Redwood Valley Railway, East Bay District, Oakland CA area Jan 25, 2019
15 inch gauge. Redwood Valley Railway of the Tilden Park Steam Trains in the East Bay Regional Park District. I took this video as I road the rails on Jan.25, 2019.
MINIATURE Steam Train: Redwood Valley Railway
All Aboard! Let's head to the bay area of California for a look at a very realistic miniature train! The Redwood Valley Railway runs miniature steam trains through the redwood trees in the hills above Berkeley, California. We'll watch their 4-6-0 locomotive number 11 pull a train full of happy passengers through Tilden Park. The entire railway is a re-creation of many steam railways in the United States as they were toward the end of the 19th century with many of their cars using the same blueprints as the full sized originals.

Wildfires whipped by powerful winds swept through California wine country Monday, killing at least 10 people, destroying 1,500 homes and businesses and sending thousands fleeing as flames raged unchecked through high-end resorts, grocery stores and tree-lined neighborhoods.
As he fled through the ember-strewn streets of his neighborhood in Santa Rosa, Jeff Okrepkie knew it was probably the last time he would see his home of the past five years standing.
His worst fears were confirmed Monday morning, when a friend sent him a photo of what was left: a smoldering heap of burnt metal and debris.
We live in the valley, where it's concrete and strip malls and hotels and supermarkets, Okrepkie said. The last thing you think is a forest fire is going to come and wipe us out.
At least 10 people died and two were seriously injured in the blazes that started on Sunday, fire officials said.
The flames were burning at explosive rates because of 50 mph winds, said Ken Pimlott, director of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
Fourteen large fires were burning, spread over a 200-mile region north of San Francisco from Napa in the south to Redding in the north. Gov. Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency in Napa, Sonoma and Yuba counties.
It was unusual to have so many fires take off at the same time, fire officials said, though October has generally been the most destructive time of year for California wildfires.
The ferocity of the flames forced authorities to focus primarily on getting people out safely, even if it meant abandoning structures to the fire. The fire area covered more than 100 square miles (160 square kilometers) over eight counties.
Elsewhere in the state, a fire churning through canyons in hilly neighborhoods of Orange County burned multiple homes and forced residents of about 1,000 homes to evacuate.
Some of the largest blazes were in Napa and Sonoma counties, home to dozens of wineries that attract tourists from around the world. They sent smoke as far south as San Francisco, about 60 miles (96 kilometers) away. What caused the blazes was not known.
Fires also burned in Yuba, Butte and Nevada counties — all north of the state capital.
The inferno blackened miles along one of the main gateways into wine country, State Highway 12 into Sonoma County. Wooden fence posts and guard rails burned fiercely. Thick smoke roiled from one winery, JR Cohn.
The fires also damaged the Silverado Resort in Napa and a Hilton hotel in Santa Rosa, the largest city in the fire area, with a population of about 175,000.
Kim Hoe, a 33-year-old tech worker from Penang, Malaysia, was staying at the Hilton Sonoma Wine Country, which was gutted by flames. He said the power went out around 1 a.m., and he and his colleagues started packing up when someone knocked on the door and told them to run.
We just had to run and run. It was full of smoke. We could barely breathe. It was dangerous, Hoe said.
They returned in the morning to find the hotel had been destroyed along with most of their possessions. Hoe was relieved he had taken his passport and a few essential items.
Santa Rosa lost a Kmart, restaurants and an unknown number of businesses and homes. The blaze shut down schools and forced more than 200 patients at two city hospitals to evacuate.
Firefighters rushed to a state home f

