Leaving Reykjanes, the road turns east towards the cliffs at Staðarberg. As it passes one of the region¹s many salmon farms, a narrow path forks off to the right towards the shore and Brimketill, a strange formation of rock and sea well worth a visit.

Reynisfjara beach Reynisdrangar rocks Gardar column and city Vik Iceland drone
Covered black sand Reynisfjara beach is without a doubt one of the most impressive parts of the coast of Iceland.
In 1991, the American magazine Islands Magazine put it on the list of the ten most beautiful beaches in the world. Its uniqueness is among picturesque cliffs and amazing basalt rock formations.
Among them they deserve special attention columns Gardar and in the water rocks Reynisdrangar - some see in them the clutches of the witch, dragon's back or castle towers.
Deserves special attention columns Garda confusingly similar to the great organ, and in the water rocks Reynisdrangar - some see in them the clutches of the witch, dragon's back or castle towers
Rocks Reynisdrangar constitute a good navigation for sailors. Is associated with them a legend: apparently these formations were created with three trolls who earnestly tried to attract masted ship to shore, but with the sunrise been turned into rock. Noteworthy is also a small basalt cave Halsanefshellir.
In the immediate vicinity of the beach is a very interesting place - plateau Dyrholaey. It is located on the reserve of birds, among which you can sometimes meet puffin. In the breeding season of birds, ie from May to the end of June, you can not enter the territory of protected nature reserve. At the top of the plateau is a lighthouse. It stretches away view of the spectacular natural rock arch Toin which stems directly from the ocean.
Near the beach you can find town Vik I Myrdal (isl. Bay swamp valleys), but more often is used only the first part of the name : Vik. This is where the highest recorded rainfall in Iceland (227 mm / year).
Take the black beach Vikurffjara which offers an amazing view of the frozen sea trolls.
The attractions of the town is Brydebud - historical house, which was built on the islands of Vestmannaeyjar in 1831. And then transferred to Vik in 1895 rokku. Today its the tourist information, café and a small Museum of Nature. The area should climb to the top Reynisfjall (349 m asl), from which there is a splendid view of the beach Reynisfjara.
