Hello guys:) I congratulate you with Victory Day and I would like to show you my first music film. It is a war film “Summer Day of 1943”. A few words about this film. My son went to a music school and they often had concerts. So the musicians that you will see in this film are music school students and their guitar teacher. They play famous Russian melodies: Гевиксман “Березовые сны” (Gevixman “Birch dreams”) and Новиков “Эх, дороги” (Novikov “Eh, roads”). Thank you for watching. Hope you will like my film. Happy Victory Day! С Днем Победы!

It is the first time that more than 24, 26 museums of Russia are gathering together all the items to try to reconstruct the past of Russian art since the Conversion at the end of the tenth century until to the great movement which changes the rule, the reigning time of Peter the Great.

The re-enactment of Rublev''s works is extremely difficult. The only thing we can say is that there is painting before Rublev, and painting after him. There is something new in the painting after Rublev. There are new dimensions, simultaneous softness and strength, that make Rublev''s role essential, even if the complete re-enactment of his career and his life''s work is extremely hard.
16. Mid of the Virgin of Vladimir, attributed to Andrei Rublev
17. Close of the icon

The essential component is obviously Byzantine art, and everything that comes from this Byzantine civilisation, because Russia was converted (to Christianity) in 988 by Byzantine (monks). The model for the Church, for the clerical organisation, for religious buildings, liturgical instruments, the dogmatic range, all these elements come from the Byzantine Empire.
21. Mid of the Charter of the synod of Constantinople confirming the creation of Moscow''s patriarchy (May, 1590)

29. Tilt up of the Oklad
30. SOUNDBITE (English) Jannic Durand, Exhibition curator, Department of Decorative Arts, The Louvre
It''s not Byzantine art, it''s not Western art, it''s not oriental art, it''s Russian art. This is the ''heartly point (the heart of the matter), I think, of the exhibition
31. Mid of Helmet with the name of Ivan the Terrible (probably Moscow, 1533-1547)