Bella and Lola Visit Oceano Dunes
Aluminum-clad and gleaming, Airstream trailers are a throwback to a Golden Age of road-tripping that has inspired roadside envy ever since. You could splurge on one of your own, or you can rent one to meander your way along the coast. Lola and I did just that for a trip we took up to California wine country and decided to spend a day exploring the dunes in Oceano, California on the way back.
Oceana is just a few hours north of Los Angeles and for quite some time we’d been hearing about sand dunes that we could run around in and boy, was it super fun once we got there. We met a cute boy dog named Oscar, who was taking his Mom for a walk. Then Lola and I met a couple of kids we couldn't understand because they only spoke German, so we pretended they were Hansel and Gretel and made up a a whole story about them. Mostly, we ran around in the dunes like we characters from the movie Assassin’s Creed or The Mummy.
Little did we know that in 1923, Cecil. B. DeMille built the largest movie set in history for his epic film, The Ten Commandments, in the dunes near here. There’s a pretty fascinating exhibit featuring artifacts left over from the movie at The Dunes Center ( in Guadalupe, CA. It's worth a visit if you're interested in traveling around California's Central Coast and exploring the dunes.
The Oceano dunes are actually only a small part of the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dune System which is recognized by scientists and conservationists as the finest, most extensive coastal dunes remaining in California. The Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes area is home to a surprisingly wide range of plant and animal life. Those who take the time to explore will see wildflowers, countless small mammals and insects, a variety of small birds at the water's edge and hawks, owls, pelicans, or gulls flying overhead.
American Indians were the original inhabitants of the area, but during the 1930's and 40's, the dunes were home to a group of free thinking people that included mystics, nudists, artists, writers, and hermits. They called themselves Dunites and they believed that Oceano Dunes were one of the centers of creative energy in California. Seek out the solitude of the dunes and perhaps you too, will feel the creative forces that the Dunites spoke about.
The prevailing winds blow in from the ocean, pushing sand particles up into wave-like crests. The dunes undulate for 18 miles along the central coasts shoreline, stretching from Pismo State Beach to Point Sal. A steady wind sweeps over them, sculpting sand into towering peaks that stretch 500 feet into the sky. Tall grasses and shrubs with bright yellow flowers that look like daisies, are scattered across the dunes. As the sun sets, sapphire blue waves crash on white sand beaches, under skies splashed with pink, orange and purple.
It's easy to see why Cecil B. DeMille chose this dramatic windswept setting for his film. Hope you enjoy the one we made, too.
Love,
Lil’ Bella and Lola

San Francisco Bay Area
The San Francisco Bay Area, commonly known as the Bay Area, is a populated region that surrounds the San Francisco and San Pablo estuaries in Northern California, United States. The region encompasses the major cities and metropolitan areas of San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose, along with smaller urban and rural areas. The Bay Area's nine counties are Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma. Home to approximately 7.44 million people, the nine-county Bay Area contains many cities, towns, airports, and associated regional, state, and national parks, connected by a network of roads, highways, railroads, bridges, tunnels and commuter rail. The combined urban area of the region is the second-largest in California (after the Greater Los Angeles area), the fifth-largest in the United States, and the 56th-largest urban area in the world.
The United States Office of Management and Budget (OMB) does not use the nine-county definition of the San Francisco Bay Area. The OMB has designated a more extensive 12-county Combined Statistical Area (CSA) titled the San Jose-San Francisco-Oakland, CA Combined Statistical Area which also includes the three counties of San Joaquin, Santa Cruz, and San Benito that do not border San Francisco Bay, but are economically tied to the nine counties that do.

Our Mini Family Outing To Sonoma, CA (Sunday, November 4, 2012)
Watch in high quality (480p). In this video, it shows me and my family have a mini outing up north to Sonoma, CA. The drive was roughly around 2 hours or so. We left San Jose roughly before 2 p.m. and arrived to Sonoma/Eldridge, CA, our destination, at roughly past 3:45 p.m. PST.
The video shows it all. We traveled through other cities/towns such as Dublin, Walnut Creek, Martinez, Benicia and Vallejo. We crossed the Benicia Bridge to get to Vallejo. We also passed by the Discover Kingdom. It looked closed by the looks of it. Then by like 3:10 p.m. or so, we were then on California State Route 37, passing through the marshlands which was located around the northern shores of the San Pablo Bay. It was already around the Sonoma County.
We finally entered Sonoma Valley just before 3:25 p.m. We passed through beautiful vineyards and provinces. We were along California State Route 121, northbound. When we reached Eldridge, CA, there were large trees, all in full autumn color which was as stunningly beautiful sight. Our main destination was finally reached at the Sonoma Developmental Center in Eldridge, CA.
We also visited Auntie Betty's housing complex which was right by the center. (no footage allowed inside).
Then coming late afternoon, we left the area past 4:16 p.m. as the sun slowly sets in the west... Hope you guys enjoyed the ride! :)
(Filmed on Sunday, November 4, 2012 mostly around Sonoma County/Eldridge, CA, and of course the journey to and from our destination)

