Amazing time-lapse of Pavlodar bridge construction 4K
The longest industrial time-lapse video project was implemented by Production Company from Kazakhstan. During two years and one month the PRP Studio production team from Astana was performing a time-lapse video filming of the construction of a bridge crossing across the Irtysh in Pavlodar region.
This film can be described without exaggeration as the longest time-lapse video project in the world. Filming began on November 1, 2014, and went 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, without interruption, until the bridge was entered into service on December 15, 2016. In total, 385 thousand cadres were taken in 25 months. Filming was conducted from several cameras: two stationary cameras took video from four locations and one dynamic camera - from five locations, plus an aerial filming was made in parallel and designed to show the overall scale of the project and its modification against the backdrop of a changing landscape.

Kazakhstan: big country, great leader? | VPRO Documentary
Where exactly is Kazakhstan and who is the leader of this big country? How do people live in Kazakhstan and how does the population live around the nuclear test site Semipalatinsk? How does the leader of Kazakhstan, president Nursultan Nazarbayev, lead the country? A documentary about Kazakhstan, his leader and the still visible legacy of the Soviet Union.
In this eight-part travel series, the Dutch journalist and author Jelle Brandt Corstius travels through Russia and visits the neighbor countries Latvia, Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. What image do the Russians have of their neighbors and vice versa? What are the relations between powerful Russia and the other former Soviet republics? And how do the countries around Russia treat their Russian inhabitants? A series about propaganda and identity.
In the ice-cold steppe, where labor camps used to be, lies Astana, the new capital of Kazakhstan. The city was built out of nowhere using huge oil and gas reserves found in the Caspian Sea in the 1990s. Where you would expect nomads and yurts are futuristic buildings designed by the famous architect Norman Foster. In the Soviet era, Kazakhstan was a kind of backyard, where hundreds of labor camps were created and where millions of Russian prisoners were found.
Since Kazakhstan has become independent one man is in power, Nursultan Nazarbayev. He is probably longer President than anyone else in the world. All elections are manipulated and an opposition does not exist. Putin is a Democrat if you compare him to Nazarbayev. He governs the country as if it were his property. Parks are named after him, statues of him are everywhere and children born on his birthday receive a gift.
Kazakhstan is as big as Western Europe, but only few people know this big country. Most have heard of the nuclear weapons test site Semipalatinsk, where a total of 468 nuclear bombs were detonated. We visit the test site and meet people that live in that area. The local population is still struggling with health problems. It`s the legacy of a Soviet Union, of which some fear it will return.

SUMMARY
=======
A tram (in North America streetcar or trolley) is a rail vehicle which runs on tramway tracks along public urban streets; some include segments of segregated right-of-way. The lines or networks operated by tramcars are called tramways. Historically the term electric street railways was also used in the United States. In the United States, the term tram has sometimes been used for rubber-tyred trackless trains, which are not related to the other vehicles covered in this article.
Tram vehicles are usually lighter and shorter than main line and rapid transit trains. Today, most trams use electrical power, usually fed by a pantograph sliding on an overhead line; older systems may use a trolley pole or a bow collector. In some cases by a contact shoe on a third rail is used. If necessary, they may have dual power systems—electricity in city streets, and diesel in more rural environments. Occasionally, trams also carry freight.
Trams are now commonly included in the wider term light rail, which also includes grade-separated systems. Some trams, known as tram-trains, may have segments that run on mainline railway tracks, similar to interurban systems. The differences between these modes of rail transport are often indistinct, and a given system may combine multiple features.
One of the advantages over earlier forms of transit was the low rolling resistance of metal wheels on steel rails, allowing the animals to haul a greater load for a given effort. Problems included the fact that any given animal could only work so many hours on a given day, had to be housed, groomed, fed and cared for day in and day out, and produced prodigious amounts of manure, which the streetcar company was charged with disposing of. Electric trams largely replaced animal power in the late 19th and early 20th century. Improvements in other forms of road transport ...
Did unicorns walk the earth alongside humans?
PAVLODAR, KAZAKHSTAN — An ancient relative of the rhinoceros described as a “Siberian unicorn” may have walked the earth alongside humans.
The giant horned beasts were thought to have become extinct 350,000 years ago. However, the discovery of a fossilised skull shows Elasmotherium sibiricum only died out 29,000 years ago, according to a study published in the American Journal of Applied Sciences.
That means the Siberian unicorn may have shared the earth with humans.
Researchers found fragments of the giant skull in the Pavlodar region of northeast Kazakhstan.
Fossils suggest the Siberian unicorn stood 2 meters tall, 4.5 meters long and weighed 4 tons, making it bigger than today’s rhinos.
Researchers believe the Siberian unicorns were herbivores, according to science website Phys.org. Their habitat extended from western Russia to eastern Kazakhstan, according to the study.
Western Siberia may have been a refuge for the beasts, which allowed them to survive much longer than similar creatures, Andrei Shpanski, a paleontologist at Tomsk State University, told Phys.org.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
A tram (in North America streetcar or trolley) is a rail vehicle which runs on tramway tracks along public urban streets; some include segments of segregated right-of-way. The lines or networks operated by tramcars are called tramways. Historically the term electric street railways was also used in the United States. In the United States, the term tram has sometimes been used for rubber-tired trackless trains, which are unrelated to other kinds of trams.
One of the advantages over earlier forms of transit was the low rolling resistance of metal wheels on steel rails, allowing the trams to haul a greater load for a given effort. Improvements in other forms of road transport such as buses led to decline of ...
Borderland - E3/8 - The Backyard
In this series Jelle Brandt Corstius explores the border countries between Russia and Europe, from Latvia to Moldavia, West and East Ukraine, Belarus and Kazakhstan. What is the picture that the Russians and their neighbours have of each other, how are the relationships between powerful Russia and the other former Soviet republics? And how do the surrounding countries treat their Russian inhabitants? A series about propaganda and identity.
Episode 3: The Backyard
Kazakhstan is a country the size of western Europe, and yet very few people have heard of it. We visit the city of Semipalatinsk, with its sad legacy from the Soviet days: a total of 456 atomic bombs were detonated here. The locals still have health problems. The inheritance of a Soviet Union that some people fear will return.
