Monsoon Travels in India: Bhopal to Mumbai via Konkan and Goa
If it is monsoons, it must be Konkan! Enjoy a journey from Bhopal to Mumbai via Goa. We start off with the Habibganj Jabalpur Intercity, cross the Vindhyas through the Budhni-Barkhera ghats and go south of the Narmada to Itarsi, where we reverse and head northwards along the Itarsi-Allahabad line. This stretch had just opened for electric traction when the video was made and electric-hauled trains were slowly making their presence felt.
Our journey continues only till Narsinghpur (80 km south of Jabalpur), where after a break of an hour and a half, we start the south-west bound journey towards Goa aboard the Jabalpur Coimbatore Special, hauled by a turquoise Katni WDM3A. We join the Mumbai bound tracks at Itarsi and cut through south-west Madhya Pradesh past Khandwa, where the first rains greet us, and cross the Tapti river to head into Maharashtra at Bhusawal.
Next morning, we wake up to the lush green Konkan, intermittent drizzles and the occasional heavy downpour as the train hugs the Konkan coast and heads southwards. The monsoon timetable is in place so we cut down our speed to 75 kmph post Veer and negotiate through the tunnels and the numerous crossings. We head into Goa in the afternoon and cross the magnificent Mandovi and Zuari rivers to reach Madgaon.
For our return to Mumbai, we take the Mangalore Mumbai Superfast and head back northwards. The next morning sees some heavy rainfall as we exit Konkan Railways at Roha and enter the Navi Mumbai area. We are made to wait almost for an eternity at Diva as fast locals and intercity expresses fly past, ferrying daily commuters from the suburbs to India's financial capital. We finally get some relief after 40 odd minutes, join the fast lines and huff and puff our way to the Victoria Terminus after a rapid show of speed by the Kalyan WDG3A through the Bombay suburban section.

Bhushi Dam + Lion's Point : Famous Rainy Season Picnic Points at Lonavala near Mumbai - Pune
Weekend Special Picnic Spots near Mumbai and Pune : Bhushi Dam and Lion's Point at Lonavala
The Bhushi Dam is a masonry dam on the Indrayani River in Lonavala, Maharashtra, India.
The dam was built in the late 1860s for the Great Indian Peninsular Railway as a source of water for their steam engines. As of 2014 it is owned by the Central Railway zone of the Indian Railways, the successor to the Great Indian Peninsular Railway.
Water was carried from the reservoir to Lonavala, Khandala and the reversing station of the railways by cast-iron pipes. The Railway company later agreed to supply some water to the town of Lonavala as well, because the dam had been built using Municipal funding.
In 2011, the Indian Navy proposed to take over the Bhushi dam and Bhugaon lake for its training activities at the Indian Naval Station Shivaji which is located in the vicinity. The Lonavala Police stated that such a move would restrict the access of the public to the dam.
In 2012, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) proposed to construct a 9 kilometres (5.6 miles) long tunnel along the Mumbai Pune Expressway which would pass right below the Bhushi dam.

Mountain Train Operations ! Roaring Igniting Bankers ! Reversing Directions ! Pantograph Changing !
The description can be read as follows;
1) 10,700Hp KYN WCAM-3# 21956, 21942 Bankers after finishing with Thull Ghats duty head to a siding outside Kasara station for another Uphill Climb. Shortly the Pantograph of Banker will be lowered and Locomotives will be shut down since the ghat crew will have to reverse back and climb in to WCAM3# 21956.
2) The Banker Crew now enter in 21956 and keep your speakers in Full Volume to enjoy powerful starting sounds of 10,700hp beasts. Shortly Pune Bhusawal Express will emerge from beautiful curve outside Kasara with leading Bhusawal WAP-4# 22965. After express train finishes going through crossover points, the bankers slowly start moving and as soon as the express train will come to a halt they will arrive behind them in no time to enable faster coupling and wasting too much time too. Dedication, team work and perfect acceleration/co-ordination of ghat crew is very important to ensure proper punctuality of trains.
Also Many Thanks to Akshay Jangra and Akshay Iyer for planning and making it a fabulous session.
