Redlands Kayak Tours Coochie August 2016

Coochiemudlo Island is located within Redland City in South-East Queensland, between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The island lies in Moreton Bay, where its shallow beaches and mangroves are protected from the breakers of the South Pacific.The tour departs from Les Moore Park located on Wilson Esplanade, Victoria Point. A short 15min paddle across the water to the island and hugging the shore line we kayak to Morwong Beach. A short break to stretch the legs and we are then on our way around to the main beach. At Main beach there are toilet facilities if needed and a chance to get a Merlot Coffee from the Red Rock Café. We then head back to the main land. The total distance covered is approx. 10km. We often see Turtles on this trip and if you are lucky somtimes Dugongs. The Dugongs were once mistaken for mermaids by sailors of days gone by.

Join us on a spectacular half day tour leaving from the beach at Les Moore Park, Wilson Esplanade, Victoria Point. Kayak in the bay and circumnavigate Coochiemudlo Island.

Tony our expert tour guide will share with you some of the history of the region.

The trip starts from the beach and heads across the waters to the northern beach of Coochiemudlo Island for 1.5hours where we will indulged in a hearty and fresh morning tea as well as your choice of tea, coffee, juice or water.

After a 15 min morning tea break you will be refreshed and ready to paddle around the bay to Victoria Point. You will discover another side of the bay, overlooking Stradbroke Island. The return is also a 1.5 hour paddle

Today we venture out on the Next Gen 10 Pro Fishing Kayak in the bay near Victoria Point boat jetty. I caught a decent 50cm flathead on a pink soft plastic and light jighead.

Coochiemudlo Island

Coochiemudlo Island is located within the Redland Shire in South-East Queensland, between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. The island lies in Moreton Bay, where it's shallow beaches and mangroves are protected from the breakers of the South Pacific. The island is easily reached by a short ferry trip from Victoria Point. Although Coochie, as the island is known locally, is only 5 square kilometres in size, it boasts more than 4 Km of beautiful safe beaches, which are ideal for the kids. It has been called : 'the jewel of Moreton Bay'. The name 'Coochiemudlo' refers to the red rock pictured above. This dominant feature makes the island easily recogniseable when seen from the mainland. Inspite of 'mud' appearing in the name, there is only a little mangrove - the rest is beach.
