Drakensberg || Bushmans Nek, Mystery Caves, Sani Pass, Reichenau Mission
It is the quintessential weekend away. It is also quintessentially South African. We went for a short hike in the Drakensberg mountains and saw the incredible Mystery Caves. We found rich South African history painted on rocks, painted by South Africa's first people. We also went up the Sani Pass, and checked out the Reichenau Mission in Underberg.

Abbot Pfanner TrappistTrail - March 2018
A compilation video of the first test walk on the Abbot Pfanner Trappist Trail by a group of intrepid hikers from South Africa. The trail started at Reichenau Mission near Underberg and ended at Mariathal Mission near Ixopo. The trail was developed to honour Abbot Francis Pfanner, founder of what became the largest Trappist Monastery in the world, and 20 other Missions in rural Kwa-Zulu Natal and East Griqualand.

What happens when you go inside a beautiful interior to photograph it and the images on your camera look dark and dingy.
I went to Reichenau Mission Station near Underberg in South Africa and had that experience - first of all I didn't have a wide enough lens and the results were really drab. But Adobe Lightroom to the rescue!
Have a look how I managed to rescue the image and make it gleam.

BE YOUR OWN HERO - Teaser Safe House
SAFE HOUSE - die erste Stufe des Gesamtprojektes Kwa Sani.
Im SAFE HOUSE werden alle Schutz suchenden Menschen beraten und betreut. Es ist Zufluchtsort für Kinder und Frauen, für verfolgte und stigmatisierte Menschen und verwaiste Kinder.
Im SAFE HOUSE gibt es Hilfe. Hier steht ein funktionierendes Telefon und für Notsituationen geschulte Menschen helfen den Schutzsuchenden. Im Winter gibt es hier warme Decken und eine heiße Suppe. Hilfesuchende Kinder werden an andere Projekte des BE YOUR OWN HERO e.V., wie z.B. das Waisenhaus Clouds of Hope, vermittelt.
Der BE YOUR OWN HERO e.V. konnte bislang die Mittel für den Bau zweier SAFE HOUSES zur Verfügung stellen. In den Locations (ähnlich Townships) in Himeville und in Underberg betreiben jeweils auch aus den Locations stammende Familien die SAFE HOUSES.
Unser Ziel ist es, weitere SAFE HOUSES zu initiieren und so möglichst vielen Menschen Schutz und Hilfe geben zu können.

Winter Market – Sarah Underberg, Agri-Cultured
Agri-Cultured creates fermented foods and will be one of the 130 vendors at the Downtown Winter Farmers’ Market on Nov. 17 and 18 in Capital Square and Kaleidoscope at the Hub. A few of the items they’ll bring will be sauerkraut, pickles, kimchi and kombucha. They are also making some new fermented items, owner Sarah Underberg tells us about them.
