São Paulo Museum of Art - Brazil - Visit Brazil - Travel to Brazil - World cup 2014 in brazil
The São Paulo Museum of Art (in Portuguese, Museu de Arte de São Paulo, or MASP) is an art museum located on Paulista Avenue in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. It is well known for its headquarters, a 1968 concrete and glass structure designed by Lina Bo Bardi, whose main body is supported by two lateral beams over a 74 meters freestanding space, considered a landmark of the city and a main symbol of modern Brazilian architecture.
The museum is a private non-profit institution founded in 1947 by Assis Chateaubriand and Pietro Maria Bardi. MASP distinguished itself for many important initiatives concerning museology and art education in Brazil, as well as for its pioneering role as a cultural center.[4] It was also the first Brazilian museum interested in Post-World War II artistic tendencies.

TC2 - Pablo León de La Barra - Bienales Tropicales (4/5)
Create your own biennale / activate local forces / create new territories/ the economy of friendship
Gran Bienal Tropical, December 2011
Puerto Rican artist, Radames 'Juni' Figueroa, invited me to curate the last exhibition at 'La Loseta' the artist space he had been running for a year at his apartment in San Juan. Honoured by his invitation, I suggested we should do the exhibition not inside but outside, in a jungle located next to the beach a few kilometres towards the outskirts of San Juan where we decided the Gran Bienal Tropical would happen. While Puerto Rico has a great number of interesting young contemporary artists, the infrastructure there for the arts is very limited, museums have limited budget and are only interested in showing established shows (David La Chapelle washaving an exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art while I was there), and collectors mostly buy established international artist for investment. Still, young artists have developed their own structures for the exhibition and dissemination of their work, and Radames Figueora's La Loseta is an example of it. The idea of the Gran Bienal Tropical was for artists to test ideas and to put in dialogue their work with each other and with the landscape in what we called the Green Cube, something contrary to the structured White Cube. Theidea was for the Biennale to be an open call one, where local artist could suggest their ideas, and be in dialogue with the curator about their realization. Anybody could participate. Other artists not living in the island were invited to send instructions for the realization of their work, following the format of 'Do it', Hans Ulrich Obrist, Christian Boltanski, and Bertrand Lavier's project for a peripatetic exhibition by instructions. The main idea to give visibility to a local scene, instead of importing artists or have the art traveling circus doing a jet set stop. The day of the exhibition artists chose where to install their work, some more towards the jungle, others amongst trees or nearer to the ocean. There was no fighting of artists for space, and never in my whole life as curator had I been involved in an exhibition installation that was as uncomplicated at this one. No egos just collaboration. Visitorscould arrive and artists would still be installing the work, no hurry, this was part of the process, it was not about a finished perfect exhibition, but about a process of collaborations. All of the works were financed by the artists themselves, in what I call the economy of friendship, and which is inspired by Roberto Jacoby's 'Strategies of Happiness' and 'Technologies of Friendship': not to complicate the things, to use what is available, do it in the moment when you think about it, and not expecting great results or great support. Do what you want, when you want and with what you have at hand. [1] A jury was invited and Piña Dorada (Golden Pineapple) awards were given to what were considered the best proposals. A special award was given to La Comay, the food kiosk next to where the Biennale took place for being an art work in itself, but also for the celebration of life, food and friendship that happen within the place.
A possible future Bienal Tropical might happen again in La Comay, in Puerto Rico, but might also happen in the jungles of Tabasco or Palenque, near Tikal in Guatemala, somewhere in Costa Rica or Panama, in the island of Solentiname in Nicaragua, in the Peruvian Amazons of Iquitos or the Colombian Amazons of Leticia or the Brazilian Amazons or Manaos or somewhere in between, in Rio de Janeiro or in Salvador de Bahia, or in Cape Verde, Mumbai, Pondichery, Bangkok or Vietnam... The Bienal Tropical should continue to work according to an open and flexible model, and continue transforming itself and responding to changing contexts.

Sigitas Staniunas residency in Instituto Sacatar , Itaparica island, Brazil, 2012
During my career I have always been interested in the ideas of intercultural communication, its social, historical and other aspects, along with the ideas of cultural inheritance, development and progress. The influence of post-modern philosophy determined my interest in European and other ancient cultures, their utilization in contemporary art. In 2012 Sigitas Staniunas was an artist in residency for one month in Instituto Sacatar, Brazil.

