The Red Lake, Imotski, Croatia
The Red Lake is one of the deepest pits of the Dinaric karst. Crveno jezero (Red Lake) is named after the red rocks at the edge of the lake. This karstic cave is 528 m high, and it is about 281m deep, which, according to some data, could be the deepest lake in the whole of Europe. Crveno jezero (Red lake) is difficult to access due to the steep cliffs that surround it.

Synopsis
Three extreme sports teams are meeting in Croatia for another feat: jumping into a giant crater with ropes and parachutes.
The Red Lake site in Imotski, an impressive 400-metre diameter, 200-metre high sinkhole overlooking a lake more than 250 metres deep, becomes the ideal playground for members of Pyrenaline (France), SDD (France) and Rock'n'Rope (Ukraine), experts in Rope Jump, Base Jump and Slackline.
Revisited by Baraka Flims' mischievous and imaginative eye, the expedition turns into an improbable competition, with rules as incoherent as they are funny.

THE MOST BIZARRE FOOTBALL MATCH IN EUROPE - Modro Jezero Imotski - Croatia HD!
Imotski (Croatia) has two football stadiums, one on top the cliffs of Blue Lake (Modro Jezero) that's visible every day and the views from the stadium are some of the best on the Planet. But there are times when Blue Lake dries up completely and a bizarre football match takes place on the bottom of the dried up lake, with again, spectacular views of the massive cliffs of Blue Lake. This is a rare sight to see and the window of opportunity to play this football match is extremely small, because of the state of the ground and the possibility of rainfall. The last match was played in 2011, with the always same opponents, The Elves (Vilenjaci) and The Werewolves (Vukodlaci). The match ended in a draw 2: 2, as it's the rule with 400+ spectators making the walk to the bottom for this bizarre and downright funny football match.

One of the largest sinkholes lakes in the world (The Red Lake, Imotski, Croatia)
This weekend we made a trip to The Red Lake in Imotski, Croatia. It's one of the largest sinkhole lakes in the world.
Fun fact about the red lake is that is ALMOST impossible to throw a stone into the water and it's almost impossible to go down to the lake since there are no paths that lead down to the lake...
[LEGEND]
You don’t need the scientific explanation to admire the Red Lake. In fact, centuries ago, people had only folk tales about its origin. They passed them down as a way to marvel at its chilling beauty.
The story of Gavan is still alive and it goes… Rich man Gavan lived by the edge of the Red Lake. Both him and his wife Gavanica were mean and greedy. One night an angel visited them. But when he begged them for some food and water, Gavanica sent him away. At that moment, the earth collapsed into an abyss, dragging down Gavan’s castle with it.
So there you have another explanation of how the Red Lake came to be. You can choose whichever one you like.

Red Lake - Imotski (Crveno jezero)
Red Lake (Croatian: Crveno jezero) is a sinkhole containing a karst lake near the city of Imotski, Croatia. It is known for its numerous caves and remarkably high cliffs, reaching over 241 metres above normal water level and continuing below the water level. The total explored depth of this sinkhole is approximately 530 metres with a volume of roughly 25–30 million cubic meters, thus it is the third largest sinkhole in the world.Water drains out of the basin through underground waterways that descend below the level of the lake floor.
The sinkhole is named after the reddish-brown color of the surrounding cliffs, colored by iron oxides.
Like the nearby Blue Lake, it is presumed that the lake emerged when the ceiling of a large cave hall collapsed.
The lake is inhabited with endemic and endangered spotted minnow (Delminichthys adspersus). In the dry period of the year, this fish can be occasionally seen in surrounding springs, rivers and lakes, suggesting that there is an underground connection between Red Lake and other water bodies.
At the 13th International Congress of Speleology, new findings were revealed. An inflow cave-shaped canal that measured approximately 30 x 30 meters was discovered in the eastern part of the lake at a depth of 175 meters.

***Blue Lake***
(Croatian: Modro jezero) is a karst lake located near Imotski in southern Croatia. Like the nearby Red Lake, it lies in a deep sinkhole possibly formed by the collapse of an enormous underground cave. The total depth from the upper rim is around 220 meters, while water depth varies with season. In spring, when the snow from surrounding mountains melts, it can reach 90 m, and in 1914 it reached 114 m, overflowing the southern rim. The lake is a popular destination for hiking and sight-seeing.
Maximum dimensions of the lake are around 800×500 m, but they significantly vary due to big changes in the water level. At the end of the summer the lake may completely disappear.
In 1907 a road was built descending to the lake. In 1942, an earthquake caused a large landfall resulting in reduction of the lake's depth.
