Fishing the shallow waters of Tampa Bay and Clearwater Harbor for Redfish.
Fishing Skyway Pier State Park in Tampa, Florida
Went for a little visit to Florida and gathered up some limited gear to fish the Skyway Pier near Tampa. It's supposedly the world's longest fishing pier. We don't know much about saltwater fishing and really had no idea what we were catching lol. Hope you enjoy.

► More Info About Species caught:
The common snook is a species of marine fish in the family Centropomidae of the order Perciformes. The common snook is also known as the sergeant fish or robalo. It was originally assigned to the sciaenid genus Sciaena; Sciaena undecimradiatus and Centropomus undecimradiatus are obsolete synonyms for the species. Live shrimp, live pilchards, live mullet, and live sardines can all work depending on where you are fishing. As with most bait fishing it's usually best to catch some bait near the area you will be fishing. Snook have a hard time turning down a lively bait fished near their ambush points such as docks and mangroves.
Easy Way to Catch Spotted Sea Trout in Florida
Spotted Seatrout can be caught in virtually any of Florida’s inshore waters, from the outside surf to far up coastal rivers, and, at times, in fairly deep Gulf water. Most commonly caught from spring through fall on shallow grassy flats and in grass-lined channels and holes. During cold snaps, they run far up coastal rivers.

The average local temperature of this subtropical tourist haven is 73 degrees, with fall and spring being the most comfortable seasons.
The area is characterized by a white sand beach stretching for 2.5 miles along the Gulf and sits on one of the county's barrier islands. It has a full marina on the Intracoastal Waterway side and is linked on the south by a short bridge to another island called Sand Key, where on the near end is found a large public beach park, directly on the Gulf.
Sand Key Park, which closes at dark, has picnic and fishing accommodations, a nature trail, beach concession stands, and very spacious parking lots. By contrast, the main part of Clearwater Beach is so densely developed that it can be difficult to navigate by car. (Both areas have metered parking spaces; the hours of enforcement vary.) These two islands as well as the island containing the Island Estates neighborhood belong to the city of Clearwater, whose downtown core a.k.a. Cleveland Street District lies a couple of miles to the east over the newly-completed Clearwater Memorial Causeway.
Clearwater Beach Fishing Pier on Florida's West Coast (Whiting and Silver Trout) GoPro
Clearwater Fishing - Pier 60
Winter time is a great opportunity to target Trout and Whiting off the local beaches. Fishing off the pier is quite simple. Just go light on the tackle, use small J-hooks and 1oz egg sinkers. I normally stick with 10# test line and the smallest reel I can get away with. You can rig it up any way you want, just don't use wire leaders. Make sure to use live shrimp as they will yield the biggest fish. That day we also caught sheepshead and a couple of flounders.
Here is a link to the pier for more info:
Clearwater Beach

Clearwater Beach is a resort area located on the Gulf of Mexico in Pinellas County on the west central coast of Florida in the United States. It is a part of the city of Clearwater. The geographic latitude is 27.57 N and longitude 82.48 W.
Clearwater Beach is approximately 20 miles from Tampa International Airport, 25 from Downtown Tampa and offers such activities as parasailing, jet ski rentals, boat tours (with a common sighting of dolphins in the Gulf waters), miniature golf, fishing charters, and pirate ship cruises.
Pier 60 activities
Pier 60, named for Florida State Road 60 which terminates here, is a central spot for beachgoers and has a playground, a snack bar with attached souvenir shop, and a long fishing pier. It's the site of a daily event called Sunsets at Pier 60, which includes street performers and musical acts. On the pier itself is a nightly display of goods sold by local artisans such as jewelry, candles, and other gift items.
Clearwater has been ranked one of the best beaches in the U.S. frequently and its Sandpearl resort was named one of the best beach resorts in the U.S. In 2009 an episode of Brooke Knows Best was shot on the beach.

