Townsville Openwater Course
Did you know that Planet Earth’s surface is covered by more than 70% water? Our oceans and water systems, including lakes and rivers, control our climate and temperature, move weather patterns, and support living organisms yet remains mostly unexplored with 95% of it unseen by the human eye. You may go swimming in the ocean or snorkel over a reef, but now it’s time to take it one step further. See the underwater world as it is meant to be experienced underwater

Spearfishing Australia 2018, TRUNK REEF IN A 4.6m TINNY! HINCHINBROOK, QUEENSLAND FNQ
This is a short edit of one of my recent trips to Trunk reef, roughly 40kms off Lucinda QLD. It was one of those perfect days to hit the water! so perfect in fact we took a 4.6m tinny out with us! the high light of the day was defiantly the crays, sadly both of my spare gopro battery's went flat before we had a chance to go get some crays! please enjoy the video as much as I enjoy creating them and don't forget to subscribe as this is not my last adventure!

SS Yongala Wreck Dive November 2018
S Yongala Wreck Dive Monday 5th November 2018
The SS Yongala sank off the coast south of Townsville in 1911 during a category 5 cyclone. Not one of the 122 people on board survived. It was not discovered until the late 1950's. The wreck sits in 30m of water, laying on its side, completely intact. It is 110m in length.
It is a wonderful dive. The wreck is not visible from the surface so you have to dive into the 'blue yonder'. The first view of the wreck is of the stern and initially it looks like a large rock because it is completely encrusted in soft and hard corals and aquatic plants. It is also completely enshrouded in fish!! Small fish use the ship as their shelter while large predatory circle the wreck, darting in and out to feed. There is colour and movement everywhere. The intensity of the sea life is quite remarkable. Initially we moved along the deck, quite deep. You could see hatches/ cargo holds and the main cabin. The ship's single funnel is still attached, jutting out of the deck covered with sea life.
The main features of the ship became more obvious when we moved up to the port side of the boat (the side that is facing up). Windows, port holes, walkways, railing and cargo doors are clear to see.
We completed two dives on our trip. Thanks to Jules Julia Peculiar from Remote Area Dive for her guidance on the Yongala dives and the other dives across the long weekend.
For me it was the most interesting diving experience so far. Could be hard to beat!! The idea that something like the Yongala slowly corroding yet supporting so much life is fascinating. Highly recommend to other divers. Will probably go back one day.......
