The Important Pilgrimage Site of Maheshwar, India
Also known as the Temple City, Maheshwar is located on the Narmada River, an important pilgrimage site for Hindus. The one-mile long river front is dotted with shrines, ghats and cenotaphs (memorials) of the Holkar rulers.
The greatest queen of that dynasty was Maharani Ahilya Bai who built temples and buildings during the mid-Eighteenth Century. A fan shaped stairway leads from the river front to Maheshwar Fort's royal enclosure.
Marine Steve and I are accustomed to locals asking for photographs with us (probably to show friends and relatives how hideous Westerners are) but people in Maheshwar almost went into a frenzy asking to take photographs with me. What? I look like Nicole Kidman all of a sudden?

Aagor Daagraa - Women weavers organisation (Short Documentary)
In bodo language “Aagor” means ‘design or Motif’ while “Daagra Afad” means weavers’ organisation
Aagor Daagra Afad is a non-profit trust formed in 2005 with an objective to sustain the traditional weaving art and to create livelihood opportunities for tribal women in Bodoland, Assam (India).
Aagor is run by women and its board of trustees is elected and guided by the Weavers Executive Committee.
Currently over 100 women work at Aagor.

WomenWeave's Gudi Mudi Khadi Project - Short film
Gudi Mudi is the flagship project of WomenWeave Charitable Trust. The objective of this initiative is to provide dignified livelihood to women artisans. It is based out of a quaint village in central India - Maheshwar. The project in itself is an example of how a community of strong willed women can create a self-sufficient world for themselves.
Gudi Mudi today employs 400 women artisans and supplied extraordinary hand-spun and handwoven fabrics to 22 countries worldwide.

Weaves of Maheshwar: In Madhya Pradesh, weavers revive a declining craft
Maheshwar is a beautiful riverside town in Madhya Pradesh, which has a significant spot in history. From here, Ahilyabai Holkar ruled the state of Indore in the18th century. She promoted the tradition of hand weaving, and the town continues to be renowned for its Maheshwari sarees.