Clearwater Beach Florida, Pier 60, Pinellas County, Spring Break (pinellasadventures.com) Best
Clearwater Beach Florida One of the most popular beaches in the Country. Clearwater Beach Florida
Present-day Clearwater was originally the home of the Tocobaga people. Around 1835, the United States Army began construction of Fort Harrison, named after William Henry Harrison, as an outpost during the Seminole Wars. The fort was located on a bluff overlooking Clearwater Harbor, which later became part of an early 20th century residential development called Harbor Oaks. University of South Florida archaeologists excavated the site in 1977 after Alfred C. Wyllie discovered an underground ammunition bunker while digging a swimming pool on his estate.
The area's population grew after the Federal Armed Occupation Act of 1842 offered 160 acres (0.65 km2) to anyone who would bear arms and cultivate the land. Early settlers included the Stevens, Stevenson and McMullen families, who claimed and farmed large tracts of land. Prior to 1906, the area was known as Clear Water Harbor. The name Clear Water is thought to have come from a fresh water spring flowing from near where the City Hall building is located today. There were many other freshwater springs that dotted the bluff, many in the bay or harbor itself.
View north from Sand Key toward Clearwater Beach
Originally part of Hillsborough County, the first road joining Clearwater and Tampa was built in 1849, which dramatically reduced the prior day-long commute between the cities.
During the American Civil War, Union gunboats repeatedly raided the city's supplies, as most of the able-bodied men were away fighting for the Confederate Army. The town began developing in the late nineteenth century, prompted by Peter Demens' completion of the first passenger railroad line into the city in 1888. Clearwater was incorporated in 1891, with James E. Crane becoming the first mayor.[6] The area's popularity as a vacation destination grew after railroad magnate Henry B. Plant built a sprawling Victorian resort hotel named Belleview Biltmore just south of Clearwater in 1897.
Pinellas County Courthouse in Clearwater
By the early 1900s, Clearwater's population had grown to around 400, ballooning to nearly 1,000 in the winter. Clearwater's oldest existing newspaper, the Clearwater Sun, was first published on March 14, 1914.[7] Clearwater was reincorporated, this time as a city, on May 27, 1915, and was designated the county seat for Pinellas County, which broke from Hillsborough County in 1912. In 1915, a bridge was built across Clearwater Harbor, joining the city with Clearwater Beach to the west. Clearwater Beach, although located on a separate barrier island, belongs to the city of Clearwater and fronts the Gulf of Mexico. A new, much higher bridge now arcs over the bay, replacing the former drawbridge; the connecting road is part of Florida State Road 60 and is called Clearwater Memorial Causeway.
During World War II, Clearwater became a major training base for US troops destined for Europe and the Pacific. Virtually every hotel in the area, including the Belleview Biltmore and the Fort Harrison Hotel, was used as a barracks for new recruits. Vehicle traffic was regularly stopped for companies of soldiers marching through downtown, and nighttime blackouts to confuse potential enemy bombers were common practice. The remote and isolated Dan's Island, now the highrise-dominated Sand Key, was used as a target by U.S. Army Air Corps fighter-bombers for strafing and bombing practice.
The average local temperature of this subtropical tourist haven is 73 degrees, with fall and spring being the most comfortable seasons.

Diving West Coast Florida Hard Bottom Ledges and Reefs - Grouper, Snapper, Amberjack Fishing
What kind of habitat supports offshore reef fish species? In this very special episode of Head First Fishing, we link up with I'm No Aussie Dive and Fishing. Mr. Craig takes us to some beautiful examples of west coast Florida natural live bottom reefs and ledges. These places were loaded with life. It was amazing to see all the different species of fish that live down there. The state of florida abounds with great diving opportunities no matter where you are. East or West Coast there are great dives to be done. West Central and South West Florida have some incredible natural reef habitat that is home to many different types of sea creatures. From grouper, snapper, amberjack, hogfish, and triggerfish, to sea turtles, manta rays, whale sharks, lobsters, and more! It's a diver's paradise down there as you cruise along the natural rocky outcrops and coral reefs. Offshore Tampa Bay is home to numerous wrecks and reefs that provide excellent diving opportunity, hosting a large dive and spearfishing community.
In this episode I also give you a few tips on what you should be looking for when searching for fishing spots offshore.

March 12th, 2019: For my 12th outing of this year, I hit the Clearwater Pass in Clearwater, Florida!
For those who weren't aware, I finally obtained my 10-years Green Card back in Mid-February of 2019. Since the process took about three years, my wife and I decided to go down to Florida for a 5-days vacation.
As you folks know, there was absolutely NO WAY that EPF wouldn't have fished -- at least a little bit -- during this family trip. Hehe. And as a result, some very interesting Species showed up: even one with ARMS?!
