Iceland Golden Circle Tour with Reykjavik Excursions
I took the Golden Circle tour with Reykjavik Excursions and it was incredible. The sites are unlike anything around. From the volcanoes to the glaciers to the skies above, Iceland is simply breathtaking. The tour included stops at the geysir named Geysir, Gullfoss (Golden Falls) waterfall, and s the historical and geological wonder that is Thingvellir National Park, where the American and Eurasian tectonic plates are pulling apart. It was absolutely incredible
Four Days in Reykjavík, Iceland - A Travel Guide
This is a bit of a first for this channel, it's a travel vlog that is in NO WAY theme park related! Last week Mrs Hakes and I went off to spend four days in Reykjavík, Iceland. It's a wonderful city, and we had an incredible time here. Below is a list of places we went / tour companies we used.
To save messing around with a gimbal and camera for the whole time it was entirely shot on my Samsung Galaxy Note 9.
Everything went extremely smoothly, from the flights to the transfers and the tours - it was perfect! I'll write up a full post about it all in due course, but for now - here's the vlog.

Langjökull Glacier Ice Cave tour from Reykjavik - Reykjavik Excursions
Langjökull Glacier Ice Cave Excursion. Iceland. We took a NATO converted missile launcher up the glacier and went into this man made ice cave 30 m below the surface and we saw an ice crevice from the bottom! The tunnels are lit by LEDS. It was wet and damp though and the ceiling was dripping. They gave you a clap-on sole with chains for your boots because the floor is slippery ice.

-- Reykjavik and Golden Circle tour
Arrived at KEF at 6:30 - wandered around, picked up luggage, got onto the Flybus for Reykjavik (you could either buy tickets at the desk in the terminal or on the bus - the lady had a hand-held credit card gizmo with her) and landed in town around 7:30am. We all trekked into the bus terminal with our luggage and unpacked our winter coats from the top of our biggest bag -- it was COLD -- 32°! From there, we transferred to a minibus, at no extra charge, to take us to the hotel, FossHotel Baron, and we were too early for our room. Front desk guy showed us and another family where to store luggage and we grabbed one small backpack and we were ready to head off for a tour. A Reykjavik Excursions minibus was waiting for others, so we joined it, making several more stops, and were back at the bus station with only enough time to buy tickets, take a quick trip through the café for snacks 'to go' and join the Golden Circle Tour. There were two buses and both looked to be pretty full. This I had not pre-booked, but I would think about booking ahead if we were to go again. I would have been so bummed if we couldn't go because the bus was full! Our bus-mates were a mixed group -- mostly older folks, but with a few 20-somethings and our boys were the only kids in the bunch. We'd decided to take a tour today, Sunday, because the boards reported that Reykjavik is slow to wake up on Sundays, and this was also the last day of the AirWaves music festival. From several reports I'd read, AirWaves was not the place for my 7yo and 10yo!! We had the English and French Golden Circle Tour. I'm not sure if there would have been more information given if the tour guide had only had to narrate in one language. Our first stop was at the Garden of Eden, a 'tourist greenhouse' with a café and souvenir shop. And restrooms, for those of us who had 'hit the ground running' as we got off the plane! They had lots of coffee, but no to-go cups, so I'd have to wait ... I also discovered that, although DH was prepared by having batteries in all of the pockets of the backpacks, we only had one set spare now that most of the luggage was back at the hotel. Rats! I had to buy AA batteries for my camera. I don't know how much they cost. I don't care. If the other choice would be that I couldn't take photos for the rest of the day ... But that is one good thing about having a camera which uses regular AA batteries. So it could always be worse. :-/ Our next stop was a volcanic crater. We were given time to get out and walk around. My boys saw others walk all the way around and climb the higher side of the crater edge, so they had to do that too. I would have been happier if there had been a guard rail! We drove past the Geysir area and our guide said we'd be stopping here later. She pointed out one of the glaciers in the distance. Since the temperature was just above freezing, the walkways at Gullfoss had a thin ice layer. Our guide told us to be careful and recommended against taking the path all the way to the edge of the falls, as it was so icy. We were dropped off at one spot, and had to walk down to see the waterfall, then to a different parking area to get back in the bus. Everything was 'glazed' by the mist freezing. We saw several people slip and fall. (This is not a tour if you are not able to walk around comfortably. You'd miss a lot if you had limited mobility, it seems to me.) Still no coffee for me here -- the servers were in some kind of discussion with one group -- looked to be a disagreement about their soup. I didn't wait, so I'll get coffee later. We had a 2-hour stop at Geysir. Our guide handed out brochures, which had a 10% off coupon included. There were 2 choices for food -- Hotel Geysir or the gift shop/cafeteria next door. We checked on both and liked the looks of the buffet at the hotel. We had a *great* lunch at the Hotel Geysir. There were 3 different kinds of salmon, 2 kinds of cod(?), veggies, and a variety of indulgent desserts. I'm not a big seafood fan, but I do like salmon once in a while. It was great. This was our one 'splurge' meal in Iceland! I got a pot of coffee, so I was good to go for the rest of the day! :-) Strokkur was the 'Old Faithful' of the geysers here, it spouted every 7 minutes or so. We were warned that the hot water in the thermal pools was HOT! The area was pretty much like parts of Yellowstone, with an 'other- worldly' look to it.

