Red Cliffs Desert Spring Preserve - Hike with water, canyons, indian grounds and dinosaur tracks
The Red Cliffs National Conservation Area is a 44,724-acre National Conservation Area located in southwest Utah near St. George at the northeastern-most edge of the Mojave Desert. To get to this hike, take the exit 22 (Leeds) off I-15, just north of Hurricane Utah.
DAY-HIKING - The Red Cliffs Recreational Area in Utah
In this hike, in June of 2018, my daughter and I decided to go check it out at the last minute on a Monday. I like hiking in the middle of the week when places are a little less crowded. It was around lunchtime when we arrived so; we ate before we started walking.
The Red Cliffs National Conservation Area is located in the southwest of Utah, north of Saint George and west of Leeds, right off of I-15. It is beautiful conservation with beautiful rock formations and even some water features. Red Cliffs offers campgrounds and also some non-technical trails which makes it very accessible.
Our destination was the waterfall and the water pools that we find at the end of the trail. Unfortunately, when we got there, all the water was gone. I'm not sure why but we were sad. We were also hot and thirsty, so we rested for a while and hiked back to the trail-head. Sometimes hiking can be disappointing if you have a destination to get. However, just the fact that we had gone hiking somewhere already made my day and everything after that got so much better :-)

DAY-HIKING: The Amazing Colors of The Red Cliffs Trail
In this video, my son, daughter and I went for a day-hike to the beautiful Red Cliffs Trail at the Red Cliff National Conservation Area.
The red cliff is a small but beautiful area, and the best time to visit is in the Spring where the pools are replenished with water melted from the snow. It has impressive rock formations that contrast beautifully with the water. This trail is considered easy, and there is minimal elevation gain.
We visited it during Spring break, and it was hectic. Perhaps a regular weekday would have been a little better regarding the number of people there and available parking space. Nevertheless, it was a fantastic day, and we enjoyed every minute of this hike. I highly recommend it!

FALL CAMPING & HIKING: The Amazing Formations of Candy Cliffs at Yant Flat Trail
In this video, my daughter and I went for overnight camping and hiking adventure to see the Candy Cliffs at the Yant Flat Trail near in Leeds, Utah. It is fall season and the temperatures in this desert vegetation area range from 65F high to 32F Low.
The Candy Cliffs are a swirling, patterned type of sandstone formations area, in a great variety of colors, eroded into cliffs, buttes and ravines; across the southern part of the Pine Valley Mountains and part of the beautiful Dixie National Forest. You can find this cliff at the end of the Yant Flat Trail near Saint George, which is approximately 3.5 miles long out and back (round trip) and the elevation is near 5,400 feet. The trail to get to the cliffs has very little elevation change but adventuring through the cliffs can be a bit challenging and steep.
We arrived at the trailhead around noon and hiked the trail for about one hour until we reached the cliffs. It was a surprising change of scenery. One minute you are on a regular path, and the next minute you are at the edge of this beautiful cliffs with some exquisite rock formations and some climbing to do. So we carefully descended the rocks until we reached the other side. It was beautiful, and we spent nearly three hours checking out the place.
When it came time to get back, we had to go through the same path except it was uphill this time and after so much huffing and puffing, we got back up on the trail. After our hike, we found a dispersed area to camp, made dinner, watched some offline videos in our tent and went to sleep. This trip was a fantastic trip and one that I recommend for this fall season or Spring.

Red Cliffs, near St. George Utah
This is a short video of Red Cliffs Canyon near St. George Utah. I remembered the drone was in land mode instead of return to home. I panic and turned around to get it closer before switching modes. I should of headed deeper into the canyon after switching the modes.

Canyoneering Yankee Doodle Canyon - Leeds Utah, June 2013
Early In June a group of us decided to hike the well known Yankee Doodle Canyon. This little gem is near Zion National Park. Yankee Doodle is rated 3B I. It has quick access to the trail head, and a short exit. THis canyon is a great canyon for those who are new to the sport. We had a great time. The canyon has a dramatic start with a really fun rappel. The rest of the canyon has many more fun obstacles and down climbs.

Red Cliffs - Southern Utah
Red Cliffs in Southern Utah
From St. George -- go north on I-15, take the Zion/Hurricane exit.
Take a left at the first light and follow that frontage road along I-15 north. It will turn into gravel for a couple miles.
Go left under the narrow road underneath I-15, take a left at the T and then drive up into Red Cliffs campground (take $5 for the daily fee). Park in the camp ground and begin the hike (park before you start the loop to the right).
It is an easy and beautiful desert hike for 15 minutes -- then you get into the good stuff. Take your time and explore.
