Thoroughly Modern Millie: Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts 2013 Mid-Year Musical
2nd Year and 3rd Year Music Theatre students from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) at Edith Cowan University (ECU) perform Thoroughly Modern Millie, 15-22 June at the Regal Theatre in Subiaco.
Thoroughly Modern Millie is based on the 1968 musical film and set in the 1920s. It tells the story of a naive young woman who finds herself in the midst of a series of madcap adventures when she sets her sights on marrying her boss. She begins to take delight in the flapper lifestyle in this hilarious celebration of the roaring twenties... when the parties rocked and Charleston was the dance of choice!
Although a relative newcomer to stage, introduced in 2000, Thoroughly Modern Millie has all the components of an old-fashioned musical: romantic ballads, show-stopping musical numbers, parallel love stories, tap dance, mistaken identity and conflict created by hilarious buffoons!

More theatres were to follow, such as Cinema City and the Cine Centre. Hoyts also ran a number of small cinemas known as Hoyts Cinemas 1, 2 and 3.
Sadly, none of these venues, except His Majesty's (a live theatre), are operating today, with very little left to show that they existed.
This video covers the early venues used to show silent movies in Perth.
The switchover from silent to sound in the American film industry, which began in late 1927, was primarily complete by 1929 (though even in that year silent pictures continued to be produced, though at a heavily reduced rate).
In all, the silent film era lasted from 1895 to 1936. With Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times being made in 1936.
Sadly, a September 2013 report by the United States Library of Congress announced that a total of 70% of American silent feature films are believed to be completely lost.
This video was compiled by the WA TV History team for showing at a Australian Museum of Motion Picture and Television (AMMPT) meeting. Narration by AMMPT's Keith Rutherford.
Thomas Crane Somebody to Love Bohemian Rhapsody @ Regal Theatre
this was taken by my sister on her iPhone at the Regal Theatre in Subiaco Western Australia, 2012/13? (not sure, will have to check) anyway... LOVE this song so much.. it's a real test of any singer and I think Thomas does a phenomenal performance of the song here in this clip. Gets the heart pumping in the climax of the song, you want to get up and get all gospel with him. I love it. This guy is a real genius performer.. he's a true force in his own right. This guy is the bomb. I'm a hugeeee fan :)
