit. It is a city of bicycles and people. The people are very friendly unless you step into their bike lanes. The best way to see this city is the Hop-On-Hop-Off Busses and Boats. We take them around to see everything first then go back and get off at stops we want to visit. There are two lines available. We took the Stromma line. They had a special that gave us two days for the price of one. The busses and boat available on Stromma are:
• Red Mermaid Tour (Bus)
• Purple Christiania Tour (Bus)
• Green Carlsberg Tour (Bus)
• Blue Boat Tour (Boat)
A great place to visit and have lunch is the Reffen – Street Food market. It is a group of shipping containers that are food stalls, beer & wine stalls, gelato stalls, etc. There are picnic tables everywhere to sit and enjoy your lunch outdoors. Some stalls give free samples. The food is not expensive considering this is Denmark.
Things to see:
• Christiania (Little Amsterdam)
• Queens Palace
• Little Mermain
• Reffen (see Hop on Hop off above
• Kissing Bridge
• Canal Boat Ride (See Hop-on-Hop-off above)
• Carlsberg Brewery (was closed being remodeled when we were there)
• Malmo Sweden (acroos a bridge – you can take train)
• Botanical Gardens
• Rosenborg castle (across from Botanical Gardens)
• Tivoli Gardens (amusement Park)
• Central Train Station with its clock

Title: Ibsens Hotel – Copenhagen Denmark
Country: Denmark
Address: Vendersgade 23 1363 København (Copenhagen, Denmark)
Phone: 33 13 19 13
Hotel class: 3-star hotel
The Ibsens Hotel is a wonderful hotel to stay in Copenhagen, Denmark. The location is perfect and is a 19-minute walk from the Copenhagen Central Train station, Tivoli Park and the Hop-On-Hop-Off Busses. It is also only a 6-minute walk from Norreport Metro Station (Closer from airport than the Train Station). It is also a 7-minute walk from the wonderful Copenhagen Botanical Gardens.
Take the Stromma “City Sightseeing” Hop-On-Hop-Off buses and boat tour”. We were given a discount in April that gave us 3 bus lines plus the boat for 48 hours at a price of $77.72 for 2 people. This gave us unlimited use of Red (Mermaid Tour), Purple (Christiania Tour), Green (Carlsberg Tour) and Blue (boat Tour) lines for 2 days. We were able to see all of Copenhagen on these lines and then use them to go to places we wanted to explore more.
The hotel has very friendly and helpful staff that loves to help you with your every need. They provided a free wine or beer each evening of your stay. There is a wonderful outdoor patio with seats and benches in the sun or shade. We brought a bottle of wine and a picnic outside several times during our stay.
The rooms were spacious for Europe, clean and accommodating. The hotel has two adjoining restaurants and offers breakfast (with some room rates or at a fixed charge). We found a wonderful bakery (Bageren I Nansensgade – Nansensgade 64 1366 Copenhagen Denmark) a block away that had coffee, espresso, cappuccino and breads & pastries. The price was extremely low for Copenhagen. There was also a pizzeria run by Italians from Italy across from the bakery. It is Pizzeria La Fiorita. We shared a small pizza and bottle of water for $10.
Eating in Copenhagen has been documented as very expensive. Most restaurants are more expensive than big cities in the states but you can find places on a budget that are delicious and convenient. We also found markets and supermarkets to buy food and snacks and wine to take back to the hotel and eat in the courtyard. Another not to miss place to eat, more expensive but worth it, is Reffen in Christiania. Get off the purple Christiania bus at stop #37. It is a .5 to .75 mile walk but there are good signs so you will not get lost. This is an extremely unique area to eat. There are shipping containers turned into restaurants. You order from the vendor you want and find a seat or table to enjoy your food. There is plenty of beer & wine as well as all kinds of ethnic foods. There also is ice cream!
We were able to walk to most places from the hotel. Other places you can take metro or Hop-On-Hop-Off busses. The hotel has a series of tower rooms, one per floor, that are suite upgrades. This is hotel is a great place to use as a central place for touring Copenhagen or as a leisurely day in the courtyard to rest your tired feet. The hotel is a block from the water where you can see fabulous sunsets with the locals. You can also run with the staff each morning.

Denmark: DSB 'ME' class diesel locos at Osterport Station
Three clips showing DSB 'ME' class diesel locos in action working passenger services at Osterport Station, Copenhagen. Clips were taken from the adjacent 'Hotel Osterport'.
Clip 1 - 1526 Leaves Osterport Station with the 1447 Osterport to Holbaek passenger service. Recorded 7th July 2016.
Clip 2 (1:00) - 1532 powering from the rear arrives with the 0548 from Nykobing Falster. 1519 patiently waits in the platform ready to form the 0738 to Kalundborg. Recorded 8th July 2016.
Clip 3 (2:07) - 1532 leaves with the 0758 Osterport to Nykobing Falster passenger service. Recorded 8th July 2016.
DSB, an abbreviation of Danske Statsbaner (Danish State Railways), is the largest Danish train operating company, and the largest in Scandinavia. While DSB is responsible for passenger train operation on most of the Danish railways, goods transport and railway maintenance are outside its scope. DSB runs a commuter rail system, called S-train, in the area around the Danish capital, Copenhagen, that connects the different areas and suburbs in the greater metropolitan area. DSB also operates some trains in Sweden.
DSB was founded in 1885 when the state-owned companies De jysk-fynske Statsbaner and De sjællandske Statsbaner merged.

