Reniala Forest - Ifaty - Madagascar
20 Madagascar - Mangily, Reniala Reserve, Turtoises Village, Ifaty
and Mangily, 27km north of Tuléar, are two separate villages 3km apart that share the same beach, confusingly known as Ifaty Beach.
The beaches are really quite poor relative to other options: rocky at times, very shallow for much of the day and with sea-grass beds rather than sandy bottoms.
Reniala Private Reserve is a small protected area of only 60 ha, managed by an environmental association called Reniala (which means baobab in Malagasy) that is trying to develop eco-tourism in the area. The reserve is located less than 1km from the Mozambique Channel near the village of Ifaty-Mangily, about 25 km North of Tulear.
One of Madagascar's iconic species, the radiated tortoise is the only large tortoise in southern Madagascar. The strongly contrasting reddish or tan pattern of lines radiating from the centre or base of black scutes is unmistakeable. Additional identifying features are the strongly domed carapace, the yellowish body colour, and the immobile (not hinged) plastron.

Madagascar - Part 5 Ifaty
Ifaty ifs on the South West coast of Madagascar. The nearest large city is Toliara (formerly Tul'ear) whish is less than an hours drive away.
Ifaty is a coastal town in the Bay of Ranobe and adjacent to the third longest barrier reef in the world. We visited the Reserve Reniala which is home to some of Madagascar's oldest Boabab trees.
On the drive to Ifaty, we visited the Zombitse National Park which was a great place to get close to the Verreaux Sifaka. We also saw the Oustalets Chameleon, Standings Day Gecko and the rare Hubbards Sportive Lemur.