STORYLINE:
The city that gave the world the famed fio dental, or dental floss bikini is back in the fashion limelight with a whole new concept of what a runway show can be in the age of see-now, buy-now instant gratification.
Rio Moda Rio, a three-day extravaganza concluding on Friday (17 June 2016) is wrenching fashion out of the clutches of the fashion insiders and opening it up to the public
.
The brainchild of producer Duda Magalhaes, the event is at the intersection of fashion, commerce and entertainment. Open to the ticket-buying public, it includes not only runway shows but also lectures, demonstrations, food trucks and stands.
Eight of the 14 labels with that staged runway shows at the event also had pop-up stores where impatient consumers could immediately purchase what struck their fancy on the runway.
This is the way of the future, said Magalhaes, adding that he believed fashion capitals like Paris, Milan and New York would probably soon adapt a similar model. It's a happy coincidence that we're the first.
Rio Moda Rio also marked the return of a major fashion event to the city, which saw its fashion week cancelled two years ago as the industrial powerhouse to the south, São Paulo, snatched the title of Brazil's fashion capital.
Lenny Neimeyer, the 'Grande Dame' of sophisticated swimwear, said she was thrilled to be showing her celebrated beachwear in the seaside metropolis.

Brazil Drone Flight: São Paulo, Brazils vibrant financial center, is among the worlds most populous cities, with numerous cultural institutions and a rich architectural tradition. Its iconic buildings range from its neo-Gothic cathedral and the 1929 Martinelli skyscraper to modernist architect Oscar Niemeyers curvy Edifício Copan. The colonial-style Pátio do Colégio church marks where Jesuit priests founded the city in 1554. The ornate Theatro Municipal hosts symphonic and ballet productions. The Mercado Municipal features cafes and produce stalls in a 1930s building with stained-glass windows. Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, a museum founded in 1905, showcases Brazilian art. South of downtown is Liberdade, a large Japanese cultural district. Bela Vista is home to an Italian community as well as the São Paulo Museum of Modern Art, which exhibits international works in a modern glass structure. The Jardins neighborhood has designer boutiques and upmarket cafes. Ibirapuera Park contains green lawns, lakeside trails and art galleries. // Rio de Janeiro is a huge seaside city in Brazil, famed for its Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, 38m Christ the Redeemer statue atop Mount Corcovado and for Sugarloaf Mountain, a granite peak with cable cars to its summit. The city is also known for its sprawling favelas (shanty towns). Its raucous Carnaval festival, featuring parade floats, flamboyant costumes and samba dancers, is considered the worlds largest. Sporting pursuits include volleyball on Ipanema Beach, surfing at Arpoador and paragliding from the lofty Pedra Bonita viewpoint. Sandy beaches stretch from Guanabara Bay to Barra in the west, all of them with cycle tracks and kiosks selling coconut water. Tijuca National Park features rainforest-covered mountains filled with waterfalls, hiking trails and toucans. Samba, forró and bossa nova bands perform in the bars of the Lapa area. Modern art is exhibited at Museu de Arte Moderna and Museu de Arte do Rio. Host of the 2016 Olympics, Rio is also home to iconic Maracanã Stadium. [Source: Google]

Our visit São Paulo travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (best restaurants and street food), top museums and São Paulo at night. We also cover off-the-beaten-path activities you won't find in a typical São Paulo tourism brochure or São Paulo, Brasil city tour.
20 Things to do in São Paulo, Brazil Travel Guide and Top Attractions Video Transcript:
Within the park grounds you’ll find the Afro-Brasil Museum, which is a contemporary museum that looks at African culture and influence in Brazilian society. And not too far from there, you’ll come across the Museum of Modern Art.
Batman Alley is located in Vila Madalena and it has become a popular tourist and Instagram spot. Apparently the place gets its name because the first piece of graffiti to go up was one of Batman back in the 1980s.
If you’re a football lover, this is a place you won’t want to miss.
Being the foodies that we are, we couldn’t skip the Municipal Market. Here you can find exotic fruits, fresh vegetables, meats, spices and even restaurants. We went there right around the lunch hour to try the famed mortadella sandwich.
From there, we visited Sao Paulo Cathedral. We only learned this after our visit, but there’s a crypt you can visit.
Next up we headed to the neighbourhood of Liberdade, which has the largest Japanese community in the world outside of Japan. We decided to hit up a sushi buffet for some food!
That evening we met up with our Brazilian friends, who took us out for a night on the town.
That morning we visited Pinacoteca do Estado, which is a cool art museum that focuses on works by Brazilian artist or works with Brazilian subject matter.
After that we headed over to Parque da Luz. This park is right next to the museum and it has a lot of interesting sculptures scattered about.
Sao Paulo’s Teatro Municipal first opened in 1911. The Martinelli building is 30 stories high and it was the first skyscraper in South America.
And that’s a quick look at how we spent 2 days in Sao Paulo. We hope you enjoyed this guide and that it gave you some ideas on how to tackle South America’s largest city. As always, if you have any other suggestions of fun things to do in Sao Paulo, feel free to share those with us in the comments below.
