Plenary: Political Panel - What Would a Scotland Without Poverty Look Like?

The Scottish Assembly for Tackling Poverty has become one of the key forums for discussion and debate about the challenges and solutions to the problems of poverty in Scotland. Organised by the Poverty Alliance, Scotland's anti-poverty network, the Assembly brings together people with direct experience of poverty, community and voluntary organisations, trade unions, faith groups, academics and research, alongside politicians and policy makers to discuss and debate how to make progress in the fight against poverty.
The fifth Assembly was organised with the support of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) and will feed into their UK Anti-Poverty Strategies research programme. Focused on JRF's five anti-poverty themes the Assembly built on previous years' debates to consider what a Scotland Without Poverty would look like and how we may get there.
Attendees were invited based on their knowledge or experience across the six themes and their involvement at previous Assemblies.
The Scottish Assembly is more than just an annual conference, but is about deepening our understanding of poverty over the longer term, identifying lasting solutions and promoting dialogue regarding the implementation of those solutions. The Assembly took place over two days and use evidence sessions on each theme to consider underlying causes of poverty in Scotland and agreed what needs to be done to move towards a Scotland without poverty. Participants followed one theme through the three evidence sessions, discussing and debating the problems and the solutions, and finally identifying key priorities.
Scottish football player Alex Rennie Died at 69
Alex Rennie was born on 1948 and died on 5 March 2018. He was a Scottish football player and manager who played as a defender. He played for St Johnstone between 1968 and 1975, making almost 200 league appearances, and later managed the club from 1980 until 1985, winning the Scottish First Division title in 1983. He also played for Rangers, Stirling Albion and Dundee United and managed Stenhousemuir. Rennie was released by St Johnstone in April 1975. He was offered a contract by Hong Kong Rangers, but ultimately decided to remain in Scotland, signing for Dundee United in June 1975. After making 63 league appearances over the next three seasons, an eye injury forced him to retire from playing. Rennie worked as a coach for Heart of Midlothian during the late 1970s, assisting Willie Ormond and then serving as caretaker manager after Ormond was sacked. He returned to St Johnstone as manager in 1980, where he was instrumental in converting the young Ally McCoist from a midfielder to a forward before selling the player to Sunderland for a club record fee. Rennie remained at the club until 1985, winning the First Division title in the 1982-83 season. He left the club in 1985 after two successive relegations, and later managed Stenhousemuir from 1987 to 1989. He died at 69 years old.

Driftland Drift Game - ConeZilla! - Heat 3
???? SUBSCRIBE AND HIT THAT BELL FOR NOTIFICATIONS GUYS!
Our ConeZilla Staff Challenge has now become a challenge for two lucky drivers at the end of each winter practice day. This week we have Angus Johnstone who is a new(ish) driver at Driftland in his yellow Mazda MX-5. Angus didn't really know about Jeek and Ren, or the Youtube channel, or what ConeZilla was (it was billed as free extra tack time) - so when he had this inflicted upon him he was (rightly) a mixture of confused and annoyed. Great customer service guys. Next up was Driftland regular in 2018 James Anderson in his E46 328i which had been completely rebuilt after a large smash into an E36 previously. Both guys were new to this style of driving.... and it showed! Take it away gents....
What is ConeZilla?? Once you start drifting, you have to clip each cone behind the rear axle of your car hitting as many as possible in a single lap! We gave everyone two practice and then one final judged lap - it's harder than you think! Many cones and one camera were destroyed in the making of this video...
Driftland is the UKs only purpose built Japanese style drifting arena, built for all motorsport enthusiasts as a place to experience drifting at every level, from beginners taking their first steps to international competitions showcasing some of the finest talent the world has to offer.

Afternoon Plenary - Scottish Parliament: 9th June 2015
- Scottish Parliament Plenary Session. Agenda:
Scottish Government Debate: EU Referendum
S4M-13404 Fiona Hyslop: EU Referendum—That the Parliament notes the publication of the draft European Union (Referendum) Bill on 28 May 2015 and the Prime Minister’s intention to renegotiate the UK’s terms of membership with the EU before a referendum; advocates the bill’s amendment to extend the voting franchise in the referendum to 16 and 17-year-olds and all EU citizens resident in the UK; calls for the introduction of a double majority to ensure that none of the four constituent parts of the UK can be taken out of the EU against the will of its people; recognises the great value of Scotland’s place in the EU and will make a positive case for Scotland and the UK remaining in the EU by highlighting the economic, social, cultural and educational benefits of EU membership, and advocates the constructive reform of the EU from within the existing treaty framework.
The Presiding Officer has selected the following amendments
S4M-13404.4 Claire Baker: EU Referendum—As an amendment to motion S4M-13404 in the name of Fiona Hyslop (EU Referendum), leave out from “calls for” to end and insert “believes that the EU referendum should not be held on the same date as any other election in Britain, including the Scottish Parliament election in 2016, as recommended by the Electoral Commission in its briefing, Referendum on the United Kingdom’s membership of the European Union; highlights the substantial benefits of EU membership to Scotland and the UK’s economy through access to its single market; acknowledges the social, cultural and educational benefits of continued EU membership, and will make a positive progressive case for continued membership during the referendum while advocating constructive reform of the EU from within the existing treaty framework as strong and active members.”
S4M-13404.2 Alex Johnstone: EU Referendum—As an amendment to motion S4M-13404 in the name of Fiona Hyslop (EU Referendum), leave out from first “advocates” to end and insert “believes that the UK Parliament has the right to determine the franchise for such a referendum; recognises the vital importance of renegotiating the UK’s relationship with the EU, and pledges to work with the Prime Minister in order to achieve these changes and their subsequent approval in a UK-wide referendum.”
S4M-13404.1 Willie Rennie: EU Referendum—As an amendment to motion S4M-13404 in the name of Fiona Hyslop (EU Referendum), leave out from “calls for” to end and insert “believes that the UK is best served being a part of the EU and recognises the positive impact that membership has on Scotland; considers the pro-European case to be strong across the UK but recognises that pro-EU does not equate to anti-reform; is certain that EU membership is important for jobs, given that the EU is the UK’s largest export market; believes that pulling up the drawbridge on the EU and the single market would be a sure way to damage the economy of Scotland and the whole UK; further believes that withdrawal from the EU would be damaging to the UK’s social and cultural diversity; celebrates the UK’s membership of the EU, and looks forward to making the positive case for its continued membership in the months ahead.”
