Mankato History: Red Jacket Trail Bridge
Dr. Jesse Baker has studied the greater Mankato area for many years. In 2013 he was presented with the Odyssey award for his contributions as a first year professor. In this exclusive video, Dr. Baker shares some facts about one of Mankato's scenic bridges.
Red Jacket Bridge Reconstruction
In September, 2010, a severe flooding event sent large pieces of debris hurtling down the LeSueur River in Mankato, Minnesota. The flood-borne debris knocked a large hole in one of the piers that supports the Red Jacket Trestle Bridge, causing unsafe conditions for the traveling public. As a result, Blue Earth County hired engineering firm Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. (SEH) to help reconstruct the bridge, which serves as a popular multi-use trail crossing over the LeSueur River.

Mankato 2018: Big mid-April Snowstorm
Here are some scenes from a major snowstorm that hit Mankato, Minnesota on Saturday, April 14, 2018. A mid-April snowstorm is rare but not surprising. Minnesota weather tends to be tickled and unpredictable. This video features the music of Amy Kortuem, a harpist and one of our areas most well-known musicians. The music fits the falling snowflakes, the rushing winds, and the building snowdrifts. Purchase Amy's CD All Hayle to the Days, which includes Carol from an Irish Cabin
Mankato River Ramble 2013
The 3rd Mankato River Ramble, Mankato, Minnesota, Sunday, October 6th, 2013. Almost 1,400 people signed up for the event. Three different ride options included a 42 mile ride to Lake Crystal and back, a 26 mile pie run to the Rapidan Dam Store and back, and a short 12 mile ride to Minneopa State Park and back. The event was a blast, despite temperatures in the low 50's and intermittent rain. Thanks to Tom Engstrom, organizer of the event, sponsors Mankato Clinic and The Orthopaedic & Fracture Clinic, numerous other community sponsors, and about 100 volunteers. Local bike shops provided staff that assisted riders in need of repair help with their bikes. Finally, thanks go to the Greater Mankato Bike and Walk Advocates and Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota.