Diveyevo monastery. News broadcast
Text_1_Diveyevo monastery prepares for Easter (TV-report, 2014)
Duration 3:50
A journalist spends a week before Easter in Diveyevo, the largest Russian monastery for women.
Morning prayers last almost 4 hours. Around 11 a.m. sisters leave the church, they’re already smiling and talking: the day can be started.
They have a quick meal and go to their ‘obediences.’ It’s what is called ‘work’ in the world. Each sister has some work, e.g. cleaning up the temple, cooking meals or meeting pilgrims. But on these days 460 of Diveevo sisters have only one main thing - to prepare for Easter.
This smiling young woman is mother Ioasafa. And this is her little culinary factory. In a tiny kitchen, sisters and their helpers turn cakes into beautiful presents. They will decorate almost 500 handmade cakes: for the sisters, for gifts and for sale.
Mother Ioasafa’s preparing to celebrate her 17th Easter at the monastery. She came here right after finishing school. Since childhood, she knew that she’d devote her life to the church. One day she came here with her mum my mother and felt that it was her place.
‘I asked the elder, father Kirill Pavlov. He said that I needed to stay in that place, but before that I had to live at home for some time and get a passport. Of course, I immediately started to experience various temptations. The Enemy prevented my coming to the monastery in every way. He didn’t want me to…,’ - says the nun.
But even in the monastery the path to God isn’t easy. You have to earn the right to become a nun. First you’re a novice candidate, then a novice, then an inokinya, and only after that you can be allowed to take the vows.
‘I want to say hello!’ mother Siluana is joking, causing laughter in the company. She teaches me to properly spread the glaze and wonders how the story with Pussy Riot ended in Moscow.
All this doesn’t seem like narrow-minded ideas about the monastery. But Diveevo sisters have never been isolated from the outside world.
To Diveevo monastery pilgrims travel by buses. Orthodox people believe that this place is an earthly lot of the Virgin.
Between morning and evening services it’s necessary to prepare almost 3,000 eggs for Easter. Onion peels have been collected since winter. It's no joke - 6 bags!
‘We’re a little tired and probably happy as it’s still the end of the Lent.’ At other times, mother Silvana is an auditor, there’s such a job here. Someone has to audit numerous monastic shops. Who better than her can do it, she’s a former accountant. ‘The Lord allows so that a person can easily renounce everything: status in the world, favourite job, family.’
Olga has a diploma of the Swiss Association of florists and a flower shop in Moscow. But several times a year she leaves everything and goes to the Nizhny Novgorod region to decorate Diveevo for the next holiday. About 20 same-minded people came with her, they all arrived from the capital.
‘Nowadays our job bosses understand that it’s not just that you go somewhere to relax, but it's a really necessary thing, and they make advances.’ Olya works in a travel agency as a middle manager, like almost everyone here: without much experience in floral design, but with a great desire to help.
Good Friday is the saddest day of Holy Week. Sisters fast strictly - till the end of Evening prayers it’s forbidden to eat. They pray a lot, and talk only if it’s really necessary. It seems that only the sister-photographer remembers about the world and quickly takes photos.
It’s all difficult to understand, but we got used to it after several days in a monastery. Instead of ‘Hello’ they say ‘bless me,’ instead of ‘Thank you’ they say ‘God save you,’ instead of ‘You’re welcome’ they say ‘To the glory of God.’ In such a place many doors will always be closed for a worldly person.
Celebrated roll has own monument and appears on coat of arms
(4 May 2019) LEADIN:
A ring-shaped speciality Russian bread was so loved by Catherine the Great that she added it to the coat of arms of the city where she first tasted it.
To this day the city of Murom in western Russia celebrates its trademark bun, which has it own monument in the historical city.
Monks from the local monastery are the main specialist bakers crafting these rolls, which are inscribed with the city's name.
STORYLINE:
A bread roll so revered that it has its own monument in Murom, a city in western Russia.
Tourists travel to the area to taste the bread and take selfies with kalach memorabilia.
Kalach bread has been baked in Murom for centuries.
The baking process starts late at night, and bakers use a mould to form each roll into its trademark ring and twisted shape.
Apart from the usual recipe a good dose of love is needed when baking the perfect kalach.
Irina Zapretilova, a baker of the famed rolls, says she puts every effort into her baking.
We make dough with natural materials. We mix dough from flour, sugar, salt, yeast and margarine.
We then knead the dough. And we do it with our whole heart.
Most kalach rolls are crafted from within the walls of the Murom Transfiguration Monastery.
According to a nun in the area the only authentic kalach rolls are those baked by the monks from the monastery.
The proceeds from the sale of Kalach rolls are used for the upkeep of the religious community and buildings.
Kalach is baked in the monastery to maintain this monastery, to build new buildings and teach children and priests.
It is considered the main souvenir of the city and the real kalach is baked only inside the monastery, says nun, Tatyana.
The pretzel like rolls are not usually bought by the locals, as they are too expensive, says kalach vendor, Lyubov Kumanaeva.
It is in demand especially among visiting pilgrims. The local population can not always buy it because it is expensive.
One Kalach rolls costs around 1.20 US Dollars.
Folk ensembles use the traditional bread as part of their performances.
Natalya Monakhova, director of folk performances, says the rolls were so popular with royalty in Russia that it was added to Murom's coat of arms in 1781.
In the eighteenth century Catherine the Great who was visiting the city was greeted with delicious kalach
and she liked this famous bake so much that decided to put it on the coat of arms of the city. In addition Paul I (the Tsar of Russia between 1754-1801), when he visited Murom and tried kalach sent a few of them to St. Petersburg.
Kalach is given to honorary guests as a welcoming gesture and is presented as a parting gift to important people when they leave Murom.
During the summer months when there are many tourists in Murom around a thousand five hundred Kalach rolls are baked each day due popular demand.
