The Kizil Kule (Red Tower) is a historical tower in the Turkish city of Alanya. The 33 metre (108-foot) high brick building stands at the harbor below the castle, and contains the municipal ethnographic museum. The building is considered to be the symbol of the city, and is even used on the city's flag.
Construction of the building began in the early reign of the Anatolian Seljuq Sultan Ala ad-Din Kay Qubadh I and was completed in 1226. The sultan brought the accomplished architect Ebu Ali Reha from Aleppo, Syria to Alanya to complete the building.
The octagonal red brick tower protects the Tersane (shipyard) which dates from 1221. The name derives from the more red color brick used in its construction.
The building itself is 33 m (108 ft) high and 12.5 m (41 ft) wide. It remains one of the finest examples of medieval military architecture, and is the best preserved Seljuk building in the city.
In 1979 the city opened the Ethnographic Museum of Alanya inside of the tower. Besides providing visitors with a history of the tower and town, the museum gives attention to the heraldry, in particular the Seljuq double headed eagle that is used on the city flag.
Alanya is a beach resort city on the southern coast of Turkey.

This 360/3D video, shows you the inside, stairs and the top of the Red Tower in Alanya, Turkey. This tower was build a long, long time ago, to protect the harbor of Alanya. Now it's a tourist attraction which you can't miss due to it's red colored stones. Downstairs is a permanent exhibition with models, the history and function of this tower. Upstairs it's open, very authentic and the view on the harbor is really great. Certainly worth the 58 steps up! A combination ticket with the old Shipyard and a cave will only cost you 10 TL. which is about Euro 2,50. Great views, visit it when you can! The Red Tower or Kizil Kule was built in the 13th century. Construction began during the reign of the Anatolian Seljuq Sultan Ala ad-Din Kay Qubadh and was completed in 1226. Red coloured brick was used in the construction, hence it's name 'red tower.'
The tower is 33 metres high and 12.5 metres wide. It is one of the finest pieces of architecture in Alanya. The Turkish flag is positioned at the top of the tower and inside the tower is a small museum displaying a number of items and information showing the history of the tower and parts of the town.
