Artist Wayne has just finished a painting which is influenced by his trip to Northern Queensland...especially the beautiful country town of Aramac.
Aramac is a small town in Central West Queensland, Australia, lying 68 kilometres north of Barcaldine. It is situated on Aramac Creek, which flows into the Thomson River 60 kilometres west of town.
The predominant industry is grazing. The town water for Aramac is supplied from two bores connecting into the Great Artesian Basin.

During this time Stephanie Burns has exhibited professionally as an artist, published a magazine, edited several books on art, founded and run a not-for-profit art foundation and organised lectures and published pamphlets of lectures by people who are experts in their fields within the arts internationally.
These lectures were held at institutions such as The Tate Gallery and The Courtauld Institute of Art in London. As a professional artist Stephanie Burns has won a number of awards and produced art works for seventeen solo exhibitions and over seventy group exhibitions in Britain and Australia.
Her works have been in major prizes such as the Fleurieu Art Prize, the Blake prize, Sculpture by the Sea in Bondi, the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London and art fairs in London and throughout Australia. As a commercial art gallery director she curated over a hundred exhibitions, as an art lecturer Stephanie Burns taught at the National Art School in Sydney.
Painting icons and natural beauty from around the world – of land, sky and water – is something I will continue to explore and gain inspiration from. I love incredible architecture juxtaposed with nature and want to paint more iconic buildings and swimming pools set against the natural world. I am old enough to have seen the world change, I paint the world as it is with the knowledge of what it has been and the fear of what will it will become ecologically. My Art as Fabric business is all about making beautiful patterns and designs for people to enjoy as they go about their everyday lives. A simple throw cushion with one of my island paintings, or my overheads of icons such as Sydney Opera House and Bondi Beach can add colour and light to the everyday and I consult with fashion designers to make beautiful fabrics for their collections. And for those people who already know and love these images, my icon-inspired designs perhaps provide an opportunity to hold something cherished ‘just a little bit closer’. - Stephanie Burns

Internet Scamming in Ghana
Fraudsters in Ghana show us how they use internet scams to steal thousands of dollars from unsuspecting victims all over the globe.
--
While Nigeria's 401 scammers may have written the book on West African internet fraud, their shtick looks like Compuserve compared to what's going on in Ghana. Unsatisfied with the meager winnings from emailing thousands of random Westerners in hopes of convincing one poor sap they're the treasurer of the Ivory Coast, Ghana's scammers decided to stack the odds in their favor the old-fashioned way—witchcraft.
Taking a page from cyberpunk, traditional West African Juju priests adapted their services to the needs of the information age and started leading down-on-their-luck internet scammers through strange and costly rituals designed to increase their powers of persuasion and make their emails irresistible to greedy Americans. And so Sakawa was born.
Now not only is Sakawa Ghana's most popular youth activity and one of its biggest underground economies, it's a full-blown national phenomenon. Sakawa has its own tunes, clothing brands, Sakawasploitation flicks, and even a metastatic backlash from Christian preachers and the press. When we were in Accra over the summer it was impossible to walk more than 10 feet without seeing the word Sakawa in blood-red Misfits letters on a poster or tabloid, often accompanied by bone-chilling horrors of the photoshopped variety.
The government is freaked out because Sakawa is threatening Ghana's business reputation, the Christians are freaked out because they're losing money to the Juju priests, the press is freaked out because being freaked out is what sells papers, and the public is freaked out because their government, preacher, and media are all telling them they should be. All the while the Sakawa boys are living the high life and racking up debts to the spirit world, just waiting for the axe to fall.

Rouse Visiting Artist Lecture: Christo
Christo and Jeanne-Claude met in Paris in 1958, not long after their education at the National Academy of Art in Bulgaria and the University of Tunis, respectively. Their first project was Stacked Oil Barrels and Dockside Packages (1961) in Cologne Harbor, but perhaps their most renowned project was Wrapped Reichstag (1995) in Berlin, which swathed the iconic capital building in fabric for fourteen days. Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s overt, site-specific landscape interventions have evolved from Christo’s early works. Smaller sculptural pieces that are key to his portfolio, such as wrapped cans, bottles, crates, suggestive forms, and indoor installations reveal an interest in concealment, but also in the dimensional qualities of shapes in an environment and in the process itself. It is no surprise that in a caption to a chronological list of projects on their website, the artists refer to “software” and “hardware” periods: preparation and imagination on the one hand, physical execution on the other. The Floating Piers, Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s most recent finished work, was conceived in 1970 yet came to fruition only in the summer of 2016. The 16-meter-wide shimmering walkways of this project, constructed on Lake Iseo, Italy, were open and free for the public to traverse. Christo will discuss this work in his lecture, along with two upcoming projects: Over the River, for the Arkansas River in Colorado, and The Mastaba, for the United Arab Emirates. Both were planned with his wife and partner Jeanne-Claude. Notwithstanding her death in 2009, Christo continues to fundamentally credit Jeanne-Claude in his projects.

Q&A is a television discussion program that focuses mostly on politics but ranges across all of the big issues that set Australians thinking, talking and debating.
It is driven by interaction: Q&A provides a rare opportunity for Australian citizens to directly question and hold to account politicians and key opinion leaders in a national public forum and Q&A is broadcast live so that not only the studio audience but also the wider audience can get involved.
We aim to create a discussion that is constructive, that reflects a diverse range of views and that provides a safe environment where people can respectfully discuss their differences.
It’s impossible to represent every view on a single panel or in one audience but we’re committed to giving participants a fair go.
In order to be as inclusive and diverse as possible, the program is presented from a range of locations around the country and all Australians are encouraged to get involved through social media as well as by joining the audience.
This is an official Australian Broadcasting Corporation YouTube channel.

Christo: The Floating Piers and Work in Progress
Christo is a sculptor known for co-creating large scale ephemeral works worldwide with his longtime artistic partner and wife, Jeanne-Claude (1935-2009). Over the span of his 60-year career, Christo and Jeanne-Claude have created many public works involving the exterior wrapping of buildings, museums, and public spaces in canvas, tarp, and other materials. Oil barrels have also featured prominently in the couple’s work, selected for their “sculptural effect and low cost.” Their most recent U.S. project, The Gates (completed in 2005), featured 7,503 rectangular arches draped in saffron fabric across New York City’s Central Park. While many speculate on the specific meaning of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s work, throughout their career, the artists have shunned the idea that their creative work seeks to convey deeper meanings, insisting that they create work to evoke a purely visceral emotional response using visual aesthetic. However, Christo speaks of the public locations of their installations in decidedly democratic terms. “Nobody can buy our projects. Nobody can sell tickets to experience our projects. Freedom is the enemy of possession and possession is equal to permanence. That is why our projects cannot remain and must go away forever. Our projects are ‘once in a lifetime’ and ‘once upon a time.’”
This program is presented in partnership with the University of Michigan Museum of Art on the occasion of the UMMA exhibition Victors for Art: Michigan’s Alumni Collectors — Part II: Abstraction, with additional support from the Weiser Center for Emerging Democracies.