MVI_0432: GOogle Maps & AAROADS
San Francisco:
California 24 is the major east-west connection from the Walnut Creek/Concord area into the Oakland metropolitan area. Passing through the Caldecott Tunnel between Berkeley and Orinda, California 24 is slated to be widened to include a fourth tunnel bore. With that expansion, the freeway will be at least eight lanes wide at all times. The Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) tracks closely parallel California 24 for its entire length.
California 35 is Skyline Boulevard, following the ridge of mountains that form the backbone of the San Francisco Peninsula. It is largely a two-lane highway until it connects with Interstate 280, and then it becomes a four-lane divided highway as it enters San Francisco. The highway ends at its junction with California 1 (19th Avenue).
California 37 connects Novato with Vallejo via Sears Point along the north shore of San Pablo Bay. Although it is two lanes in spots, it is planned for upgrades due to traffic and safety issues.
California 77 is 42nd Avenue between Interstate 880 and California 185 (International Boulevard) in the vicinity of High Street in Oakland. The remainder of this route is unconstructed (and very unlikely to be constructed); it is anticipated to head northeast toward Moraga. It is unsigned.
California 84 is split into two parts. The western California 84 begins near San Gregorio at its junction with California 1 and connects the peninsula with the east bay via the Dumbarton Bridge. This segment ends at its junction with Interstate 580 in Pleasanton. The eastern segment of the highway follows the banks of the Sacramento River between Rio Vista (junction California 12) and Interstate 80 in West Sacramento. Plans call for a connection between these two segments, but a proposal to construct a toll facility along that alignment was dropped in the early 1990s due to its controversial nature.
California 85 provides an alternate route to busy U.S. 101 through Sunnyvale, Cupertino, Saratoga, and San Jose.
Unsigned California 93
California 93 is officially unconstructed, but an expressway along the approximate proposed alignment of California 93 is in place, along the Richmond Parkway. Although unsigned and maintained locally, the call box mileage on this parkway suggest that this route is indeed California 93, even though there are no shields or postmile markers. The Richmond Parkway begins at its junction with Interstate 580 in Richmond, then arcs northeast to meet Interstate 80. The proposed routing of California 93 continues east from Interstate 80 to San Pablo Reservoir then south toward Orinda and Moraga, but this route is very unlikely to be constructed.
Interstate 580 is something of a hybrid freeway corridor, having been cobbled together by a variety of routes. The number is very apropos, as it connects Interstate 5 with Interstate 80. Replacing much of the U.S. 50 corridor in the East Bay, Interstate 580 begins at a remote junction with Interstate 5 near Vernalis and south of Tracy. It retains a 70 mph speed limit until it meets Interstate 205 (and Historic U.S. 50) west of Tracy. From that junction, Interstate 580 parallels the original routing of U.S. 50 as it crosses the Altamont Pass, home to thousands of windmills that constantly generate electricity for the Golden State. The freeway is always busy, as it is the largest portal from the Central Valley (and Los Angeles!) into the Bay Area. Interstate 580 quickly meets Interstate 680, a prime arterial through the San Ramon Valley, connecting Concord and Walnut Creek with San Jose, then crosses into Castro Valley and Hayward. At Hayward, through traffic turns north toward Oakland, while Interstate 238 spurs northwest toward San Leandro. Interstate 580 meets Interstate 80 and Interstate 880 in the Maze interchange, where it used to end until the mid-1980s, when it was extended over former California 17 over the Richmond-San Rafael bridge. Interstate 580 is the only Interstate to serve Marin County, and it meets its western terminus at Junction U.S. 101 in San Rafael within earshot of Skywalker Ranch.
U.S. 101 enters the Bay Area from the south near San Jose, passing through that city as it creates a spine for the San Francisco Peninsula. Easily one of the busiest routes in the Bay Area, U.S. 101 is always full of traffic as it passes through Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Palo Alto (home of Stanford University), Redwood City, San Carlos, and Burlingame as the Bayshore Freeway. U.S. 101 enters the city of San Francisco as a freeway, but it quickly changes to a city street (Van Ness Avenue and Lombard Street) as it passes through the city. It again becomes a freeway as it crosses the Golden Gate Bridge and enters Marin County near Sausalito. U.S. 101 becomes the Redwood Highway en route to Sonoma County and the North Coast.
