The Enchanted Pose rediscovered – When a Magritte hides a Magritte...
A lecture by Michael Duffy, Painting Conservator, and Danielle Johnson, Curatorial Assistant, Department of Painting and Sculpture - Museum of Modern Art, New York
During the preparation of the exhibition ‘Magritte: The Mystery of the Ordinary, 1926-1938’, held in New York until January 2014, the MOMA team found a hidden Magritte under another Magritte. After scientific studies and graphic comparisons, MOMA and the Art Institute of Chicago were able to assign these hidden fragments to a painting called ‘La Pose enchantée’(‘The Enchanted Pose’) (1927). The adventure did not stop there because there are still two fragments, hidden in existing collections. This painting can only be recomposed in its integrity when these are found. Michael Duffy, the restorer who discovered this hidden treasure, and Danielle Johnson, assistant curator of the department of painting and sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art will came in Brussels from New York specifically to share this adventure that led to the identification of these fragments of ‘La Pose enchantée’.

I think a rich person wanted that painting in their lounge and said, you know, 'I'm commissioning you to organise this - get it for me'. You know, unless the police track them down, we will never see it again, which is tragic.

STORYLINE
Two armed robbers stole a painting by Belgian artist Rene Magritte from a small museum in Brussels on Thursday.
The nude portrait of the surrealist's wife, Georgette, is valued at 750-thousand euro (1.1 (M) million US dollars).
The painting hung at Magritte's former house which has been turned into a small museum.
Entry is by appointment only.
Police said one of the men pretended to be a visitor to gain access to the museum.
Once inside, he threatened a female member of staff with a weapon and told her to let his accomplice in.
Police said the men locked all those inside the museum - staff and visitors - in a room before making off with the 1948 Olympia oil painting.
A Japanese tourist caught up in the drama said the men came so suddenly, it was a real shock.
Police said the robbers left the scene of their crime by car.
The museum from which the painting was taken is separate from a larger Magritte museum that opened this year.

Analyzing Magritte: An Evaluation of Personal Values
Hey there! Just decided to whip up this little guy on my day off. I’m a big fan of Surrealism and decided to throw my hat in the ring with a video discussing “Personal Values,” The 1952 painting by Belgian surrealist, René Magritte. I’m also going to delve a little into some philosophical stuff, namely, some ideas from Sartre. Thanks for swinging by!
Day III - museum day

There was a free vin chaud. and some night tour around the town. It was a pity that we couldn't pay a visit to gregory's place (ahaha), but oh well, ils étaient fatigués :p

René Magritte | The Lost World, 1928 | Kunstmuseum Winterthur
A circle of literati gathered around the painter René Magritte in Brussels. Astute, humorous and polemic they mocked conventional thought and experimented with new forms. One of their discoveries were pictures in which words played the main role.
