Western Explorer TO THE MAX!
For those wondering what the Western Explorer drive in Northwest Tasmania is like - we did a loop from Stanley down to Zeehan and back (via Burnie on the way back) all in one day - a little over 400km in total. Much easier to drive, and much more scenic, than we anticipated. Well worth it!
(All to the tunes of Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men - probably our kids' favourite song!)
Tullah The Headmasters Cottage
The Headmasters Cottage at Tullah in Tasmania. Built in the early 1900's and once the home of Former Tasmanian Premier and Australian Prime Minister Joseph A Lyons. Now a popular AirBnb at Tullah with Bush walking, Hiking, Trout Fishing, Skiing and lots to see and do on the West Coast of Tasmania. Only a short drive to nearby Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair, Strahan, Rosebery, Zeehan & Queenstown.
FATMAN BARGE at CORINNA Pieman River
Lake Plimsoll 1
Continuing up the West Coast of Tasmania towards Tullah via the Lake Plimsoll road. Magnificent scenery, perfect weather, empty roads and good mates following makes for a perfect ride. Hope you don't mind the music but its better than wind noise in the camera.

The Tassie song
1
There ain’t no traffic lights in Stanley
Thats one thing I remember clearly
It felt like one big happy family
After another, hello in the street
Completely snowed in at Cradle Mountain
We needed Troopy to get us through
Much to the surprise of the ranger there
As if it wasn’t something new to him

We took that long & lonely drive, down the rugged west coast
We searched for ghosts on the streets of Balfour
We caught the Fatman Barge across the Pieman river there
Almost got stuck in a spray tunnel in Zeehan town
A little fisherman’s shack was a bed for the night in Strahan
Then Queenstown & Rosebery, & Montezuma Falls
Across the Great Lake & Central Tablelands we drove
Down to Hobart to camp another night
3
Like a little Melbourne, trendy cups of coffee flowing
We were looking for Thai restaurants, late into the night
Drove up Mt Wellington, but couldn’t see a bloody thing
Froze our fingers off then took the road back down
But we owned the beach at Coles Bay near Dolphins Park
And Wineglass bay, was ours for the drink
And then another night at the bay of fires, on the beach
The colour of the morning sky was beautiful

We made the trip up the hill to Ben Lomond
The Jacob’s ladder climb, is a very steep incline
We drove up to Tasmania’s highest pub
We were greeted by a very crisp, minus 9!
As our trip wound down we felt a little sad to leave
The drive back to Devonport was such a sombre vibe
But not too worry, for we’d be heading back there soon
We were smiling when we sailed off in the night . . . Singing . .
