Day 115 - “Redditt Reel” - Patti Kusturok’s 364 Days of Fiddle Tunes

I wrote this tune for my dad when I was in my late teens. Because his name was John, I wanted to let him pick a name for the tune rather than simply call it John’s Breakdown or something generic like that. Dad’s hometown was Redditt, ON, a tiny little railroad town in the beautiful Canadian Shield, a few miles up the road from Kenora. There’s a legion and that’s about it nowadays in Redditt. There‘s great fishing in the many nearby lakes though, and of course the world famous “Bottle House.” I have many memories of that town, and it will always hold a special place in my heart.

Today dad would’ve turned 88. We probably would’ve had breakfast at the Sals (Salisbury House) which he would’ve NEVER let me buy, and maybe played some games of crib (which I would’ve lost.) I would’ve given him a card with scratch tickets and some Lotto Max and he’d get “mad” at me for “spending all that money.”

I miss him. ❤️