Reykjavik, Iceland's golden circle excursion 2010
Tour during Costa Luminosa's visit to Reykjavik in August 2010. Visits to Thingvellir National Park by Unesco declared as world heritage - Gullfoss waterfall, geysirs, and magnificent views of Reykjavik itself. And now for something completely different: in Reykjavik lived a worldfamous medium Indridi Indridason (1883-1912) He was investigated by resposible Icelandic citizens. In his seances voices were manifesting in space, amongst others that of Edward Grieg (From Journal of the SPR July 2012)

Iceland Travel: The Best Of Reykjavík
First, let's get a few things out on the table. Yes, Reykjavik is in Iceland, which is, in fact, an icy island about half the year. And, yes, Iceland was the culprit in 2010's volcanic eruption fiasco. But, what you might not know is that in the cold, long winter, Icelanders warm up in this capital's geothermal spas; and away from the city lights, they can drink in the beauty of the aurora borealis. In the summer, the weather is divine and the days are long – some days see 20 hours of sunlight. And volcanoes, like the notorious Eyjafjallajökull, are just one part of Iceland's dramatic and ethereal landscape. There are also gushing waterfalls, awe-inspiring geysers, expansive glaciers and wide-open spaces filled with Icelandic horses and sheep. Plus, Reykjavik boasts a raging nightlife scene and a surprisingly good handful of museums and local shops.
The best time to visit Reykjavik is from June to August. Not only can you enjoy the balmy temps (for Iceland, at least), but you'll also experience long days (think: up to 21 hours of sunlight ... a phenomenon dubbed midnight sun). If you're looking to save some Icelandic króna, you'll be able to do so in the winter; but those who wrestle with seasonal affective disorder might reconsider: the sun only peeks out for four or five hours between December and February.
Avoid eating at restaurants for every meal Sitting down for multiple meals daily can quickly add up. To keep your food costs low, grab a pylsur (or hot dog) from one of downtown's carts or buy grab-and-go pastries, sandwiches and snacks from a local grocery store.
Choose your spa experience wisely Blue Lagoon offers an amazing experience, but a much more cost-effective alternative is to soak in one of Reykjavik's local geothermal pools or hot pots.
Purchase a Reykjavík City Card Each Reykjavík City Card costs 1,500 to 3,300 Icelandic króna (or $14.50 to $32) and includes 24, 48 or 72 hours of complimentary access to the National Museum of Iceland and city museums like The Settlement Exhibition and the Árbaer Open Air Museum, plus unlimited rides on the city's Straetó buses.
The best ways to get around Reykjavik are by foot, car and tour bus. Although rates are often higher for organized tours, traveling by tour bus comes without the headaches of driving on unfamiliar and sometimes icy roads. If you'd rather keep your travel expenses low and roam freely without sticking to a set schedule, car hires are likely your best option. Neither, however, is suggested for exploring central Reykjavik, which is small and walkable. Taxis and public transportation are available as well but are generally more expensive. To travel between the city center and Keflavik International Airport (KEF), consider using a local tour bus operator like Gray Line Iceland and Reykjavik Excursions.
