Valle Piola is located in the hearth of Gran Sasso National Park, in the province of Teramo, in the Abruzzo region of central Italy; it sits at an elevation of approximately 3336 feet on the northeast slope of Monte Farina, a natural basin from which springs the Rio Valle.
It is 75 minutes away from the closest airport (Pescara airport) and 2 hours from Fiumicino airport.
The village is reachable by an uneven road; the main street in the village center has been paved. A mule path leads to higher elevations.
Thanks to its location, the village offers peace and quiet and amazing views on valleys and wide forests covering the surrounding mountains can be enjoyed.
The village is composed by a dozen buildings dating back to 1800 and a Church. It also includes three older buildings called Case Menghini, a small cluster of interconnected houses.
The town of Valle Piola and nearby Case Menghini were connected to the local electrical grid in 1955. Telephone lines first arrived in 1965. Water works are available, as well.
The first written document mentioning Valle Piola dates back to the year 1059.
In the years following 1152 the mountain areas of the region lost population as people made their way to the much larger provincial capital of Teramo.
From the 13th century until the time of the Italian Risorgimento (unification), Valle Piola served as a meeting center and hideout for armed brigands, this area being ideally suited for such purposes.
During the Second World War the Italian resistance fighters staged in this area, along with Bosco Martese and other nearby forest tracts of Monti della Laga in their struggles against the occupying German forces.
Currently Valle Piola is a deserted village having been abandoned in 1977.
Two of the structures in Valle Piola have attached to them a wooden balcony known as a gafio. One is the house of the Menghini family located on the town outskirts. A second is found in the old town center.
These outstanding architectonical elements testify the Longobard influence spread though the Monti della Laga territories and the bearing wall, characterized by plaster absence.
Valle Piola can be totally restructured in order to be turned into a boutique hotel.
Some positive examples of boutique hotels in Italy are located in Santo Stefano di Sessanio and Matera. Despite the fact these villages have not been abandoned, some Valle Piola's peculiarities can be turned into key success factors.
Valle Piola is located in a natural amphitheatre where Rio Valle springs, which is characterized by a sense of peace and quiet. Moreover, main alpine skiing resorts which are on the East side of Gran Sasso Mountain can be easily reached. In this area cross country skiing is also practiced. In summertime, several other sport activities are available: hiking, mountain biking, and equitrekking.
These features make Valle Piola an ideal solutions for those willing to be in contact with nature, in a unique set, either relaxing or practicing sports.

Dolceacqua: un “nuovo” Castello da scoprire promuove artisti e fotografi a kilometro zero.

Il caratteristico borgo di Dolceacqua si è riappropriato del suo Castello Doria offrendo un nuovo itinerario di visita che permette di valorizzarne la struttura e lo rende un vero e proprio polo museale e culturale, testimone di un passato glorioso ma proiettato al futuro.

I lavori di restauro, terminati da pochi giorni, si sono incentrati, infatti, anche sulla riqualificazione dell’intera area antistante i bastioni, partendo da Porta Piazza del Lù, con la realizzazione di un’area verde (giardino pubblico – belvedere) totalmente fruibile grazie ad un arredo urbano di nuova generazione che ben si integra con il territorio e consente di godere della complessa architettura della fortezza, già dall’esterno. Un sistema di illuminazione a pavimento inoltre agevola la salita e segnala il percorso di visita senza interferire sull’atmosfera medioevale del sito.

All’interno, un sistema razionale di passerelle in acciaio, su più livelli, permette di esplorare, in tutta sicurezza, i corpi laterali e di accedere ai bastioni più esterni del castello, un tempo interdetti al pubblico.

Le ampie sale adiacenti all’ingresso nelle torri nord e sud, sono ora animate da una interessante rassegna fotografica dal titolo Liguritudine, organizzata dall’associazione non profit Wepesto che nasce nel 2014 con l’intento di raccontare il Ponente Ligure. La mostra, semipermanente, trasmette ai visitatori vere emozioni del territorio del Ponente, rappresentando luoghi e tradizioni con la passione di chi è ligure o di chi ama questa parte di Liguria.

Inclusa nella visita un’interessante Mostra di Arte Contemporanea, fruibile fino al 24 maggio 2015, che ci presenta quattro tra gli artisti più interessanti del territorio: Ugo Tornatore, Roberto Pallanca,Luca Perrone, Gaspare Caramello. L’esposizione dell’artista Ugo Tornatore, in particolare, dal titolo “Forma e Colori” è un vero omaggio all’entroterra di Dolceacqua e alla costa ligure che viene rivisitata attraverso l’uso dei colori, impreziositi da sfumature dorate ed argentee e abbelliti da materiali di riuso come il ferro, il vetro, il plexiglass che assumono forme vegetali e animali.

Di sicuro impatto visivo anche le opere dell’artista Gaspare Caramello, ideatore del Trans Concettualismo, che si basano sull’elaborazione di immagini fotografiche tramite il mezzo digitale creando un inaspettato risultato visivo. Roberto Pallanca e Luca Perrone, infine, trascinano i visitatori in un viaggio, quasi onirico, pieno di colori, geometrie ancestrali e simboli.

Talamone is a charming village in Maremma, located on the southern border of the Uccellina mountain range. Characterized by its ancient fortress of the Aldobrandeschi family, this small village oversees the beautiful Silver Coast and reflects onto the crystal blue water of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Legend has it that the name Talamone comes directly from the Greek hero Telamon, son of Aeacus and Endeïs, brother of Achilles' father, Peleus. It says that Telamon landed here on
The origins of Talamone are very ancient. Some findings of spears and stones date back its foundation to Neolithic times. The Etruscans first, and then the Romans live on this rocky hill. Many traces of this glorious past have been found including the beautiful pediment of an ancient temple depicting the history of The Seven against Thebes which is now displayed at the Archeological Museum of Orbetello. In 225 B.C. Talamone is the theater of the important battle of the victorious Romans against the Gauls only to be completely destroyed by Sulla.
Around 1300, almost abandoned, Talamone becomes a garrison house of Siena under the Aldobrandeschi family. It comes back to its ancient splendor thanks to the important works of drainage in Maremma done by Grand Duke Leopold II of the Lorraines in the 1700s.
In 1860, when Giuseppe Garibaldi lands here for restocking arms during the Expedition of the Thousand, Talamone becomes famous all around Italy.
A Traditional Fishing Village
Today Talamone preserves its traditional look of a fortified fishing village. The small harbour is overlooked by the imposing Aldobrandeschi fortress of the 13th century. The fortress was abandoned and destroyed many times over the centuries. In the late 16th century, the Sienese rebuilt it as we see it today. It clearly stands out on top of the rocky hill over the village.
The center maintains its original aspect and is characterized by narrow streets and stone houses.
A Place Filled with Adventure
Talamone is certainly a small jewel of the Maremma area. In the last few years, it has become a renowned seaside destination in Tuscany. Its sandy beaches are bordered by pine woods and characterized by crystal water of an intense blue color. The bay of Talamone is also famous for sailing sports. It is the perfect location to practice windsurfing, kite-surfing and sailing. Close to the harbor is the Lagoon's Aquarium dedicated to the particular ecosystem of the lagoon of Orbetello nearby.
The hinterland is characterized by the typical macchia Mediterranea of this area. Talamone stands on the border of the beautiful Natural Park of the Maremma and is part of the Uccellina Park.