The DSB class ME are a series of diesel-electric locomotives, introduced in 1981. A total of 37 units were built, all by the German factory Henschel for the Danish State Railways (DSB). They were among the very first AC drive locomotives in serial production.
The locomotives were designed to haul the more heavy regional services in Sjælland, Denmark, in the early 1980s, replacing much of the old rolling stock in use at the time.
The first unit, 1501 arrived in 1981 after many years of delay.[citation needed] Three years later, in 1983, DSB had received a total of 30 units.[citation needed] Although there had been some serious trouble with the locomotives, DSB found a solution on the problems, and an additional seven units were delivered.
All the ME locomotives remain in service in 2014, with the exception of one unit which was scrapped after a fire. However, it is expected that the ME locomotives and the last passenger coaches in service will be replaced by IC3 trainsets when the IC4 trainsets take over intercity services.
Currently the units are painted in DSB's blue/red livery. The locos are technically very identical to the NSB Di4.

Østerport Station is a main line and S-train railway station in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is located between the districts of Indre By and Østerbro, and is named for the historic Østerport city gate, near the original location of which it is located.
The station is served by EuroCity services to international destinations, some InterCity services across Denmark, regular and frequent regional train services to and from Zealand and southern Sweden, as well as commuter rail services on the S-train network. By 2019, the service will include the Copenhagen Metro as well (future lines M3 and M4).
The station opened in 1897 as the terminus of the Coast Line from Copenhagen to Helsingør. The station is used by approximately 30,000 passengers each day.
-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
Copenhagen is the capital and most populated city of Denmark.
The greater Copenhagen area has a very well established transportation infrastructure making it a hub in Northern Europe. Copenhagen Airport, opened in 1925, is Scandinavia's largest airport, located in Kastrup on the island of Amager. It is connected to the city centre by metro and main line railway services.
The Copenhagen S-Train, Copenhagen Metro and the regional train networks are used by about half of the city's passengers, the remainder using bus services. Nørreport Station near the city centre serves passengers travelling by main-line rail, S-train, regional train, metro and bus. Some 750,000 passengers make use of public transport facilities every day. Copenhagen Central Station is the hub of the DSB railway network serving Denmark and international destinations.

Besides the flowers and the Lake, you'll see:
- Front: The 3rd St.George Frigate, after the first two sank, as a floating restaurant,
- Across the Lake: Det Gyldne Tårn, or the golden tower, 63m high speedy rise and fall, if you want to brag about how though you are. A wonderful view, if you can keep your eyes open!
- Across the Lake: Vertigo, if you want to wildly pilot yourself in a 5G experience. Don't think about your body weight increasing to 5 times, while speeding at 100km/h, at 360¤ successive turns.
Notice the pigeons and ducks, did not wink an eye when i was less than half a meter from them, so used to the public.

Nørreport Station is an S-train, Copenhagen Metro and mainline railway station located in the Indre By district of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is the busiest railway station in the country, serving 165,000 people daily. The entire station is underground, with three pairs of platforms: one for S-trains, one for intercity trains and one for the Metro. The station is located on the Boulevard Line of the S-train and mainline network.
Located in fare zone 1, it serves lines M1 and M2 of the Metro, most S-train lines, regional trains to Helsingør, intercity trains to Esbjerg and international trains to Malmö and Gothenburg, Sweden, and trains to other places, but not express trains. The station has bicycle parking facilities, and bicycles are allowed on board the trains, but not during rush hours.

Amager Strandpark, København - Amager Beach Park - Copenhagen attractions- Strand i København
Amager Strandpark or Amager Beach as it is called in English is a public beach and park area located just outside Copenhagen city center on the Island of Amager (connected to Copenhagen by bridges). Amager Beach is a blue flag beach (The Blue Flag is a certification by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) that a beach or marina meets its stringent standards.). Amager Strand offers visitors 4.6 kilometers of beach to walk on and in 2005 an artificial island was also added to this beach park.
Swimming is allowed everywhere on Amager Beach, but at ones own risk, even if there is a Lifesaver on duty. Swimming is allowed everywhere on Amager Beach, but at ones own risk, even if there is a Lifesaver on duty. Picknicking and BBQ (Grilling) are allowed on Amager Beach but you are urged to show consideration to other people using the beach facilities. Bonfires are not allowed on Amager Beach although special requests can be made for special events such as Sankt Hans Aften (The Summer Solstice).
When watching this video look out for the Middelgrunden wind farm (windmill farm for wind energy )which can be seen on the horizon. Also watch out for the Finnair and SAS passenger aircraft landing at Copenhagen Airport and also look out for the big red Ship from the KESS shipping company (K Line European Sea Highway Services) which is one of Europe's major short sea operators catering to the needs of car manufacturers.
Entrance to Amager Strandpark is free and this beach is easily reached from the city by Metro train. Get off the Metro at Ørsted Station or Amager Strandpark Station.
